100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared
100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared | Jonas Jonasson
The international publishing sensation--over six million copies sold worldwide! A reluctant centenarian much like Forrest Gump (if Gump were an explosives expert with a fondness for vodka) decides it's not too late to start over . . . After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash, some unpleasant criminals, a friendly hot-dog stand operator, and an elephant (not to mention a death by elephant). It would be the adventure of a lifetime for anyone else, but Allan has a larger-than-life backstory: Not only has he witnessed some of the most important events of the twentieth century, but he has actually played a key role in them. Starting out in munitions as a boy, he somehow finds himself involved in many of the key explosions of the twentieth century and travels the world, sharing meals and more with everyone from Stalin, Churchill, and Truman to Mao, Franco, and de Gaulle. Quirky and utterly unique, " The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared" has charmed readers across the world.

I liked this to be honest. But it wasn‘t my favourite read and it‘s taken me a while to finish. I enjoyed the storyline and finding out about Allan‘s life. “You‘re never too old for an adventure”. I‘ll try and remember that one!

This book is not only great fun, it‘s also easy to pick up and put down. Perfect for holidays and other busy periods where your attention might be diverted. It's like a European Forrest Gump, but better! It's now my number one recommendation for a delightful cheer-up read, my go-to for when I need a smile. Remember in the movie Forrest Gump where he appeared (usually unintentionally) in pictures depicting national and world events over several decades? This story follows the same trajectory. While the impetus is the escape through the window and the ensuing chase by authorities, most of the story reminiscences about Alan's life and his involvement (usually by accident) in significant events. Entertaining and humorous as an #audiobook. 3.5/5 ⭐

This was okay. It has a Forrest Gump vibe in that the MC meets famous people and finds himself in tricky situations related to them. But most are related to crime or war or the military and war/military books are just not my thing at all. The book drones on about irrelevant things at times. The characters are, however, quite well written and there‘s lots of tongue-in-cheek humor. ⭐️⭐️✨ #Audible

This hilarious book charts the adventures of a 100-year-old man who decides that the quality of life, not chronological age, defines a person. Set in a sedate town in Sweden, this wily centagenerian decides to slip out of the window of his nursing home. Carrying a suitcase stuffed with cash he thrust headlong into a great cast of characters and a myriad of adventures, both new and remembered. The story made me laugh out loud!

This was a cute book, about Allen who escapes his nursing home through a window. He meets new friends who he gets in and out of trouble with.
You also get to know what he did for his life leading up to his age of 100.

If your the kind of person who needs a book to focus on, this one is very clever. A lot of work has gone into the writing and research for the storyline. I stuck with it, but it made my head tired. I'm perhaps not quite the intended audience for it!!

This was my #mmdchallenge #bookyouvebeenmeaningtoread . It‘s that book that just kept getting pushed to the bottom of the TBR even though I was looking forward to it. And, it now wins for my least favorite book I‘ve read in 2019. It was just. So. Stupid. Utter ridiculousness. I loved this hilarious tale about the unbelievable adventures of a Swede with a laissez-faire attitude, an allergy to politics, a penchant for vodka, and a talent for blowing things up. It‘s a totally absurd story and a wild way to explore history as the 100-year-old man in question unwittingly shapes the course of it, but the characters are lovable and I can count on only one hand how many times I‘ve laughed so hard at a book.
