I am so glad this book sat on my TBR for ~26 years bc I didn't have the patience and appreciation to really get this book until now. The social unrest & upheaval of today mirroring the 60s is a big reason why.

No one writes a Low-Country novel truer, or more beautifully than Pat Conroy. I loved these characters and the pages just flew by.

Finally, after ~26 years on the TBR shelf I've started this book; thank god for #BookSpinBingo 😂

I'm not gonna lie, it's the 800 page count that had me putting this off for so long.

I like reading Pat Conroy's book's besides how good they are but because was such a nice man.

Some parts of this novel I loved and others annoyed me. The banter between the brothers was annoying at times. The scene in the theater near the end was a bit hokey and unrealistic. However, the way he moved between past and present was flawless. He gave moving descriptions of The Holocaust and the effects it had on his characters. Jack‘s mother‘s story was equally moving. Conroy is gifted writer in need of an editor who can showcase his talents.

I spent one summer reading almost every day. I read this book over a week and it felt like I traveled to the south and to Italy. It was such an epic and vivid novel, so sweeping and covering so many decades of historical events and the gamut of human emotion and experience. #7days7books number 4

• Started today. My first Pat Conroy novel. The writing is beautiful so far... •

Drizzly Blah Saturday so I decided to explore The Book Thing in Baltimore. It‘s basically a giant, walk in, Little Free Library full of books and volunteers. Take what you want, donate what you want, everything is FREE! I got 3 books for me and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books for our LFL.

1/ I have loved Thor all my life, but I‘m also a sucker for a bad boy, so Loki by just a smidge.

We‘ve settled in on Sanibel Island for a relaxing week. Unfortunately, there‘s a red tide, so we can‘t go in the water, and there are dead fish on the beach. Just means more reading time 😄 Enjoying the beautiful view from our balcony, and watching the rabbits coming out of the mangroves to nibble on the lawn.

I don‘t think I‘ve ever read Conroy before A Lowcountry Life. Love his memoir works - excited to try his fiction.

Once again Pat Conroy delivers a wonderful plot and I couldn‘t put it down. I almost felt the warm sand of South Carolina between my toes.

I also read SOUTH OF BROAD on my own a number of years ago.

I‘ve been trying to use older books from my bookshelves for photo challenges and sometimes it makes me feel the years. I remember feeling #overcome by this book and loving it to bits but now I only have vague memories of the plot. Maybe it is me that is #overcome by age and failing memory! 😳 oh well “when I am old I shall wear purple. With a red hat that doesn‘t go and doesn‘t suit me.” 🤪

Wishing I was still #cruising so I could enjoy lovely moments like the above picture. Instead I'm off to more meetings today!
