I read this one with my daughter because of the reference in You‘ve Got Mail. I wanted to love it more than I did. It‘s about three orphans, Pauline, Petrova, and Posy, adopted by a world explorer. As they grow up, they develop an interest in ballet, acting, and flying. None of the girls were particularly endearing, coming across as spoiled or petulant most of the time. I am curious if anyone else has continued the series, does it get better?

1. Nadia Comaneci, the gymnast. I‘d watch the movie of the same name over and over again and dream of getting perfect scores. I have gone on to do that twice so far in my ballet exams. Once as a 12 year old and as a 41 year old. 2. I am a dancer which is similar. 3. Classical. Due to the hours and hours of ballet I do a week. I love screaming girl music though. This Easter school holidays I finally get to see Amyl and the Sniffers live in concert.

I‘ve been using GoodReads (via Google, I don‘t actually use my GR account) to try to find readalikes for the kiddo - who recently had four librarians all in the MG section trying to find her something she hasn‘t read yet.

Well, I lost some confidence in the GR recs when this came up for the tagged book (her favorite of all time). I…don‘t think I‘ll pass this rec on to her.

I kind of feel like a monster for bailing on this one because I know it‘s it‘s well loved classic. Like many other people, this book landed on my TBR after its mention in You‘ve Got Mail. I think if I had actually read it as a child, it may have held the same magic it seems to have for others. But at 30% in, it‘s just not for me. #AllHailTheBail #33by33 #NovelNovember

I took a lot of things from the peak ‘90s movie You‘ve Got Mail — and one of them was that Noel Streatfeild‘s Ballet Shoes was Kathleen Kelly‘s favorite book and that I therefore would/should love it, too. 🙌 In the process of preparing for Episode 124 of my podcast, I got to discover my *true* feelings about it! Seven books that left a deep impression on me and changed me.

Stopped at a bookstore before picking up my youngest from preschool and found this beautiful gem. Can't wait to read it to my girls. 😊🥰

Another read for a prompt. This one was harder to find because I don't really admire a lot of celebrities, and very few recommend many books. I went with Rowling. I actually think I read this at some point after seeing You've Got Mail.

My favorite #tinydancer themed book. I was disconcerted to look on goodreads and see a series of “shoes” books that I know did not exist in the 70‘s- (I think there were 3-4 originally) and discovered many of The authors books had been retitled to create a “series” in the 2000‘s. #marchintothe70s

A night at the ballet - Two Feet by Meryl Tankard (Natalia Osipova dancing) was extraordinary. Feeling lucky to have seen it. I‘m not getting enough reading time this month with the Adelaide Festival on! 😜👯‍♀️

Apparently my gf‘s favourite childhood book, so I guess I‘ll have to read and find out why.

Great Uncle Matthew (aka GUM) has #goneaway, leaving his charges Pauline, Petrova, and Posy enough money to last five years. When he doesn't return and the funds run out, the Fossil girls start training in hopes of eventually earning $$ as dancers. 👩‍👧‍👧👯

At the end of “You‘ve Got Mail”, when she‘s coming to terms with losing her store and she‘s sitting in the middle of Fox Books, she recommends these books. Found this is one of our used shipments yesterday and snapped it right up!!

Day 5 of the #snowpocalypse and between keeping my increasingly fractious children busy I have managed to reread this childhood favourite. I'd forgotten about the message from my aunt so that was a nice surprise ♥️

Took my mini to her first dance lesson today and my thoughts turned to this classic book. I loved the tale of the three Fossil sisters ("he collected us instead of them") and their adventures trying to raise money on the stage. Can't wait to read it to my proto ballerina in a few years.

What books do you love to share with children in your life?

I really enjoyed this #audiobook. It had been on my to-read list since the movie came out around ten years ago. I loved how the narrator‘s British accent really brought the characters‘ voices to life. So much of the story reminds me of Little Women. I think this will definitely be a book I share with any future daughters I have.

Truth. I can still picture that red naked hardback copy of Ramona Quimby that I would check out over and over from our school library in 3rd grade in 1983.

This was a solid “meh” for me. I read it out loud to my seven-year-old daughter. (She gave it three stars too.) It‘s an older tale about three adopted sisters and their guardians. I found it to be slow going without a lot of plot. I did like enjoy some of the scenes, especially the behind the scenes in the theatre bits. And I liked some of the messages about family and girl power. Have you read this one? What did you think?

First night on holiday and I reread this old favourite. Often I find rereading MG books that you can‘t recapture the magic - but this time I did! I think the illustrations I knew and loved helped - I‘ll never forget those organza dresses and wanting to be Alice in Wonderland.

I loved Flashdance! Could not find any related books, but another favourite in a more classical vein was Ballet Shoes. My father-in-law gave my daughter this beautiful Folio edition. 💃 #whatafeeling #augustgrrrl

Bella (6) often struggles with chapter books but she let me read to the end of this, which speaks for itself in terms of her star rating for this book! It's a little dated but still charming. She loved the references to A Midsummer Night's Dream in part due to her life long love of Ella Bella Ballerina ❤️ #raisingreaders

Not #asseenontv but this afternoons reading brought to you by the longest recital ever. But it was a great show and my niece did great despite missing dress rehearsal because of her orchestra concert.

?Watching my sweet niece dance was pure magic for me today. My heart is full of pride and respect for her. She was such a trooper and was the youngest member that performed.
