Absolutely beautiful in its character development. I wish it had been longer. This has been the summer of Ann Patchett for me. I‘m so glad I finally got on board!

This is my 7th Patchett, and I have loved all but one of them (State of Wonder). This one read a bit like an Anne Tyler, another favourite author.
An accident is the catalyst for a story of grief, love and separated family. The novel takes place over 24 hours, with Ann embodying each character at different times to develop the story. Bravo 👏😭❤️
Mini book haul. Untethered is my book club read for this month & I‘ve had Run on my wishlist for years. 🙏
My first Ann Patchett! I absolutely loved this and wished it was longer. As others have said, this is a character driven novel - it‘s like you‘re dropped in to a 24 hour period to spend time with a family while they go through a life changing event. You get to know each of them, their worries, their frustrations, their love for each other - but you don‘t get to unpack all the whys and how‘s of how they got to where they are. ⬇️
I thought I knew all her books but I'd never heard of this one. It was wonderful and moving and I loved it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Ann Patchett's novels are character driven and this one had so many well-developed ones, I'm not even sure who the protagonist was. Behind many of the lives of the characters are secrets that not only made for some plot twists, it makes one wonder if we truly do know even the closest people in our lives.
I‘m always a little bummed when a friend recommends a book, I read it & am disappointed. The good news is in most cases, we still have good discussions. All of which is to say, a friend recommended this book & I didn‘t love it. The story never really seemed to get going & I just didn‘t connect with it. That being said, Patchett‘s writing is, as always, fantastic. So, the story gets a “So-so” for the great writing.
At the end of June I have finished 40 out of 80 books, so I‘m right on pace for that goal. Over the next few days I‘ll ponder where I am on the more specific goals.
Meanwhile, book 40 was Run, and I enjoyed it. I was feeling generous and gave it 4 stars for the writing and the story. A couple of the characters I wanted to slap.

Unique plot, family connections, and rich characters kept me engaged! Some (superfluous?) plot details were unresolved thereby creating an abrupt ending. Still a great read

This is a beautiful story with subtle take on politics, religion, race, and class. It examines family dynamics, love, and what ties them together. I like how Patchett writes each of the character‘s perspectives, how the backstory, secrets, and twists unfolds. Heartwarming.

#BookReport Another good reading week. Bruno was my #JuneBookSpin 3 1/2🌟. Run was my #DoubleSpin as well as #AuthorAMonth 4🌟 I didn‘t enjoy the weird music transitions in the audio production of Run. Looking forward to the #HolidayEscape Orkney discussion 4🌟. I‘m loving Under the Udala Trees on audio and not really connected yet to Queen or Opal but not ready to give up yet. Will be glad to finish Emma.
Well this months #authoramonth started brilliantly!
I loved this, some sad bits, some very perceptive observations on poverty, race and privilege, but also some heart warming insights to family (or not) relationships. I really liked all these characters and that‘s very rare.
Nobody knew if he was looking to see if there wasn‘t somebody else coming to take him away or if he was trying to find the person who‘d left him behind.

This one was my favourite read of 2020. I loved the family dynamics and the subtle social critique.
Family, politics, responsibilities, loyalties & secrets are all in play in this impactful story unfolding over 24 hours. I found it brilliant! Really insightful. Audio narration was very good after my initial uncertainty. Book 4 completed #FeastMode Thanks again @CarolynM for sharing your review and putting this book on my radar 💜
Loving this one/ audio has me gripped
Thanks for putting this book on my radar @CarolynM
Just started this audio 🎧I‘m already hooked @CarolynM not crazy about the narration but it‘s the STRONG story that has me completely drawn in #FeastMode
So I already nixed my first download {too complicated ~ Cold Millions} Maybe I‘ll have better luck with some of these.... @Megabooks recommended top two, which I‘m sure will be perfect 🤞🏼🤞🏼If anyone else has some “light” audiobook suggestions feel free to leave titles below 😻Thanks
Not my favorite but still satisfying. Seemed to end really abruptly though.
I think Ann Patchett is at her best when she is writing about families. She is so good at the nuances of the love and the tension between parents and children and between siblings. This is a beautiful book, easily one of the best I've read this year. I really loved it. #Bookspin
This was sitting on my TBR shelf so decided to give it a go. I‘m finding that watching thriller crime shows and reading similar books gets me confused . So have decided not to do . So this book- which was a delightful read about a group of people and their connections . Published in 2007 . #2020joybooks

I'm in an Ann Patchett mood these days....🤓 #amreading
...so she decided to read instead. 🤓💗 #truth #tea #amreading
I'm going on holiday next week. I won't be taking all of these, but this is the #Bookstack I'll be choosing from.

Waiting for my takeout order and stopped for a Starbucks. Halfway through and it's got me very interested!
This has been on my TBR list for awhile. After all, when you are constantly training for the next race, you should read a book called Run... right?
Patchett is one of my favorite authors and I will eventually read all of her books, so Run was always on my list. It wasn‘t my favorite of hers and would almost rate it so-so but I love her style and am giving it a pick. An interesting construct but it didn‘t feel as naturally fleshed out as her other books.
Ann Patchett is one of my favorite authors, but this was not my favorite of her books. As always, the writing is beautiful, but it felt like there was way too much trying to happen in this novel, resulting in almost nothing happening in reality. I wish the characters had been narrowed and the focus had been tightened onto a few key ideas.
One of my favorite authors. We're on a road trip and I'm not driving, which means I'm reading 📖. #Masstrip
Above is an artist's rendering of me reading the last five pages of this book. It really got me for some reason.
My wife has been telling me for months to read Ann Patchett, but other books kept popping up to the top of my stack. It got to the point where it was becoming an issue. So I picked this up and...surprise: she was right. I've read 250 pages the past two days.
My #bathtimebooks are any paperback or non-leather hardback in my library. I don't take my Kindle in the bath. #autumnreads @Tiffy_Reads
Couldn't resist stopping into this used bookstore, which I've always wanted to visit. I had a half day today to kick off a week of vacation; what better way to start it than with new books?!
How is it that this got great reviews, yet, I'm having a hard time investing? I love how her voice supersedes time and place, but I wanted to like this more than I actually do. I'm going to keep on keeping on though. I'm hoping my mind will change soon.
Seemed like a good time to reread this, and I was right. I think I liked it even better this time than I did when I first read it. The institutionalized racism in the book is even more poignant and painful.
Ann Patchett has a way of making you fall in love with her characters, which makes it all the more devastating when there is a sudden, unexpected catastrophe right at the end (but that, in retrospect, you should have seen coming). Beautiful writing in this book as always. I also love the cover and the iridescent blue color on the inside flaps of the hardcover edition.
Book haul from today. (And I actually have wifi for the first time in a week, so I can start to work through attempting to catch up on Litsy! 💕)
Confession: I didn't know what a deckle edge was before this prompt. I did find some examples on my TBR shelves, though. #feistyfeb #deckleedge
