I finished this one this week. I picked it up because it was a quick read and I wanted to read a book for the Her Story challenge on goodreads.
I don‘t listen to this podcast. I don‘t know these women, so I don‘t feel fair rating the book.

I‘ve been really overwhelmed the last few months with going back to work after a 12 week LOA and the holidays, but I am excited to get back in the swing of things. Here was my #bookspin list for the month! My #bookspin book is tagged and my #doublespin book is Stiff by Mary Roach!
#VolumesAndVocals
This one has been on my TBR stack for a while now. I understand it‘s more about surviving as an adult than truly #StayinAlive but it‘s tagged as a self-help book & seems to fit the prompt.🤷🏻♀️
“Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah (ah, ah, ah)
Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I'm stayin' alive…”
If you like the podcast My Favorite Murder, this is a must read.
So, I was interested in this book because I listen to their #truecrime podcast. However, this book had very little content regarding their podcast. Slightly disappointing, would have liked to hear more about the behind the scenes with the podcast.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I've only listened to 4 or 5 episodes of MFM, but I enjoyed them so I thought I'd listen to this book. It wasn't what I wasn't expecting (more of the podcast, I guess?), but their chemistry and humor is there, and there's a lot of vulnerability and insight into why they started the show.

Loved this! Read it as an audiobook (which I highly recommend) .. I‘ll definitely be subscribing to their podcast now

I am addicted to true crime. I haven't listened to podcasts in a couple of years; since I discovered the joy of audiobooks. I may have to take a detour back to listen to the My Favorite Murder podcast again. Kilgriff & Hardstark are fun to listen to in this book of stories from their own lives.
My choices. I know SSDGM isn't really a true crime book, but I thought I would add it just in case.

Second time ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
As a fan of the podcast, this was great. It‘s a quick, funny read filled with new stories and additional info about some of the things Karen and Georgia have mentioned on the podcast.
Ironically, I read this while staying in a forest 👀
Book 127 of 2020

I promised to read more for myself & less for work during wfh downtime. (Those work/life boundaries are tougher to enforce!) I like memoir & this fits the bill. This book made me want to journal some of my own experiences around coming of age & sexuality in general. Recommended by a former bookstore coworker, it's been sitting on my TBR for too long.
I‘m not someone who has an interest in true crime, but I am someone who likes podcasts that are hosted by smart and funny women. I really enjoyed this book, which covers how Karen and Georgia met, their childhoods and young adult years, while still retaining all the humor and vulnerability they are known for in their podcast. I also really appreciate their openness about past struggles with drugs and alcohol and their strong support of therapy.
Still not doing great but plodding onwards pals. Illness in the family and having to keep stuff running is a bit of a challenge. It‘s weird being 24 and feeling like too much of a child to look after people well, but also knowing some 24 year olds have kids and houses and keep families going permanently! I guess this will be one of my ‘growing up‘ moments. Grateful for Karen and Georgia‘s book, it feels like talking with old friends.
I‘m being nice with ⭐️⭐️. Okay, when the title is SSDGM, and it‘s a ‘how-to guide‘ by the people who have probably the most popular true crime podcast out there, you expect ... something true crime-ish? Maybe that‘s unreasonable. This was a memoir. And it had funny tales, but it wasn‘t what I was expecting. Maybe the first and last chapter qualified, but by the end, I was skimming. I take one thing from this: f*ck politeness. It wasn‘t for me.
Most Murderinos will already be at least somewhat familiar with many of the stories recounted in Stay Sexy And Don‘t Get Murdered, but Kilgariff and Hardstark offer more nuanced and detailed insights than they might off-the-cuff in a podcast recording. Their radical vulnerability is very impressive. Full review: http://keepingupwiththepenguins.com/stay-sexy-and-dont-get-murdered-karen-kilgar... #SSDGM #MFM #TrueCrime #Murderino
I am that kid that calls for everything. Mom Skyped with me to walk me through making a cake the other day. It‘s increased ever since I bought a house. I‘m surprised I can function on my own. #currentlyreading

I tried to borrow this one earlier today and it wouldn‘t load so I returned it and got ‘The Witches‘. It seems I‘m able to load it and play it now so up next.
I‘ve never listened to the podcast (I‘m not a podcast person 🤷🏻♀️) . I‘ve read and heard mixed things about this one.
We shall see.
#QuotsyMar20 #guide #jealous
Playing catch up on prompts so this one is a two-fer. The #jealous quote is from this book tagged as “The Definitive How-To #Guide” (it‘s on my TBR).
“...if you‘re one of those women who says that you‘ve only had guy friends because you‘re so pretty all women are jealous of you, put this book down and go to therapy immediately. Not only will this chapter confuse you, but you are lying to yourself in a terrible way.”
A humorous look at how the two podcasters got their start. 4.5⭐️
This is the only book I‘ve been able to get through so far this month. Life is so stressful with everything going on. Hope everyone makes smart decisions, stays safe, and keeps their families safe out there ❤️
I devoured this book! Short true crime stories and commentary. I‘m glad I chose the audio version.
1. This photo was taken last week on my 50th birthday in Hawaii.
2. The Fire is Upon Us by James Baldwin.
3. Social plans have been canceled, so reading all weekend and for the next 3 weeks. Schools are closed for 3 weeks @4thhouseontheleft @howjessreads
Tonight‘s #bathnbook has been renamed to #bathnpodcast. My allergies hit hard today and unfortunately has resulted in one of my eyes being almost completely swollen shut. When it‘s not closed, it‘s itchy red and weepy which matches my drippy nose. So I‘m resting my eyes and listening to podcasts. I still can‘t focus on an audiobook to save my life but podcasts work as long as I don‘t fall asleep.
my first audiobook 😳 borrowed from my local library 🤩i‘ve already read the book but it was fun listening to this dual memoir.
i can‘t believe i‘ve gone this long without listening to audiobooks! #gamechanger #murderino #ssdgm

1) English and limited German
2) haven't had one yet
3)hmmm.... I don't think I ate dinner last night (oops) lunch was rather colorful though- bbq pork Mac and a salad (so like 6 or so colors)
4)😂❤😉
I am loving this book, but I knew I would! 😁 I'm so glad I got it for Christmas!!! I hope someday soon I can go to a live show! 😍
Fun, light read to wrap up the MLK weekend.
Starting the long weekend off right and I don‘t plan on leaving the house until at least Sunday!
Snagged this book a while ago on a Kindle daily deal and I‘m excited to finally read it.
Also on the docket this weekend- start posting my reviews for what I‘ve read so far for #NewYearWhoDis.
#weekendreads
1. Current Reads : Stay Sexy and Don‘t Get Murdered. ... The Vanishing Year by Kate Moretti
2. I just finished my first book of 2020. It was A Woman is No Man by Etaf Rum which was a 4 ⭐️
3. I have a few but they all revolve around making reading a priority again
First read of 2020 and so far I‘m thrilled. Last year I read about 25 books. This year I‘d like to double that by setting a goal to read 1 book a week. #bookworm #murderino #2020 #goals
"We barely get any time on this planet. Do not spend it pleasing other people. Fuck politeness. Live life exactly how you want to live it so you can love the life you make for yourself." - Karen Kilgariff
⠀
"I tend to think too much and worry a lot, but reading takes me into a totally different world where there‘s no room for my own bullshit." - Georgia Hardstark
@ReadingRachael - my parcel arrived. Everything is wrapped so beautifully! I cannot wait to open. My daughter loves the moose. He is already on our tree.
@LeahBergen - did you receive your book swap packages from me (via Amazon). I wanted to make sure they arrived.
I don‘t listen to the My Favorite Murder podcast and I do not enjoy true crime, so I was not really the target audience for this book. Like most co-written books full of essays and lists, especially ones trying to be funny, some of them were better than others.
I think I would have enjoyed this more if I had ever heard the podcast. I was expecting more serial killer stories. They had some good advice, but as I am not a fan of them before this their personal stories did not resonate.
Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark, hosts of the wildly popular My Favorite Murder podcast, share personal stories about what led up to the podcast and how it's affected their lives.
Part laugh-out-loud funny, part fist-pumping "heck yeah!", but mostly just two people talking about their experiences in therapy. I enjoyed their perspectives on victim-blaming and Georgia's love of Ray Bradbury, but it wasn't very engaging to me overall.
Audiocooking. I now will forever associate the voice of Karen Kilgariff with the smell of fresh ginger. Homemade curry paste in the works to make some yellow curry soup with black rice once I acquire some black rice. Also featured: my squash stash.

Well, I got in about ten minutes of listening before my ten-year-old said, "Sorry for interrupting you, Mom. I just love talking to you." And suddenly I couldn't enjoy my audiobook. But I did manage to get a photo of the beautiful persimmons I plan to devour during my reading time this weekend.
