1. Watermelon 🍉
2. Relish by Lucy Knisley is perfect for any foodie. This is the first book of hers I read & have since read them all. I enjoy her artwork & my favorite was the one she wrote about her pregnancy.

#ReadAway2024 #MarvelousMarch2024

Reread of this graphic novel (I posted my review 7 years ago on Litsy) for my virtual blogger foodie book club Feb/March selection. It stayed charming & fun, both the illustrations & the author‘s take on the pleasures of eating. I made her Mom‘s Pesto recipe because I was craving pesto & turned some of it into a cream sauce for cheese tortellini, cherry tomatoes & Boursin “bites” which are pretty delightful. ⬇️

DebinHawaii …It was my “couch dinner” for Easter 😉 & delicious. 😋 I haven‘t finished my blog post, but I‘ll link the recipe when I do. 8mo

Knisley relates favorite recipes to memories from her life, which was a fun concept. Each chapter has an illustrated recipe, and they looked tasty. I decided to stop reading, however, after a story of Knisley and her friend buying porn magazines as kids during a trip to Mexico. She draws detailed covers, which surprised me and were off-putting. I‘m sure I‘ll read more of her work, just not this one. #graphicnovel #memoir

For the most part just a lovely, colourful memoir of experiences around, food, eating and cooking, friends and family. I love the art style and will be happy to read her other graphic memoirs.
There's a sprinkling of content that I think prevents this from being 'for all ages' but the majority is light and sweet.
Warning: Fatphobia (?) just a couple moments that lack introspection. I guess it's hard to be objective about what you love.

One of the librarians was so shocked during our shift when she established I wasn‘t joking when I said that I‘d read nothing in May that she hustled back with this little stack of books for me… I don‘t usually borrow books from work but she was so earnest that I didn‘t have the heart to knock them back 🧐📚

Julsmarshall Some great books in that stack! 2y

Loved this graphic novel from artist Lucy Knisley sharing her life growing up among foodies and chefs! A love letter to food and family, this has been on my #TBR for ages and I‘m so glad I finally finished, thanks to #litsyatx for the push! @Soubhiville

Thanks @Jeg for loaning me this graphic novel about food. It‘s fair to say that I am a “live to eat” rather than “eat to live” kinda gal, so this was right up my alley. 🤤😋😍

• ModernMrsDarcy.com #MMD flight pick for December 2020

RELISH is graphic novel about the transformative powers of good food. It was geared toward middle graders but I think adults would love it just as much. It has a few great recipes and it really helps to have the pictures to follow along.

Reading has been in a weird lull the past couple months. I‘ve read almost only non-fiction and very light material. This book was the perfect companion for a road trip with kids. I could pick it up and put it down easily to help kiddos with car activities and it was such a fun way to read little snippets of a traveler‘s life through the lens of food.

The third book of hers I have read this year. Loved them all. Not a graphic novel fan , I‘ve become a fan of Lucy. Great drawings. A quick delightful read. Was perfect for when I was in hospital for a couple of days dealing with a racing heart.. again!! I think you might enjoy this book @MrsMalaprop

I finally read Relish, and it was a delight. Lots of fun, cute, delicious, charming. I definitely enjoyed myself, and I saved some of the recipes. I'm also counting it as my food book for the Reading Women Challenge 2020.

I look forward to reading more from Knisley.

I skimmed the summary of this book and it didn't really seem like my kinda thing, but I read it anyway cuz someone recommended it to me. Can't say I enjoyed it, but that's on me. The book delivered exactly what it promised to deliver. Food memoirs just aren't for me.

Silver lining: I discovered there's a movie called “Relish“, so this counts as my #PopSugarReadingChallenge: “a book with the same title as a movie or TV show but is unrelated to it“

#unpopularopinion I‘ll be brutally honest. There‘s nothing wrong with this graphic foodie memoir, but it‘s just not for me. I rarely enjoy memoirs from anyone in any format, and I can barely cook even a basic meal, so a foodie memoir is so far outside my zone, it‘s practically in another universe. If you like to cook, or enjoy memoirs, then you‘ll probably love this. I‘m going to relish #bailey snuggles.

britt_brooke I love memoirs, and even though I hate to cook, I love food ones. It makes no sense. Might give this a try. 5y
ValerieAndBooks I‘m curious!! I‘ll see first whether the library has it, though. 5y

The story details the author's life as a child of two foodie parents. She grew up eating more gourmet food as a child than I have eaten my whole life. She also got to travel the world, experiencing new countries and tasting the cuisine. It was interesting to see this all from a child's perspective, yet I wonder if she realized how lucky she was to grow up that way. The book had it's moments, but did not leave a big impression on me.

So after some poking around Goodreads and Amazon these are the four I have narrowed down to, if you would like to help me pick. #GroupU #LMPBC
1. Relish by Lucy Knisley (cooking AND comics, yes please).
2. Nimona by Noelle Stevenson (adventure!)
3. Lumberjanes V 1 (awesome girls, friendship, weird things in the woods)
4. The Prince & The Dressmaker by Jen Wang (a new fairy tale)

TheBookHippie 4-2-1-3 my likes in order 📖❤️ but any is fine ! I‘m so excited! 5y
bibliobard @TheBookHippie I know! They all sounded great to me! 5y

LibrarianRyan I have read all of them but Relish. However, the Prince and the Dressmaker is such a wonderful tale. I tell everyone under the sun to read it. It's a Litsy award winner (i wont lie, nominated by me), it has won other inclusivity awards. I would so read it again, and again, and again. But Pick any. None of these are bad. 5y
bibliobard @LibrarianRyan good to know! It sounded wonderful when I read the synopsis. It will likely end up being The Prince or Relish. I am a big foodie so that one really spoke to me. 5y
DGRachel I've read Lumberjanes and Nimona (I actually have a subscription to Lumberjanes individual issues!), so I vote for Relish or Prince, but I could totally reread the other two, as well. :) 5y

Picked up this graphic novel that I had on hold at the library. It took a little while for it to come. This was picked for my online book club that I‘m looking forward to reading. It has tons of recipes in it but is a memoir written in graphic novel form. On thing I love about our book club is that I get to read of a lot of things I wouldn‘t have otherwise even known about. Has anyone read this already or even heard of it?

rretzler I‘ve not heard of it. Sounds like a great book club. I wish I could find one. 5y

I wanted to like this so much more than I did! New & enticing recipes throughout the book. Delightful artwork. But, Knisley jumps so abruptly from moment to moment that I found it difficult to connect with her story. Maybe if I try cooking some of her recipes I'll feel differently?

A cute graphic novel about growing up as the child of foodies. Along with her love of fast food, Knisley shares stories of growing up, from the city to the countryside, coping with her parent‘s divorce, learning to cook, traveling, and of course, recipes. Bright and vibrant illustrations bring her stories to life.
