Mild pick for me; I loved the writing and characters, but the ending made me so mad! I don‘t think I‘ll continue the series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I found myself another dystopian series I love! I really liked this one! I liked the superpowers, world, characters, etc.. The ending tore my heart to pieces. I can probably guess where it all will end up, but I don't care because it was a lot of fun! The only criticism I have is that the main character was soooo whiny in the beginning and was very annoying. 4.5/5
I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it (some I‘ve had so long I don‘t even remember why!) Feel free to join in!

It took me so long to do this letter cause I cant think of an author for it🤷🏻🤦🏻
I can‘t give much of a reason for why this book wasn‘t for me. I guess it just wasn‘t 🤷♀️ I really loved the beginning, but somewhere along the way, I lost the desire to keep reading. The main reason was probably that I didn‘t like Ruby at all. But I can totally understand why loads of people loved it 👍

Even though the movie was totally horrible, I absolutely loved this book/series. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
Unexpected book haul today! Went to what I thought was just a drive through backpack giveaway by our school district, and also drove away with four boxes of dry food goods, a couple covid tests, sanitizer wipes, one N95 mask, some toothbrushes, and these 4 YA novels. The teenager snatched up the tagged title immediately. I hope to read it when he's done. Hasn't been the greatest week, but unexpected free books were a nice surprise.
I wasn‘t immediately hooked on this series. I spent much of the book wondering if I would want to even read Book 2. The ending hooked me. Now I need to see what‘s going to happen.
I nearly gave up on this book after the first chapters. It‘s not very well written and there were so many obvious errors not picked up by an editor. I found it frustrating. But I persisted and ended up enjoying it. Good storyline with a few plot holes. Not sure if I‘ll keep reading the series.

When you are taken away from your family, when your taken to a camp because you and all the children of the world develops powers. What would you do? Follow Ruby through a journey to find what she is capable of, and the other kids she meets along the way.
1. I feel like any imaginary setting is my favorite. I like to imagine the picture the writer is trying to paint. So for example I really like the Darkest Minds series because I can imagine how the writer is trying to portray the places. I can make these words into a small film of sorts.
2. No not really, but I can relate more if the main character is a female.

"The darkest minds tend to hide behind the most unlikely faces." This line is the truest thing I have ever read. The Darkest Minds series is pretty good in general, but I'm only going to say what I think of the first installment. It was good. Like REALLY good. The author did a pretty good job in drawing the world and the incidents in these novels. But you need some patience because you will not understand what is happening at the beginning.
I've been putting off reading this book for a long time for fear that it wouldn't live up to my hopes for it, but my word did it exceed them.
I dont know how to describe this book without going on a rambling, spoiler filled tirade (as my excitement destroys my filter) and I dont think anyone likes those... so instead I'll keep it simple: read it, if you are anything like me you will not regret it!
I don't even remember buying this as an audio book - especially when I have it in print as well! - but so far it's an excellent read! I'm pretty glad I have it in the 2 formats because I got to listen to a fair bit of it on my walk today, and I'll be able to read a fair bit of it at work tomorrow (hopefully) 😁
#bookspin book finally finished! I kept picking this book up, reading some, then putting it back down. I resolved to finish it today.
And I completely wasted my time.
Poor world-building & plot issues. Let‘s just say this suffers from a similar kind of plot issue Indian Jones-Raiders suffers from. If you want, read my GR review (warning, my review contains spoilers & is marked as such). https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2503575154
This was an intense read & I enjoyed it very much! Looking forward to catching up on the series.
A short summary:Some teens develop supernatural powers, the government declares them a threat to society and captures all with these abilities. The story follows Ruby a young girl with very powerful abilities when she escapes from her camp and finds a group of runaways like her that soon will have to rise up against the government.
if you like books that are action packed I recommend

This was such a good read. I would recommend this to anyone who is into a dystopian world setting. The Darkest Minds is a gripping, fast paced novel that will have your heart aching for more.
July wrap up!
I read 9 books this month and I loved all of them except the last one in the picture lol.
I am reading the Harry Potter books though a little out of order since we read 6&7 in January. 🤣
Also sorry I've been MIA a lot lately. I've just been really overwhelmed physically, mentally and emotionally.
94/200 books for 2020
SO much more than your typical YA dystopia. I cried for a side character two paragraphs after they were introduced. Bracken‘s writing is equal parts vivid, gripping, and fun. I loved it.
4*
This was a good beginning to the series. This is book one and it sets the story well. It's quite a slow burn at times but does build steadily. The ending was interesting and has left me wanting to read more. A good start.
Well looks like I'll easily hit my goal of 12 hours for #24B4monday read more than I thought yesterday. Have finished two books so far both really good reads.

Very good. The ending surprised me. I did not see that coming. Promising start to the series.
“i feel like i'm losing my damn mind, like your face has been carved into my heart, and i don't remember when, and i don't understand why, but the scar is there, and i can't get it to heal. it won't go. i can't make it fade. and you won't even look at me.“
My 12 year old son read this book and suggested I read it too, so we could talk about it together. I wasn‘t expecting to enjoy it, but I really did. I found the characters interesting and found myself willing them to survive and for Ruby to learn how to use her powers safely.
A great YA dystopian novel that kept me guessing the whole time. Love the premise and the characters! On to the next in the series! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It took me a while to get invested in this story, but by the halfway point, I was there. Somewhat predictable, and I found the world building to be slow and weak. I'm unsure whether I will continue the series. I'll give it some time to see if the book stays with me enough to make me want more.

Had an amazing day at #ALA today with @NAM99 . We ran into #alexbracken and walked the floor. I picked up a whole lot of books. Including one cookbook, 17 graphic novels, and 25 books (including the newest ruta sepyas)
Filled with emotions and thoughts that will touch your soul. A book that allows not only teenagers, but as well as different age groups to gain control in a divided society.
Recommended 👍
The fun stuff!!!!! You can never have too many magnetic bookmarks and I love the unicorns. Plus the dragon. These are especially lovely since the puppy has been on a book mark chewing frenzy.
There is a lovely smelling apple candle and and open book open magic pin. Plus the awesome canvas bad. It has short and long handles. This will be in heavy use.
Question? Is the bag graphic disposed to represent the Night court? 👇🏻
Just finished #thedarkestminds💕💕 and it leaves my heart with a thud. I love it so much❤, the world where children are powerful💪, the feels while I'm reading this is different😅. Can't wait to read the 2nd book #neverfade.
And now I realize that there are things that happened in the book (and characters too)but never in the movie😩😓😿😿.

Excited to begin this one, I‘ve heard great things about this series! This will be book number 15 of my year
Usually I feel like there are too many dystopia novels where a teenage girl saves the day and there‘s love involved, but I still liked this book. Honestly, who cares if there‘s a couple of stories like these? Let girls read these books and feel they have the power to change the world. The plot was enticing, the emotions involved were human and complicated, the romantic moments were sweet, and the ending made me put the sequel on my to-read list.
Starting a new journey! I haven‘t seen the movie so I‘m not sure what lies in store. There‘s a preface in this edition from the movie director, and a quote stuck out to me: “Kids are tough. They are powerful. And pretty soon, they‘re going to fix the world.”
1) The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken, Kalahari by Jessica Khoury, and The Devil in the White City by Eric Larson
2) I love coffee with creamer, but I also love chai tea lattes from Starbucks!
