I listened to this on audio and it was fantastic. What a lovely behind the scenes view of a true classic. Having other actors involved in the film, as well as Rob Reiner and William Goldman, popping in to share their memories made it that much more delightful. ❤️

A personal and moving memoir about the filming The Princess Bride, one of my favorite movies.

This was even more delightful in audiobook! Elwes‘s memories of making such an iconic movie are so much fun. He‘s funny and personable, and the affection he has for the cast and crew, and the respect for the project were all so great. And all the little guest appearances by so many people were an added delight! I need to watch the movie again! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

I have had this book on my TBR for a while, and my #NewYearWhoDis list from @vonnie862 gave me the nudge I needed to bump it up a priority level. I'm so glad I did because this book was honestly delightful. Elwes is so warm and friendly throughout, with a very upbeat view of the making of The Princess Bride. I loved the additional memories from other members of the cast and crew throughout as well. If you are looking for some "dirt" you'll be ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) disappointed. But if you want some fun little facts and anecdotes, along with reassurance that this cast really was having as much fun as they appeared to be, you should enjoy this one. There were so many fun and interesting moments - I'm excited to pass this one around my family before we all get together for a rewatch!! One minor quibble - it would have been quite nice to have a cast list somewhere - I had to look up to see which names⬇ 2y

When it comes to reading challenges @Clwojick and I are on the same page: Do ALL OF THEM!! 😂 This one isn't until May, but if you want to start planning, here is the info. Choosing a movie is going to be the tough part. I feel like The Princess Bride is my favorite, with Emperor's New Groove a close second... but I'm not sure I'll be able to find books with MCs named Buttercup or Kuzco 😆
#MayMovieMadness

Clwojick Hahahah! Those names will definitely be tough! Maybe find a book with a character who shares the same name as the actor/actress/voice actor etc. 2y
Nelnjali The Princess Bride and The Emperor's New Groove are favorites of mine too. My favorite, Jim Henson's Labyrinth, has a difficult name to find too...Jareth. I could go with Sarah, I guess, but let's be honest, it's all about the Goblin King. Lol 2y

Cary Elwes does more than reflect on his time making The Princess Bride; he also shares the thoughts of his fellow cast-mates & others who played a role in the making of the film. Hearing the stories of these actors, writers, & directors made me feel as if the experience making it was as magical for them as it was for me to see. I don't often get a lot out of audiobooks, but this one was so much fun & made me want to revisit the film immediately.

Overall pretty good, although I was surprised it was written with a ghost writer (/ghost co-writer) because the text isn't that high quality? Could have been funnier and stood out more, etc. As it is, a neat little book that is only interesting if you're really into The Princess Bride (but who isn't?), so explaining plot points was perhaps not the best choice. A weak pick.

Cary Elwes is exactly as you wish him to be - charming, affable and English. The perfect Westley.
I love both Goldman‘s book and Reiner‘s film. They are wholesome entertainment and have stood the test of time well. Cary‘s stories of making the film, with cameos from many others, are similarly heartwarming. He speaks highly of all involved and appreciates the opportunities and connections the film has given him. For fans.

A bit lighter subject matter for today's book. Although I have this in print form as I found it on a bargain shelf, I listened on audio as I knew it would be so much better to hear all the different actors/etc. A welcome distraction from Covid-era lockdowns that were going on at the time. So lovely. A wonderful read for fans of The Princess Bride (not sure it would have much appeal outside of that).

If you read and loved this, I'd highly recommend William Goldman's books about his life and work in Hollywood (I'll tag in comments). Elwes mentions them both, and they are great reads and interesting views into movie making from an absolute legend.
