What‘s mere fiction in front of the National Thriller which was the Indian elections results day?
I did not enjoy this book at all :(

Yesterday‘s scores from the book swap after getting the go ahead to go back on pointe shoes from the physiotherapist. I had the day off work so I spent time organising my new place and snuck in a quick dip at the beach at the end of the day plus a few glasses of champagne and watched a great episode of Gardening Australia.
The most profound statement yet made about Auschwitz was not a statement at all, but a response.
The query: "At Auschwitz, tell me, where was God?"
And the answer: "Where was man?
I suddenly encountered the face of loneliness, and decided that it was a merciless and ugly face indeed.
A very big happy birthday to the preternaturally talented Meryl Streep -- seen here as Sophie Zawistowski in the spectacular adaptation of William Styron‘s masterpiece, SOPHIE'S CHOICE.
The most classic and devastating #wholiveswhodies scenario of them all 🖤

I‘ve had woefully little time to read lately and have been on my feet (at Disney!) all week. So these are my plans today. Moving only to get another book or food lol #catsoflitsy #sheldon
Disappointed in how this has gone so far. I think reading this book during #24in48 was just a little too heavy. Rethinking my #reversereadathon stack for next weekend.
Look what I found in my 50 cent library book sale copy of this book! I‘ve had it for years and was finally getting around to reading it...
Bevy of riches and terrible choices to have to make! This is just a small sample of what today‘s schedule looks like... 😩😂 #bayareabookfestival
This book is as depressing as the movie if not more so. Whew. Here‘s where my #litsyatoz challenge for 2018 stands.

3-6-18: 10th finished book of 2018! It took me a whole month but the subject matter was. Or what I expected and then it became heart wrenching at times so I needed breaks. And now, against my better judgement, I'll be watching the movie version starring Meryl Streep. She won the Oscar for her portrayal of Sophie. 📖#️⃣1️⃣0️⃣
“Mercifully, I was at that age when reading was still a passion and thus, save for a happy marriage, the best state possible in which to keep absolute loneliness at bay.”
Starting another cheerful book into Oscar winning film - Sophie‘s Choice. #litsyatoz #modernlibrarytop100

I bailed!! Another DNF for me this year! 😩 I couldn‘t finish it. I struggled with Stingo‘s overly horny perspective and again, a detached feeling from characters. 😭
Going to refocus on finishing the #LitsyReadingChallenge with Sophie‘s Choice #RoryGilmore Square. 😊

This is the book club choice for the second club I attend. Not the most sunshiney of reads on this glorious afternoon... plus I have 500 pages to read before Wednesday #sunshine #afternoonreads #bookclub

My #birthdaybook is Sophie's Choice, the most popular book of 1979. I've never read it. One more for the #TBR!

In my conflicted state trying to review this last night I forgot to tag it as my #letterS for #LitsyAtoZ. @BookishMarginalia
I know this will seem like sacrilege to many, but I am torn between a pick and so-so. I wanted more of Sophie and less of Stingo's adolescent whining. And Styron's prose was overwrought. And I say that as a staunch fan of Dickens and Hardy. I had to take many breaks from this to be able to finish it.
Meg Medina lives in Richmond, Virginia which is about an hour away from me. Poe also lived in Richmond for a while. I've visited the museum dedicated to him there. He also attended the University of Virginia before he was kicked out. William Styron was born in Newport News, VA where I go to school. #localauthor #aprilbookshowers
Jumping into this for #LitsyAtoZ #letterS and I see and hear Meryl Streep every time Sophie speaks.
I have a list of 100 classics that I call my book bucket list. It may take me until my dying day to finish it but after this I will only have 88 more to go.
Seriously, this #seasonsreadings2016 is like Sophie's Choice. How can I choose between all of you wonderful Littens? Special 💕 to these! #favelittens
"The truth, the truth! Who even knows what is the truth?" My favorite line from one of my favorite books. I've read only one other Styron (Lie Down in Darkness) but this one must be his best. If you've only seen the movie, you're missing so much of the story.
When you're in the middle of a really good book and the one you were waiting for arrives by mail..
What would you do?
#bannedbooks. This is a powerful book about a terrible choice a mother had to make. This book is gut wrenching and #couldnotputdown. The movie was good but the book is great.
To celebrate banned book week this will be my choice. #bannedbookweek
A few of my favorite #bannedbooks (images from Google, because I apparently no longer have my copies of most of these 😢). #somethingforsept #septphotochallenge
Here are just a few books that #mademecry. And I mean #uglycry. #SomethingforSept
This was a great book. Writing about the horrors of WWII can be challenging, but Styron's cast of characters is interesting. Also a post-modern sensibility in how he references his past works in his own narrative (just got done reading 4 Styron novels in a row). Heartbreaking and worth the time.
