Excellent writing. Loved the humour. Fast paced and great travelling around England with his descriptions of the cities and country alike. Can't wait to see how Peter Grant's powers evolve throughout the books. Glad I went out on a limb and bought the complete series. Very much looking forward to continuing this series.

#adventrecommends day 6!

Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch. I love this book; I love this series; I even love Peter twattering on about architecture, which I know some people kvetch about (can‘t defend the sex scenes, but it‘s not like they‘re anywhere near the level of Morrisey‘s barrel-rolling titties, so crack on Aaronovitch. If the reference is lost on you, google ‘Morrisey barrel roll‘. You‘re welcome 💕💕💕).

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I need to read this soon. And now Im on to Google 🤭🤔 2mo
writerlibrarian Love love this series. I'm rereading it and finding these little snippets Aaronovitch wrote and put out there and finally getting to the graphic novels. 2mo

Is there anything better than devouring a book only to realize that it is just the first in a series? What could be better?!

Will you enjoy this book as much as I did? Possibly. Did you grow up on a steady diet of cozy mysteries, London procedurals, gothic heroines and PBS Mystery & Masterpiece Theater? Does the following unholy mash-up appeal to you: Dorothy Sayers + Luther + Penny Dreadful? Yes, you say? Then Peter Grant, your guide, awaits!

Mogoeg Do you consider 'Hot Fuzz' to be an underrated masterpiece of British cinema? Do you enjoy telling people that you knew who John Boyega and Jody Whittaker were BEFORE they were Finn from Star Wars and Dr. Who because you own Attack the Block on BluRay? Then this is *definitely* the book for you. 3mo
Hooked_on_books So…there‘s a nose in your picture. 🧐 3mo

I generally don‘t read books in translation after I‘ve read the original but I was quite curious to check out the Audible adaptation. I really enjoyed the way they presented the story (some off the sound effects and music choices are hilarious) although I still prefer the English audio books. Will probably listen to the next one, too.

julesG Heya, are you maybe interested in the #12Littens12Books? 4mo
julesG Also, books in translation can make me furious. Something always gets lost in translation. 4mo
Kaddele Sounds great! Where do I sign up? 4mo
Kaddele And yes, translations can be incredibly frustrating. With films and audio it‘s mainly because German versions usually have everybody use the same accent - which is my main issue with these audios. The original reading is so rich with accents and varieties that this version just seems a bit bland in that respect. 4mo

Another bk that's been sat in a pile for some time and i think it qualifies as it's a police procedural with wizards and ghosts. It was a real romp which i enjoyed even though supernatural crime isn't normally my cup of tea. Despite owing a lot to harry p i think i will read more and certainly im glad i eventually picked it up.

Liatrek I really enjoyed this one too! I‘m looking forward to reading the rest of the series. 6mo
Cinfhen Cool concept for a novel but don‘t think this will be my cup of tea at all 😉 6mo

Great fantasy. I love that the Goddess Mother Thames is a Nigerian lady. I must say the audiobook is superb because all the accents are great. I also like that the protagonist who becomes a magician apprentice is not the usual white boy. I just wish the author had not made Newton the guy who discovered how magic works; because even though I am a scientist and love physics, Newton the man was a real nasty piece of work

I‘m having a difficult time deciding how I feel about this one. I love mysteries, and this was good one. I enjoyed the author‘s writing, especially the snark. I like fantasy, although high fantasy as opposed to urban fantasy. I would describe this as JK Rowling meets John Scalzi meets Christopher Fowler (maybe, or another British mystery author). I should have loved it, but perhaps too many supernatural beings for me. Jury‘s out still. 3.5⭐️ #2019

KathyWheeler I loved this series, but I like supernatural stuff. 8mo
rretzler @KathyWheeler I used to love supernatural stuff, but I‘m finding as I get older, I have a harder time reconciling with the unrealism of it. IDK. Maybe I‘m like Peter and looking for a more scientific explanation! Perhaps because the supernatural was so “in your face” instead of being more subtle. I did enjoy the writing and I will read more of the series, so I‘m certain it will grown on me. 😀 8mo
ozma.of.oz The supernatural stuff just seems to be a really badly kept secret that gets less secret as the series progresses. I would highly recommend giving the audiobooks a try! The narrator is amazing! ❤️ 8mo
KathyWheeler @blamethestardust He‘s one of best narrators I‘ve ever heard. I love him. 8mo
