Creepy and atmospheric. The last half fell flat for me and I wasn‘t a fan of the sudden, unexplained ending.
This was actually better than I was expecting (not that I didn‘t think I‘d like it but I just didn‘t have particularly high expectations). It was creepy and unsettling and the ending was TWISTED! I will say that it was somewhat repetitive and the fact that the big secret was known by everyone in the town but our main character was pretty far fetched. But still a decent scary story! 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Read in 2nd week of October
It has mixed reviews but I liked it not loved it. After Jane‘s father died she moved with her mother to the North‘s Manor, a house Ruth, inherited. Jane started to hear noises but her mother said is because is an old house, abandoned for 2 years. But then she started to see things. Something happened in Halloween in that house. So many secrets behind those locked doors. The end is so creepy. 3/3.4⭐️
I couldn‘t put it down, but the ending left me completely unsatisfied. Mental illness, ghosts, or a traumatic past coming back to haunt the entire town? It was delightfully creepy throughout. Pretty predictable plot. I‘d recommend it if you‘re looking for something fun and don‘t want to think much. #TeamMonsterMash #Scarathlon #Scarathlon2022
Book 108🎧 3.5⭐️
A solid creepy haunted house story with some strange family secrets👏🏻
Lots of book eating 🍽
It took awhile to process this book. I still am not sure what to think about it. I rounded up because it does it's job with being creepy and weird. It starts off with Jane eating her books when she's upset. The author did a great job at toeing the line of is Jane having a "breakdown" or if there really is something horrid happening in that house. If I would have had time I probably would have read this one all at once because I had to know.
Definitely the weirdest opening I've read in a long time
My nephew asked to go to the library today so that's what we did. I grabbed this one for myself
I really liked this YA horror novel. The #audiobook was hard to pause. I actually did an extra hour of #audiostitching at the end. I love this cover. A teen moves to a creepy house in Maine with her mum following the father's death.

9/52: Horrid
Super exciting book, I finished this in a day because I couldn‘t put it down. I thought the ending was ironic yet it felt unfinished.

Mental illness or a ghost? This story never really seems to come to a conclusion of either and you are left wondering, I found the storyline quite predictable, feeling like I was one step ahead of the protagonist all the way through.
The ending was terrible, with nothing wrapped up and no questions answered.
The cover art is beautiful, the story was okay but I felt it was unfinished with a very abrupt ending!
Thank you for my #creepychristmas swap @Littlewolf1 loved the journal and pens, and looking forward to reading these two!
Thanks for hosting @teebe Merry Christmas all!

Oooh what a good one! It reads like Turn of the Screw- as in it‘s never quite clear if it‘s a supernatural force or not. My interpretation is, yeah, ghost shenanigans. But if anyone has a differing read I‘d love to hear it.

Joining book challenges on Litsy has really pushed me to read more so far. I've been getting into the Fall/Halloween mood lately so I think this #readathon is perfect.
#SpookOWeen readathon is hosted by @TheSpineView
It is low key so may goal is to read 2 spooky books from my massive TBR pile along with listening to 2 audiobooks.
The books I have pictured are just some I am looking at.
I didn't really connect with this book. I didn't mind the beginning but it really lost me as I kept going. I didn't feel connected to the characters, there were creepy moments but it was really confusing. I felt like it was obvious what was going on, but then nothing was wrapped up. I just felt like there should have been more explanation. There were too many things left unsaid. 2/5

Distubia meet Horrid, where a disturbed high school teen thinks the house is out to get her.
Meh, parts of this were creepy, but I found the end to be really disappointing.
The cover art is the best this about this book. Horrid is actually the best word to describe it. If I hadn't listened to the audiobook, I would have bailed pretty quickly. The OVER DESCRIPTION of everything was so irritating: 'she looked at the roses that glimmered in the moonlight like..... she felt a cool breeze like a....' everything had a comparison and it got old really fast. It was a chore to get through this book.

Also working my way through this Audio book. I love this cover art. #summerreading

There was so much potential in this book, but the ending was too rushed and left too many open-ended questions.
It's a fast read about a haunted house that has its creepy moments. The mom and daughter I found annoying though and never fully invested in their characters.
Overall, it was just okay, nothing special.
Can I interest you in:
•a spooky ya
•girls with anger issues, eating things that cannot be eaten
•a beautiful cover
•overall atmospheric story with a little messed up family?
Look no further, this is your book. Seriously read it, even if ya isn‘t your cup of tea.
I haven't finished a book in one sitting in a loooooong time. About 3/4 of the way done with this one and planning on a late night to finish it. So good!
Between a so-so and a pick for me, but I‘ll go with pick since it‘s not the book‘s fault that I don‘t usually read YA.
I jumped on it from some random book list, but I no longer remember what list. If you like books about books, this will definitely work for you tho! 📖
A quick read with some decent creepy haunted house vibes. The end fell off a little for me, but otherwise not bad.
And that cover! I‘m feeling the cover 🥀
Hovering between a pick and so so for me. I don't relate to high school girls attending class or sneaking alcohol in flasks but otherwise a creepy haunted house story. All families have secrets, some are just known to entire towns and not individuals who show up to start a new life. Overall, a fairly decent story with a nice little twist at the end.
I had high hopes for this but I found out the hard way that it's YA... I'm a hard sell on high school friendships and time spent in an actual school. Aside from that, it's not terrible... I'm interested to see the how the haunted house aspect plays out.
This book was a good haunted house story. It definitely had a lot of spooky atmosphere. I finished it in one sitting. The ending was a little abrupt, but overall it was a fun read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was better than expected! It gave me nice chills and the insights into Janes confused my were neat as well. It's a typical horror house, small-town story, but I still think it's well done by the author. Oh, and the cover of course...!
#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
The tagged book is definitely a “it‘s not you, it‘s me.” Not my genre, not my preferred type of story. I normally would‘ve DFN‘d it, but it was my #bookspin book for October & I wanted to finish it.

I‘ve seen a bunch of positive reviews for this one but I wasn‘t a fan. I found Jane unlikeable and found the plot disturbing and creepy, but not scary. There were a couple WTF moments, but I was left with a lot of questions and the ending was unsatisfactory. Honestly, the most horrifying part of the book was Jane‘s book-eating obsession due to her serious anger issues.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Horrid definitely had a dark, creepy vibe when you read it. Jane was an interesting character. The house definitely had character too. I enjoyed the story, but I felt like the ending was abrupt and rushed.

Devoured this haunted YA thriller in two days but still processing my thoughts on the ending. Maybe the most abrupt ending I've ever read. So much so that I flipped the page expecting the next chapter to find out what happened only to see... acknowledgements. I love an open ended book as much as the next gal but this was too extreme for my taste. Still despite that and despite broadcasting most of the 'twists,' I still really enjoyed most of it.
In the middle of multiple books I need to finish so obviously immediately diving into a new library hold that came in 😅

2. PSL, but sadly Starbucks Japan doesn‘t have it.
3. 🤷🏼♀️ None of my current stack of library books have a fall aesthetic cover.
Here are my collected updates for the Halloween challenges I'm doing:
For #Screamathon I've finished four books
For #BookSpinBingo I've got five books, including my #BookSpin
For #FallBackIntoReading I've only managed one - but more are to come!
My score for #Scarathlon2020 is 308 for #TeamSlaughter
I wish I could contribute more, but I guess I'm not that good in those point collection games... 😞

Finished my first #BookSpin for October! Horrid is the first horror novel I‘ve read and can I just say I absolutely loved it and couldn‘t put it down, except for when I needed to sleep before school the next morning. Also this is book 20/25 for 2020. @TheAromaofBooks
I finished this one over a week ago I think but haven't had time to post at all. I didn't like the title of this book, or the cover too much, for some reason, but really enjoyed the read! A spooky story for sure and the ending left me with my mouth hanging open! A great book for this time of year. And I really liked the full under the dust jacket cover illustration you see at the bottom of the picture collage.
