Mr K had his mammoth 14hr one to one BBQ course today. He trimmed and cooked a brisket. I browsed and swapped book recommendations in the bookstore!
To my fellow Texas littens, you may know this already, but I just discovered it today. You can get a library card to the Houston Public Library for FREE if you're a Texas resident. For someone like me, who lives in a small town and uses Overdrive/Libby frequently, this is great news 😁 You can register online and instantly use Houston's online database of books on Overdrive. 📚 Non-residents can apply as well, but it's $40 per year for an account.
Just wondering what states and countries are represented on Litsy. Where are you from? #texan #panhandle #originallynewmexico
I'm taking a mini vacation to Texas on Friday! Two nights in Austin, two nights in San Antonio. I'm from Boston and it's my first visit to Texas! Do any of you Littens have any recommendations? Books, food, sights, cool local hangouts? Thanks!
I have a bookish dilemma. Many years ago I read a Michener book that takes place partly in #Mexico and partly in Texas. The only other detail I remember is a car chase involving a Cadillac. I *think* It was the book Mexico, but it could have been this one? 🤷🏻♀️

My second time through this book. Really enjoying reading about a part of the world that you hear so much about but know very little. They‘re “big” books and this can turn some people off but the effort is well worth it.
Twice, I have taken the train from Detroit, through Chicago and on to Texas. My son and family live outside Houston. It‘s a 27+ hour ride to northern Texas, then a 4+ hour bus ride to Houston. Phew! My favorite place to hang out is the observation car, where you meet all the sociable people from all over the USA and more! As for the tagged book, I have had it on my shelf for about 8 years and it is still unread. #HeyJune #TickettoRide
1. Crunchy
2. A Coffin for Dimitrios (out of the two I‘ve read so far).
3. I‘m going to Houston next week, so I need to do all that getting ready to travel stuff.
4. All the languages!
5. Geology...mostly because I changed majors and already had the credits.

I was born in Texas, but raised in Michigan
Still driving across Texas. Everybody goes through the border control checkpoint about 60 miles in from the border. I was racing away from the bands of the hurricane that hit landfall in Mexico. Went through a little rain so I got out of dodge before the worst of it hit, I hope. Taking a DQ ice cream break now in a tiny town called George West. Still two hours from home...
Some more sights as I drove the back country roads in south Texas. Sprawling acreage with cattle enjoying the bounty (such a difference from what I've seen of cattle yards elsewhere--not Texas). Couldn't resist when the cattle were Longhorns! And countless oil wells in the famous Eagle Ford Shale counties.
A close up of the fantastic magnet from @Texreader along with the pretty bookmark and one of 3 postcards 😁😍
1. Texas our Texas, all hail the mighty State!
2. Pride & Prejudice followed by To Kill a Mockingbird. 3. Sookie Stackhouse 4. The Princess Bride 5. In Plain Sight or Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries 6. I'm more of a I like this song person. Last band I paid to see was my son's 7. Hot Pink 8. Romance/mystery/urban fantasy/YA fantasy but I'll read most anything with a good narrative drive 9. Government attorney 10. 2 dogs 1 cat #meetthelittens
My Texas TBR - books I either brought with me to read or have picked up since I arrived. I have made no dent in my reading challenge or personal reading goals. 2017 took off in a very unexpected direction so I am just enjoying the freedom of reading what my #litmail pbc friends send me!
Of course, I bought this on my first trip to Half Price Books after moving to Dallas, Texas four days ago.
My husband and I have the 60-page rule. If a book doesn't grab you in the first 60 pages, give it up. This one, though, I went much farther and #DNF not once, but twice. I've read most of Michener's fiction and liked most of it (except Alaska. I should have applied the rule there😊). But I just got bogged down with Texas, and I don't think I'm having a third go. #readJanuary
