This book is horrifying… in a good way! I am honest to god spooked by this book. The situation is dire and the details are spookily specific… definitely not for anyone who gets scared too easily.

Catching up on reviews from last week.
Finished this one last Sunday. It was luckily not as spooky as I thought it was going to be. Not so much creepy house stuff, as stuff happening on the property. Overall, I liked it and glad to finally have read it.

This one is on my #Scarathlon “B” list so I doubt I‘ll get to it this month but it fits today‘s #Haunt prompt well.
+6 points for Team #SpookyGhostClub 👻🖤👻
This had a slow start, and then the creepiness really set in!
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would.
Addy inherits a large house in a small town, and it couldn‘t have come at a more perfect time. But her Aunt has left notes carved around the house. “No mirrors” “Is it Friday? Light the candle” “Your family are still dead”. There are stories about the house being haunted, but surely that isn‘t true?

Started my #MagicalMonsters #BuddyRead this afternoon.
Read a total of 1 hr 41 for #ReadySetRead which isn‘t quite as much as I had hoped! But at least it pushed me to make a start on some spooky #Scarathlon reads! 👻
Picture is from my walk at #Cragside in Northumberland. It was a beautiful day for it.
Trying a #BookTok recommendation for the first time. I like to read a Halloween selection this time of year and saw this featured on a number of TikTok videos.
This was a good ghost story!
The description of the sunset phenomenon and how the main character felt was really well done. It creeped me right out.

"This is a house that hasn't seen a new soul in half a century. The walls are saturated with her; the floorboards are worn down from her feet; the very air continues to carry her presence after her death."

Book 56📚 4.5⭐️
Oooooo I finally got my hands on a DC book!! (Thanks to the Toronto Library!)
What a fantastic introduction to this author! It was all I could have hoped for and I can‘t wait to read more!
A CLASSIC haunted house 🏚️ a story for the ages!😂
Congratulations @wanderinglynn !!!🎉🎉
So generous to us Littens!🥲💕
I like spooky books! It‘s hard for me to find any Darcy Coate or T Kingfisher books locally so maybe The Hollow Places or the tagged!😝💕
This is my second Darcy Coates book, and it was just as good as Craven Manor. Adrielle inherits a home from her grandmother, and at first it‘s better than not having anywhere to live, but things will change if she doesn‘t follow instructions. As it turns out, she is not alone, and the inhabitants are tormented by a tragedy that Adrielle is missing parts of its story, so there are unanswered questions about their history that carries a burden.
Fall vibes ??
A lot has happened in our lives since July, but I know
one thing for sure..." I'm so glad I live in a world where
there are Octobers." LM Montgomery said it right.
So glad to be back ?
While it may not be the best haunted house story I've ever read, it was a fun, quick book. I was a little disappointed in the ending, but enjoyed the rest of the book enough that its still a pick.

#scarathlondailyprompts 10/7 - This heroine was determined not to be a VICTIM
I'd love another cup of coffee, but it looks like I'm staying put for awhile... #scarathlon #teammonstermash
One of the main reasons I'm able to read as much as I do is that my husband works evenings, so I've got the house to myself after the kids go to bed each night. But I also seem to have the house to myself on his nights off, since he can't lay down to read stories to the kids without falling asleep himself... 🤣
Anyways, I'm making good progress on what seems to be a pretty straightforward haunted house story! #scarathlon #teammonstermash
Oh my freaking God!!!! I loved this!!!! It was soooo creepy! I read other reviews of it not being creepy or scary and I was like, did we read the same book!? Because I was so creeeped out, I didn't see any of that coming! 5/5!!
Loved this story. I‘m a sucker for a good ghost story but this is my first by Darcy Coates. I‘ve already gotten others lined up because of how much I enjoyed this one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ohh. My. Word! I am absolutely floored by everything! I followed your directions and opened everything in order and kept getting more overwhelmed!!!🧡🖤🧡 I‘ve already eaten some caramels, love the detail of the rat on the books, and was positively speechless when I opened the Poe bust! He‘s perfect 😍 💀 Not to mention all the wonderful reading and coloring I‘m looking forward too! Thank you so much!!! @aperfectmjk #HHS21 and host @wanderinglynn
I consider this novel a slow burn of suspense. I didn't find it scary but definitely interesting. 3 💫💫💫 It's predictable, the main character inherits a house from a long lost relative and it comes with surprises. #BookSpinBingo #20in4 @TheAromaofBooks @Andrew65
Oh man I LOVED this book! It was everything I wanted from a spooky book. Mystery, likeable characters, intrigued. Just enough spookiness that I was gripped but not terrified. I will definitely read more from this author! #horror #mystery #thriller #atmospheric
A classic ghost story...skittering undead are keeping me creeped out tonight! 👀
Book 30 of 2021! I am NOT a fan of scary/horror novels, but I love Darcy Coates! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
*OUABC Halloween 2020 Scary Pick*
This was a highly anticipated read for me. It reminded me of Danielle Vega‘s writing; I felt the spookiness from the first page. This played out like a movie for me. I‘m looking forward to reading more of Darcy‘s books in the future, especially around fall/Halloween time

The Haunting of Ashburn House by Darcy Coates
I LOVE haunted house stories! But sometimes they have have more swearing than I can handle. So I loved that this one was thoroughly creepy while still being a pleasant read. I‘ll definitely be reading more from this author.
I forgot to do this one too!
This book was not what I expected and I loved it. The main character and set up is similar to that of Blackwood Manor; A girl gets a cool scary house and is isolated. After that, it's a different story. Coates again manages to take away your safety nets and make this a truly scary story.
Tis a good night for a ghost story. Hoping this snow storm doesn't miss us!
Nov #BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks Book was in my tbr so I'm glad I read it. It was from ok to so-so. Adrianne will inherit this house where some strange things happened since she arrived. Why are these things happening? What is her relation with Edith? Is Adrianne in danger? There are spooky, creepy and gross scenes which I liked but there are parts that reminded me "Thriller" from Michael Jackson which don't scare me, I laughed instead. 3.4⭐️
I think this is my favourite of Coates haunted house books so far. I will definitely keep checking them out.
I had such high hopes of reading a ton of this tonight but instead I got a pretty brutal migraine. I feel like it‘s finally starting to pass so I‘ll try to get a little bit of this one in.
Happy Halloween! I hope you guys have had a great month. It‘s time to do a monthly wrap up. It‘s been a productive month. I decided to blog everyday and I actually survived, so I count that as a win! Anyhow check out my wrap up at readinginthewildwood .com

I wanted to read something scary for Halloween. I have read a lot of spooky books, but nothing actually scary. So on our way in from vacation I stopped and grabbed The Haunting of Ashburn House. It was everything that I wanted The Haunting of Hill House to be.

I save spooky #audiobooks to listen to this time of the year- and while this one is a fast and engaging listen, it just wasn‘t as spooky as I had hoped. Adrienne unexpectedly inherits the creepy house in a small town- & it isn‘t long before she‘s seeing messages carved into the walls and eerie happenings in the surrounding woods. Wolfgang the cat is the hungry hero here, & there are a few unexpected turns to the plot. #AudioColoring

Love the gifts with this. I did like the book and it did give me some creepy moments. The keys and creepy picture will make fantastic Halloween decor. And I love the copy of Dracul for the last gift-I wasn‘t expecting that and I‘ve been wanting to read it. But now I need something a bit lighter.
Someone wants attention this morning. . . But this book is giving me anxiety so I'll take the cuddle break.....

So excited to start the spooky Halloween box from Once Upon a Book Club!
Book 152 of 2020. #bookly #onceuponabookclub
Low census today so it‘s nice and uneventful today. Since I finished my book group book last night, I‘m taking a snack break and reading this creepy pleasure. #scarathlon #TeamSlaughter
I got my Halloween Once Upon A Book Club spooky box today! I feel like it is Christmas every month upon arrival! I will be stopping my current read and diving into this after dinner.
