I took a few days off and I decided it would be a Book Shopping Vacation. I accumulated these from indie bookstores, the Women‘s Hall of Fame gift shop, and the Women‘s Rights Historic National Park gift shop. The Sotomayor and Colvin books are author signed. A good vacation haul. #bookhaul
pickI admire Sotomayor's memoir. Such humble beginnings, yet her perseverance is astounding. She said if she could bottle up whatever she had to every kid so they wouldn't fall to the pitfalls of poverty, she would. Diabetes, alcoholic father, extreme poverty, but she overcame it all. So inspiring!!!

pickI really enjoyed hearing about Sotomayor's journey from the Bronx to the Supreme Court. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐The audio was also great.
pick⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor has never been intimidated by challenges. She‘s a badass. This is her life story up until her appointment to the Federal District Court. I like that she stopped there, and hope that one day she, or a biographer, will tell the rest. I had the immense pleasure of meeting her last fall at the Southern Festival of Books. She‘s gracious, warm and funny. PS. The picture book is wonderful for young readers.
I *really* didn‘t want to workout today. Saturday, we leave for the beach and I‘ve been busy shopping/packing and l‘m already in vacation mode. 🌊⛱🍹 But ... exercising will be challenging next week, so I headed to the gym. Thanks to #BFCR2 and #TeamFlow, I found some motivation!

pickSonia Sotomayor is a remarkable woman and role model: brilliant, determined, ambitious, with a high sense of morality, integrity, wanting to help improve people‘s lives and do them justice.
Her story is amazing. My favorite parts were when she talks with passion about her Puerto Rican roots, growing up poor in the Bronx, the love for her family, especially her beloved abuelita (grandmother). The law practice years flagged a bit. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
pick⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️5/5 I was not expecting to enjoy this as much as I did! I knew nothing about Justice Sotomayor before this, but after learning her story I'm glad this was my book club pick! She is very relatable, down to earth, and truly inspiring. A wonderful memoir!

OK it is official! The Southern Festival of Books in Nashville, TN starts Friday and they are setting up the vendor tents in War Memorial Plaza- this is the view from my office. Sotomayor is speaking on Saturday- always a great time!
pickI‘m in awe of the sheer dedication & amount of work she put in at Princeton, Yale & beyond. She‘s so deserving. She was/is such a strong Latina, & took no BS from men who disliked her for being an outspoken woman. 💪🏻🇵🇷
I asked my Puerto Rican grandma if she‘d read it- she pulled out this edition & told me how much she enjoyed it. For someone of her generation I can only imagine how impactful Sonia‘s appointment to SCOTUS must have been.

pickJustice Sotomayor takes us thru her childhood upbringing trials successes and failures in this short memoir. It stops detailing just before her judgeship starts - a disappointment as it‘s a reason I picked it up to begin with. Her story prior to that, growing up in the Bronx projects then making it to Princeton and then Yale is quite the amazing story and is very inspiring. Neatly written in her own voice - I‘ll easily give it 4/5
I really enjoyed this on #overdrive. The story of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and her journey to achieving her lifelong dream of becoming a judge. As a history/government/politics nerd, this kept my interest all the way through. I'd recommend it!
Listening to Rita Moreno read this story, and trying to manage my #overdrive holds with Lola's help. She isn't as helpful as she thinks. 😼 #CatsofLitsy

pickThis was a very inspiring read. Sonia Sotomayor came across as confident, but also humble woman who values hard work and her family. The whole book is a big case of "nurture vs nature" and for humanity, for asking for help and for not being perfect.
She also shed some light on the special hurdles of being a female lawyer starting in the 80s. And that even Supreme Court Justices have struggled with Imposter Syndrome at one point in their careers.
This book is a good reminder that Trail Blazers didn't start trail blazing when they first stepped into the public light, but mostly have been at it for a while.
pickInspiring! A great reminder of other people's challenges and a window into how they can be conquered.

At the beginning, I thought this would be just another "pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps" story of American exceptionalism, but I'm about halfway through now and it's taken a turn. I'm into the college years, and she makes a lot of good points about the way college works that are as applicable now as they were in the 1970s.
