@Mrs_B on your recommendation picked up it gower street today this beautiful 🤩 copy 😁happy weekend see you soon 😘
Hey, Paula! I think that you sent me a book from another of your #LMPBC groups? No sweat, just wanted to let you know. 😊
If you‘d like me to forward it, drop me an email (robinb@litsy.com) with the recipient‘s name/address. 👍
This is almost a Robin Hood tale. Dona really grew on me, and I loved her wit, courage and joie de vivre. There was humour in the dialogue that had me chuckling.
I got a bit tired of the “women are only good for having children” attitude, and hoped this would be challenged more but sadly wasn‘t. I don‘t know if it‘s just indicative of the time period, but I did roll my eyes!
“There was silence between them for a moment, and she wondered if all women, when in love, were torn between two impulses, a longing to throw modesty and reserve to the winds and confess everything, and an equal determination to conceal the love forever, to be cool, aloof, utterly detached, to die rather than admit a thing so personal, so intimate.“
Planning 🤞🏻 to make some good progress on this today #LMPBC #GroupO #BookWormJillK #TheBookHippie @ElizaMarie
This past months reading pleasure❤️
Favourite‘s were Frenchman‘s Creek by Daphne de Maurier, Willa Cather‘s Death Comes to the Bishop, another brilliant novella by Claire Keegan and a beautiful memoir of childhood by Alan Garner that made me want to write my own childhood history. So many wonderful writers!!!
I‘m not ready to post my 2023 favourites yet as I still have 3 weeks reading time to go 🤣

Heyyyy I found a “classic” that I like!
Loved loved loved this. Dona, freshly 30 & bored of her life, with society & kids & a drunk bore of a husband, flees to their estate in Navron & meets a pirate. It‘s really a timeless tale even with the swashbuckling. “People who travel are always fugitives”

I‘ve yet to read a Du Maurier book I‘ve not liked. This one perfect little book hit the spot just right! #pick #daphnedumaurier
1. Sparring Partners by John Grisham
2. Frenchman's Creek by Daphne du Maurier
3. By my mood or priority of next bookclub.

Audiowalking along the beach. Lady Dona leaves her husband in London and arrives at the country estate in Cornwall. Cleaning has been neglected and she says the house smells like a #graveyard. #SavvySettings @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Eggs
An exciting and romantic adventure story set in Cornwall about a gentlewoman and a pirate. Daphne du Maurier is one of my favourite authors and I just love her writing. It‘s so vivid I can almost imagine myself there on the banks of Frenchman‘s Creek. A great story to take you away from the trials and tribulations of life. You can‘t beat a swashbuckling pirate tale! Highly recommended.

What a great pirate story. I love du Maurier.
#My5Star2021 @Tove_Reads My other favorites for March are The Star and the Shamrock and Catfish and Mandala.
3/5 stars. I liked it, but some of the language is outdated. Very romantic. Especially enjoyed the first chapter.

This was me when I realized I forgot to read an #authoramonth book. I should be able to finish it in time.

I was supposed to read the #authorofthemonth book but got sucked into the Baylor/Uconn game (not on in the background. My mom would have my head if I‘d blocked the TV during that!) #marchmadness is real yo. #20in4
No gothic mystery vibes in this book. A fun pirate adventure and romp. I'm glad Dona had her adventure and learned that her children come first. I hope I can find the movie with Joan Fontaine.
#AuthorAMonth @Soubhiville
I rather enjoyed Frenchman‘s Creek. I loved the relationship between Dona and her pirate. I borrowed this on audio from the library, but I think I‘ll need to buy a physical copy for my shelves. #AuthorAMonth #BookSpinBingo
Hubby and I walked by a LFL and found these. Middle book is more for him. Pleased to find the DuMaurier, as she‘ll be #authoramonth next month! Valentine‘s Day flowers in background 😊.
‘And all this, she thought, is only momentary, is only a fragment in time that will never come again, for yesterday already belongs to the past and is ours no longer, and tomorrow is an unknown thing that may be hostile. This is our day, our moment, the sun belongs to us, and the wind, and the sea, and the men for‘ard there singing on the deck.‘ #finished #reread
I don‘t read much romance but I am loving this book. ❤️
Du Maurier really knows how to create a setting 🙌 this felt more fun and less intense than some of the other books I have read by her, but it was a really enjoyable read. And anything with a pirate in it guarantees a fun read!
Lady Dona St. Columb lives what some might call a #perfectlife in the high society of London with her husband and two children. But for Dona, this life is boring and not at all what she wants. But then a handsome pirate finds his way into her life, and the life isn‘t as bad as it seemed before 👌
Also, I‘m having strong #perfectlife-vibes today!

Spending the evening on our balcony reading almost feels like being in the #south of Europe on vacation 👌

I‘m at s two day seminar in crisis psychology, and I got my own hotel room (!!!!!! - I‘m way too excited, I know), and I have brought this pretty little thing to keep me company tonight 👌

I'm only about 1/3 into this one but it seems to be very different from Du Maurier's earlier novels. Much more of a romance which isn't my fave. It's not bad, I just prefer the more gothic stories if Rebecca and My Cousin Rachel.
It looks like i've discovered Daphne du Maurier 😊

The last of my #birthdayhaul - my in-laws brought these and some other goodies for me today, and I'm a happy book worm 📚🐛

We arrived safely at our holiday cottage. I'm still reading 'The Asylum for wayward Victorian girls' but his is my TBR for the next six days. I tried to be reasonable this time. It was hard but I think I managed. 😊 #holidayreading
#bookmail! This arrived today from BookDepository. It promises intrigue and pirates. Have never heard of this DuMaurier before- hope it's a good one!

Pirates aaaarrr the perfect illusion for glory and riches and legend! Or in this case, the unhappy married woman, thinking child rearing is all the adventure that's left for her, finds the pirate's life isn't all she thought it would be.

With Frenchman's Creek just around that wooded point, I always feel the urge to read the book when I walk this way!
Loving #DaphneDuMaurier My Cousin Rachel so much I'm putting her other book Frenchman's Creek on my tbr list. I hope this one is just as good since I'm really loving her writing style :) Anyone else read this one?
