In this country men can be born and live well and die without ever having to feel much of what makes their ease possible, just because so much is buried under all of this black and white mess that in their ignorance some folks accept it as a natural condition. . . .
Here is the June #roaringwolf challenge prompts! As a reminder to participate tag both of us in a review that meets the prompt to be entered in our monthly drawing. Life got crazy over here so we will be posting our last few months winners soon! Happy reading! @LitsyEvents @Littlewolf1
Today is the day: Juneteenth. “Words of Emancipation didn't arrive until the middle of June so they called it Juneteenth. So that was it, the night of Juneteenth celebration, his mind went on." -- Ralph Ellison
Happy Juneteenth (observed) U.S. Littens!
I got to work this morning (because it‘s already Friday in Japan) and was happily told to go home.
I‘m going to spend this unexpected day off reading about the history of the Emancipation Proclamation & Juneteenth.

Here's a sample of some of the fun prompts we have for the added June Holiday Themed Reads to go along with #LittenListen Audioathon. June Wrap-Up:
GREAT reading month. Ended the month with all of my #Edelweiss and #Netgalley ARCs reviewed!!!! Whew!
Lots of great reading for #BlackLivesMatter #BLM
Home all the time = not much audio. Put my audible subscription on hold.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Finished after sitting on my TBR list for twenty years!!! A must read especially now!! 🎧 Audiobook made it fantastic.
“Nothing ever stops; it divides and multiplies, and I guess sometimes it gets ground down superfine, but it doesn‘t just blow away.” Ralph Ellison #juneteenth
“Words of Emancipation didn't arrive until the middle of June so they called it Juneteenth. So that was it, the night of Juneteenth celebration, his mind went on. The celebration of a gaudy illusion.” ― Ralph Ellison, Juneteenth. Today IS #JuneteenthDay .
Just signed up #ShopBlackBookStores #Deal #BuyOneGetOneFree audiobooks through Libra.fm I purchased Vanishing Half and American Spy special offer today for #Juneteenth
Posting my list for June's #BookSpin now so I don't forget and end up doing it late.
Changed back to mostly print books with some ebooks for next month. Pretty mad at myself that I was in a reading funk this month and completely failed the bookspinbonanza so very badly. Looking forward to a new month and a new list.
@TheAromaofBooks #JuneBookSpin
And one big pan for The Lamentations of Zeno......
Quick repost for anyone who missed it over the weekend — I‘m hosting #30junebooks here and on Instagram. If you participate & tag me on at least 15 of the 30 days, you‘ll be entered in a drawing for a $15 Amazon gift card. There‘s still plenty of time to hit 15! 🙂
This one looks really fun! If you haven‘t ever done a picture challenge, you should join us!!! #30junebooks @howjessreads

Redshirts and Concrete Blonde are already in progress. Most of the others are holds that have just come through from the library or are just about to. What are you most excited to read next month?
My stats for June...I really wanted to finish something today, but I‘m fighting off yet another headache, thanks to the hot temps outside. July may be a time to finish a lot of these in progress books. I also need to get back to #13books13weeks . Crossing my fingers!
My June Stats! I won‘t tell you how many of those were “planned” in late May, but it didn‘t make 25%. I think I should just stop trying to set goals. I‘m using more audiobooks as my walks and runs are increasing. #june2018
Today is #Juneteenth. From #RalphEllison's novel of that name: "But what a feeling can come over a man just from seeing the things he believes in and hopes for symbolized in the concrete form of a man." #Emancipation #Hope #CivilRights #HumanRights #Juneteenth2018

The bottom four books need to be read by June 30th for various postal book clubs including #lmpbc and #1001books plus one book for the #aummerreadingchallenge and one for me! June is going to be busy too so reading will have to be done in between events!
It's not you, it's me. I am just not in a place right now, when I'm mostly reading at the end if very trying days, to unravel meaning from lots of stream of consciousness. For the same reason I don't think I'd try to tackle Faulkner right now. I'm going to try The Invisible Man instead someday, possibly should have started there.
From my #tbr. I just got a rave review of this one from a friend, so it may have to move up the stack.
#riotgrams #blackwriters
Started a few days ago but haven't got very far. A lot -- A LOT -- of stream of consciousness which is always hard for me to read even in small doses.
Here's what I read for the month of June. Technically not done with Talking As Fast As I Can or Dating You/Hating You yet, but there's the rest of today! I also didn't finish the audio of Furiously Happy. Didn't love any books this month. Everything was just okay to me. #bestofjune #junebookbugs #wrapup #splashintosummereads
Happy #Juneteenth! If you're unfamiliar with the tradition, Juneteenth is a celebration that commemorates the official legal end of slavery on June 19, 1865. ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
No better way to celebrate than with a novel about it by the amazing Ralph Ellison. Has anyone read this?
Planned #junereads #tbr - including my 3 pending #NetGalley ARCs and resuming my King chronological read.
How did we reach the last week of May already? Hope you guys are having a good month and that you will all join in for a new month, this time it's #junebookbugs. Feel free to repost!
(Thank yous to @RaimeyGallant for the hashtag suggestion and @saresmoore for the attractive authors idea!)
The story of a white, race-baiting senator and his deathbed conversations with a Black preacher. Because the story is made up mostly of memories, the narration jumps around quite a bit. But the prose is amazing. And Ellison does not hide his opinion of politicians!
Just two more left on my #LitsyAtoZ. I'll be able to check this one off my #MountTBR too!
Happy Juneteenth, everyone! Big day in history today - expect a couple more of these!
