so-soThis was an original story with solid world building. I enjoyed the characters a lot. The pacing was uneven though, and the writing style seemed bland. A solid, average 3 stars. I am slightly interested in the rest of the story since it ended on a cliffhanger, but I'm not itching to finish it. pickAnouk is a very constant character, but the fact that she‘s 17 with three love interests in this book (and one that proposes TWICE) bothers me a little. I think the ‘bury your gays‘ trope is tired, and also fake in this sense so - why? Petra was the first trans representation I‘d ever seen in a ‘mainstream‘ book, and I love her to bits.

This one was a bit strange at first. It took a little bit to kind of become familiar with this world and know what was going on. I liked that there were different types of characters in the story, witches, goblins, and beasties. It made for an interesting story and I‘m interested to see the direction the second book will take.

so-soSo this book gave me mixed feelings. On the whole I think the concept was super imaginative and something I‘ve never really read before. The characters were relatable and some were even morally grey which I loved. But something about it made this book a very long read even though it wasn‘t an extremely long book. Over all I may not reread this but I‘m planning on trying to make it through the next book in the series. #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

Today‘s #colormepretty is #rainbow! I went for an LGBT+ theme for this one.
Grim Lovelies‘ main character might be straight, but there‘s a trans character and a gay character.
Passing I read for a class, but the point is brought up that it could be read as a lesbian awakening. After reading it, I would agree with that point.
Hero I read in high school and it‘s a great book about the struggles of coming out AND being a teenage superhero. 10/10
bailedUgh I really tried but I'm throwing it in at chapter 28. I'm so so so incredibly bored and not interested and the characters are just dull.
I picked this up for a few seconds yesterday and wasn't feeling it so I am going to try again!
pickThis was a fast paced and interesting read. Though the magic system didn't seem consistent. The writing was fine but not very vivid descriptions. But it was a fun story with interesting characters.

This was fun! New and exciting and such a fun take on magic! Sometimes the same old magic ideas bore me but this twist was a lot of fun! The only sad thing is the conclusion doesn‘t come out till September! 😭

pickMy friend Unity and I decided to start a book club and by that I mean we both read the same book and then talk about it. January was Grim Lovelies, and I personally enjoyed it. Again, a token, tragic gay who may or may not fall into the “bury your gays” trope (hopefully not!) and a token trans character, and a majority of the characters were cis, het, and white, but I have hopes for this series!

pickI loved the concept of this book. It had some great ambience at the beginning which I felt was lacking as the book progressed. However I did really enjoy the tale and will definitely keep reading the series.

pickThis was a very fast paced, thrilling read! The world building was so creative and unique, I have not read anything like this before! The writing was beautiful. Anouk was a very interesting character especially at the end. I can‘t wait a whole year for the sequel 😩 But I do highly recommend this book! It‘s a great October read and perfect for introducing urban fantasy to someone who is unfamiliar with that genre. 4.5/5 🌟
