Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit | John E. Douglas, Mark Olshaker
In chilling detail, the legendary Mindhunter takes us behind the scenes of some of his most gruesome, fascinating, and challenging casesand into the darkest recesses of our worst nightmares. During his twenty-five year career with the Investigative Support Unit, Special Agent John Douglas became a legendary figure in law enforcement, pursuing some of the most notorious and sadistic serial killers of our time: the man who hunted prostitutes for sport in the woods of Alaska, the Atlanta child murderer, and Seattle's Green River killer, the case that nearly cost Douglas his life. As the model for Jack Crawford in The Silence of the Lambs, Douglas has confronted, interviewed, and studied scores of serial killers and assassins, including Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, and Ed Gein, who dressed himself in his victims' peeled skin. Using his uncanny ability to become both predator and prey, Douglas examines each crime scene, reliving both the killer's and the victim's actions in his mind, creating their profiles, describing their habits, and predicting their next moves.

Definitely a page turner. I‘m glad that Netflix decided to make the show more of a story to follow as opposed to a documentary like The Innocent Man. I‘m sure I‘ll be looking for more of John Douglas‘ books.

⭐️: 5/5

((By the way, is there any way to change the color of frames when editing a picture? Or is it white only? I have an iPhone. Not sure if that changes the capabilities of the app.))

I put this audiobook on hold way back in December, and it finally came in a couple weeks ago. It was a suggestion from @LauraJ for #newyearwhodis, hosted by @monalyisha! It was an interesting, but difficult read, as it delves into the gritty details of brutal cases and the minds of serial killers. My only complaint is that Douglas came across as a bit egotistical and I got the impression that he was never wrong about a profile/case. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

LauraJ He‘s not always the most likable guy. Season 2 of the show is on Netflix in August. 4mo

The parts about the actual behavioral science are fantastic and incredibly interesting, but the author adds way too much of his personal life and backstory. It just takes away from what I think the main focus of the book should be. However, overall it is a really interesting read. If you like shows like Criminal Minds or Mindhunter, they both have a lot of things taken from this book. (Mindhunter is actually based off this book)

So I loved Season One of Mindhunter on Netflix and am anxiously awaiting Season Two. I also am a murderino, so it is not surprising that I loved this. I listened to most of it on audio while traveling a couple weeks ago, and it was slightly terrifying when I stopped at a mostly abandoned gas station in east Texas, but I still couldn't stop listening to it. A gripping introspective into the lives of both serial killers and the people who've learned how to hunt them. A rare opportunity to look at both sides of the story to find the penultimate truth. Although bogged down by personal stories at first, power through or skip to get into dark and devious crime stories that can often teach a lesson about human nature. Highly recommend this one (the TV show isn't too bad either 😉)

This book is incredible. John Douglas was responsible for the idea of interviewing convicted serial killers/rapists in order to develop the FBI‘s ability to generate reliable profiles. He talks about how he joined the FBI, how he got involved in profiling and his involvement in a wide variety of cases across America. Really recommended if you like true crime (and are also obsessed with Criminal Minds like I am) 😁
