Good.
Good.
When Captain Trevelyan rents his remote house to an outsider for the winter & takes a house in town, his nearest neighbours in the small village of Sittaford are perplexed. The new temporary tenants, a woman & her daughter, are pleasant enough & they often extend invitations to visit. One evening, the women & four visitors decide to hold a séance, but things take a turn when a message comes through purporting to be from Trevelyan himself. (Cont'd)
Continuing with my reread of all Agatha Christie‘s novels and short stories. I remember really liking this one when I first read it plus it‘s perfect for the season ❄️
As I heard that the movie is a kind of a mix of both the tagged book and Hallowe'en Party, I'm trying to read them both before seeing the movie in order to do a proper comparison.
I'm a bit sceptical about this specific movie adaptation... we're gonna see 🤷🏻♀️
There is a a seance and the death of Captain Trevelyan is predicted, and when Major Burnaby checks on his old friend - he is dead. The detective in this one is officially Narracott but Emily is the amateur sleuth and the one who solves the case. The reveal - who and why and how solved - seemed a bit weak - but overall a good read.
#BookSpinBingo and 1/2 goal met for the week.

Thank you for hosting @Eggs
Today is National Book Lovers Day - so prompt is to open a book, turn to random page and share a sentence (in case you can't see the image 🙂)
From tagged book, page 235: “It was half past three, and, with his head spinning from the effects of Mrs. Curtis's conversation, Mr. Enderby went out for a stroll.“
Make a great day everyone 🙂

Yesterday I decided to do a month long readathon of Agatha Christie from 5/20-6/20.. #agathachristiereadathon if you would like to join in the fun leave a comment.. we don‘t even need to read the same books together but it must be Agatha Christie. The goal is to see how many we can read in a month
I read 22 books (7 were seasonal reads) during #WinterReadathon and these 4 were my favorite! Thank you @Andrew65 @DieAReader @GHABI4ROSES for a fabulous holiday reading season!
This was a great winter offering from the queen of mystery. It was incredibly witty, and kept me guessing the whole way through. As usual a few comments from the period had me really cringing, but my discomfort was more than made up for by several of the the female characters in this one who were so fabulously sharp and tenacious. I just wanted to spend as much time with those ladies as possible, especially when they got together to hang out.
Had fun with #Scarathlon2022 read. Thank you so much @Clwojick & @StayCurious for being wonderful hosts 😍💐🙏 Here is my total points. Thanks to all the hosts of readathons & fun bingos . Cheers to all #Teamslaughter members 🥰
Perfect book to start #scarathlon2022 #October #doublespin Small town mystery with a good twist of table turning. I loved the character Emily, witty and charming. 4⭐️ 6.5hrs #readathon

I've shared a review of The Sittaford Mystery on my blog. Please note that this is a review of a TV adaptation.
I love this adaptation, which is incredibly atmospheric.

My last several Christie books have only been okay and were basically saved by the narrator (often Hugh Fraser.) This one, however, was really good, with fun characters and an interesting mystery. I figured out the murderer but thought I had to be wrong because there seemed to be no way for this person to have done it. Emily — our heroine- is fantastic. The book didn‘t need Poirot or Miss Marple. #audiowalk
Agatha Christie‘s The Sittaford Mystery is my new walking book. No Poirot, no Miss Marple, but so far I‘m liking it. Hugh Fraser narrates, and he‘s always great. The top left pic is the fern garden in the botanical gardens; that‘s the clearest I‘ve ever seen that path. #audiowalk
Not my favourite Agatha Christie book, but still quite good. Now I have to watch it! Two weeks of vacation means lots of books and movies, ⛄️
This is a pretty straight forward standalone mystery from the queen of mystery novels. And it has different titles depending on what edition you have.

This snowy story was difficult to get into in the summer heat, especially listening to part of it while driving through the desert, but despite the incongruity of the setting, I really enjoyed this one in much the way I enjoy all the Christie mysteries that I enjoy. I enjoy the cute twists and turns, and I always love a lady detective.
I always consider it a win when I find a Christie that I don‘t remember reading!
Poirot and Miss Marple are fabulous, but my favorite Christies tend to be the standalones like Secret at Chimneys, The Man in the Brown Suit, and now the Sittaford Mystery aka Mystery at Hazelmoor. The setting is wonderful, the characters are terrific, and there‘s a strong heroine to pull it all together. Highly recommended!
4. This book is something of an homage to Arthur Conan Doyle's The House of the Baskervilles. What similarities can you find between the two?
#agathachristieclubR2
3. Christie has given us another plucky heroine. What did you think of Emily Trefusis and her mystery-solving skills? Why do you think she decides to stay with James Pearson? What do you think she's should have done?
#agathachristieclubR2
2. Please comment on the solution. Did you find Christie's ending credible or satisfying?

1. Did you enjoy this book? Why or why not?
What I‘m listening to on Hoopla..... Enjoying Hugh Fraser‘s narration!
This was incredibly atmospheric and pulled me right in. I‘m sad this is a stand-alone as I quite enjoyed our cast of characters but not every book can lead to a series.
#agathachristieclubr2
I really enjoyed this wintery Christie, but I'll admit the ending was a bit anticlimactic for me. But it was perfect for the season! Especially if you want a snuggly read without a holiday theme. ❄️❄️❄️

I couldn‘t recall much when I read this many years ago, so I chose to reread it for #AuthorAMonth .A perfect book to cuddle up with, if only I have a fireplace & the weather outside is not at 25°C. As it‘s a stand alone, I did miss Poirot & Miss Marple, but it isn‘t short of a good ensemble of characters, & red herrings. I enjoyed reading the atmospheric winter setting of Dartmoor. Not among Christie‘s best, I think, but still a nice cosy mystery.
In this crime mystery a group of villagers meet on a Friday night, and end up doing table turning. During this, they get the announcement that Mr Trevelyan is dead. And he is indeed later found to be dead.
The police and the press and the accused fiancé are all working to solve who really did it.
I didn‘t see that ending coming

I‘m a little late since this was October‘s book.
Finished the next #AgathaChristieClubR2 book! This one was so good! Honestly, I really like her books when there is no main detective. This was a good one!

My first book done for #teamslaughter Rich guy is killed in a tiny village that is on a moor during a blizzard. Someone is arrested, & his fiancée decides to investigate to clear his name. She‘s a great character—strong, independent, smarter than most of the men. A lot of red herrings but a logical explanation in the end. 16 pts
I forgot to post about it, but I decided to participate in #cyoreadathon w/ books for #scarathlon. @Clwojick @Sace
Another Shedunnit read - I thoroughly enjoyed this and gasped at the solution. Absolutely fantastic golden-age mystery with a hilariously self-assured young woman doing much of the sleuthing. 📚 A very satisfying book to be my 50th of 2019!
Christie never disappoints:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Quite entertaining but somehow I‘ve guessed who did it midway through the book 😂
A house party on a winter‘s afternoon, as the six guests assemble the snow begins to fall heavily; before long, the tiny hamlet of Sittaford, on the edge of Dartmoor, is cut off from the outside world. Inside Stifford House, the curtains are drawn and the fire burns cosily, a game of ‘table turning‘ is suggested. After giggles and false starts, the mood suddenly turns sombre as a message is spelled out, “Captain Trevelyan… Dead… Murder”.
Working my way through the stand-alone mysteries by Agatha Christie. A snowstorm during a seance, a message from the spirits “Captain Trevelyan... dead...murder”, who will leave the isolated village of Sittaford, to travel the six miles through the snow, to discover the truth?
I weighed between a so-so and a pick with this one, and the pick side won. Emily Trefusis is a great heroine and sleuth. A few dated phrases suggesting women can only function with a man are sprinkled throughout - this doesn‘t phase Emily! Not as spooky as I had hoped, but Christie kept my interest. I‘m reading chronologically as part of the #agathachristieclub , and I‘ve enjoyed seeing Christie cultivate her craft. She is truly a master!
A lovely Caturday morning with #Zeke . #catsoflitsy
Vacation day, though it‘s a day filled with errands and chores. At the car dealer getting my car serviced, so time to read a few pages of this Agatha Christie.
I went on a mini Christie binge. Some were better than others but I‘m starting to really enjoy Jane Marple! Sometimes you just need a little murder in the mix!😎😂
There‘s just something so easy and comforting in settling down with an Agatha Christie novel - despite all the murders...

I audio-worked this one, and it‘s the only way I got through all my spreadsheets without dying of boredom. This had some subtle feminist flare too.
This morning's commute read. More Agatha Christie goodness.
