so-soNot the best thing ever, nor the worst. It felt uneven, and the last section…meh. I get why it‘s there, but I didn‘t care for it. I didn‘t hate this, might recommend it for specific readers, but I wouldn‘t read it again and I wouldn‘t expend effort looking for others by this author.
so-soThe last 50 pages were the best part. The plot was supposed to be interesting, I wasn‘t intrigued, and the characters were annoying and cliché. The romance between the two main characters was not developed well. It tried to be an enemies to lovers, yet the moment she saw him they basically fell in love. I wanted absolutely zero infatuation at first, make it realistic. 3.5/10 because I‘ve read worse.

pick4.7⭐️ this was my Beauty and the Beast retelling for February‘s #fairytalereading. I love how this retelling is just a little bit darker. If you have ever seen Wishmaster, there‘s a similar vibe without the Jinn. Can‘t believe I‘ve let this one sit on my shelf for years without picking it up. panThis book.. I have so many things I could say about this book, but most of all I wish I could have read it at a younger age. I was slightly disappointed. There was barely any dialogue so it was difficult to get to know the characters and the main character had two cases of “insta love” within only a few chapters.
pick😭 I'm supposed to be sleeping for work tonight, but I could not put this down. I really enjoyed this Beauty and the Beast retelling, though is it Beauty and the Beast? Because there were others mythology weaved in. The world-building was interesting and never felt like it was dumping info on me. Definately looking into Hodge's other books!

pickI liked it. The overall story is amazing but parts seemed rushed for no real reason. But I loved that the characters were flawed in a real way and not just a she didn‘t know she was beautiful way they try to pull off as a flaw.
pick5/5 for this awesome dark retelling! This Beauty and the Beast retelling was so much darker than I expected. I loved every minute of it. Nyx is a flawed and wonderful character. Her strained relationship with Ignifex makes this story so interesting. I highly recommend this one.

The first time I tried reading this book years ago, I ended up DNFing it, and now I remember why. The premise of the book is so promising, but the actual plot itself is confusing and by the time I reached the final pages, I didn‘t know what it all meant. Certain parts of the book were rushed and most of the characters were unlikeable. Overall, this book was alright and enjoyable at times, but I‘m not sure if I would read it again.
so-soUmmmm in a world where this exists and so does The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller, 10/10 I‘d pick Shadows. HOWEVER, this was definitely interesting and I yelled a lot more than I anticipated (sorry bestie for the 13 different voice memos of me shrieking). I‘m still yelling to the echoes of my house WHAT DOES IT MEAN to no avail. I don‘t think I‘ll ever fully understand but this was still a journey I‘m glad I took.

pickYou know what‘s lame about reading ebooks? The photos I take of them. I thought I‘d fallen out of the YA groove never to return but this one was unputdownable. It‘s a twist on Beauty and the Beast and I am a sucker for Beaty and the Beast. Nyx Triskelion was raised to both marry and destroy the demon that rules her world, but there‘s more to him than meets the eye, of course. Nyx is a believable conflicted heroine and this is a great read!

pickNyx grew up knowing she had one mission: destroying the Gentle Lord. For that, she must marry him.
Easy read. Good story, bad ending. The end could have been shorter - or wiser to follow the rest of the book; the last “riddle” to solve seemed to appear out of nowhere and to be solved very randomly. I enjoyed the wicked characters, the humor, and the writing style. Some of the revelations are easier to guess than others, but it did not bother me.
I am guessing this is my #littlechristmasgiftexchange @bookish_wookish I do not know from who but thank you. I love both of them. Maleficent is my favorite character of all time. And the book I‘ve wanted to read for awhile.

pickAfter thoroughly enjoying Bright Smoke, Cold Fire, I looked up more Rosamund Hodge, because she writes my favorite micro-genre so well! (Fairy-tale and Shakespeare retellings.) Cruel Beauty was another gorgeous, lyrical tale that puts an entirely different spin on Beauty and the Beast. Excited to dig into Crimson Bound (Little Red Riding Hood, I think) next!
