I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Its plot was quite unusual and could divide readers into loving or hating it. However, I found myself completely immersed in the story and unable to put it down as it became more surreal. I stumbled upon a review that used the term 'black licorice' to describe this type of book, which I thought was quite clever.

Headed to Book Club! We‘ll be discussing Bright Young Women — and we‘re tasked with bringing two other books, one to swap & one as a donation to a local Little Free Library. 📚

4.2⭐️ I got to admit… This book was better than I thought I was going to be. What‘s crazy is I could not figure it out at all, yet I felt like I knew exactly what was going on. However, I‘m still confused on what was real and what wasn‘t. It was good. I liked it. This was book #19 for #Roll100

Psychedelic fever dream from start to finish.

Cashed out my PangoBucks before the holidays. Bottom two are for me, the tagged will be gifted at my in person book club at the end of the month as it‘s one of my absolute faves and I‘m not parting with my hardcover signed copy. 😂🫣😭

I read this book in one evening, I had to know where it was going.
I ended up Googling what other readers interpreted from the ending as it was a little confusing.
I felt sorry for Samantha for most of the book. She seemed so lonely and lost. The Bunnies were all very intriguing.
This is the type of book you only need to read once, but I would maybe recommend it to someone if they wanted to read an out of the box book.

I have decided to try my hand at the #Roll100 again this year. Since I didn‘t get a lot of my books read last year, I‘m using the same list, just change the ones that I had accomplished.

I just started this book, but my recollection of grad school is not cliques like the Bunnies. No one had time for that; we were all too busy with classes, theses, and dissertations. Those of us with grad assistantships especially had no time for that. We‘ll see. So far it seems a weird little book but I‘m not opposed to weird if it‘s a good story.

I read this because everyone said it was weird and I wanted to know why. And guess what? It was weird.
She's in a cult. But also, in a graduate program. Also, lonely. Also, living in a very scary city. I'm not sure how it ended? But I know it ended.
I mildly hated the writing style.
I almost DNFd this 50% through because I found out why it was weird. But... I... couldn't stop?

Don't read it. But also read it. Idk.

At first I couldn't figure out what the hell I was reading, but when I figured it out, I realized that I love this novel. It's an interesting look at the reasons people enter into creative pursuits, the way that the need to belong and to be seen can create monsters as well as things of beauty, the lengths people will go to to feel less alone, and how the people with the most recognition aren't always those with the most talent.

So I had previously DNF‘d this, but I was in the mood for something strange and decided to give it another chance. This time I listened to the audiobook, and that made this extremely bizarre story unfold for me. I honestly don‘t completely know what was going all the time. However, this is a savage exploration of snobby academia. There is so many little details that could be discovered on reread as well.⬇️

This was bonkers, and I kinda loved it.

Awad is a fantastic writer. You'd have to be to make the events of this book feel in ANY way plausible.

Bunny is bitchy, hallucinogenic, original, creepy, full of 90s cliché and poetic pastiche. Loosely dark academia, but would be better placed in the surreal horror section.

The whole thing reads like a psychedelic dream that could be feminist or misogynistic depending how you read it!

I finished up Bunny before I left home. What a strange creepy story! I liked it!

Did anyone else while reading this want to call everyone around them “Bunny”? I was calling Sietje and the cats that, and saying it while talking to myself. 😆

College cliques can be kind of culty, and I loved the way Awad took it in a somewhat witchy supernatural direction. I‘ll definitely read her next book!

Points for imagination and random reference drops. I like books that mention things in a wild range like Citizen Kane and Sid Vicious. It limits the audience that will understand but for those that do it is cool.
I struggled with how wildly fever dream it is and how much animal abuse. I can see why people would hate the book, you have to be prepared for dark and weird.

When your buddy read partner at work is a generation younger than you. You get introduced to books you would never try. Sometimes it‘s a win. (My Dark Vanessa) Sometimes you are a good camper and finish the book to be polite. Thank god for the Libby App- you can listen on double speed.

My daughter gave me a buddy read for Mother‘s Day. We chose this book off of her TBR. It has a Heather‘s vibe and kept me guessing.

I'm now reading Bunny by Mona Awad and am almost done with it!! The story takes place in college where a girl named Samantha becomes sucked into this cultish group of girls called the Bunnies and along the way she slowly disregards her only friend Ava. I havent loved a book this much in a while since I relate to a lot of the feelings the main character feels. If you love weird and disorienting books this is for you.

Got to 16%. A bit too trippy and quite pretentious. To me the writing style is like a Picasso, kind of disjointed and surreal but artistic. Hard to follow.

Bunny is a book that is horror and at the same time comedy. The author uses satire and sarcastic writing to bring a humorous light into the moments of horror in this book. It's written in the present tense by the main character(first person perspective). The author also uses a lot of repetition to familiarize the reader with jokes they can feel in sighted on too.

It‘s not bad or even that disturbing - yet - just weird & feels like nothing is happening.
But I‘m still going to go to book club to hear what ppl think!

a book fairy gifted me this! I hope it‘s good!!

Awad is a great writer but Bunny goes to a place where reality & fantasy are so intertwined that it becomes difficult to sort it all out. I thought the big reveal would be that all are in an insane asylum but alas, no. Instead we are expected to drop our concept of reality & just go with it. Specks of Tart‘s A Secret History, Pinborough‘s Behind Her Eyes & Michaelides‘The Maidens are here but just not as rewarding as these classics.

Had such a lovely day with a friend today, and we picked up some books! It was nice to recommend some to her as she wants to get back into reading again, and I picked up Bunny because one of my favourite YouTubers ranked it so highly!😊

I don‘t think I‘ll ever look at rabbits the same way again, just like I‘ll never see tutus in the same light after The Library at Mount Char. To me, though, a book‘s ability to take a perfectly ordinary object and imbue it with a twisted and creepily bizarre new meaning is a wondrous thing and I love it! I haven‘t run across too many of them, but books that simultaneously captivate and befuddle me are right up my alley, and this does both!

I know this book isn‘t everyone‘s cup of tea but I adored it. Can‘t wait for this to be Gen Z‘s “Heathers” / “Mean Girls”. 🐰

If any book could have lured me into reading a dark academia book it is would have been this one. I absolutely loved the writing. But I left third level education twenty years ago. The crushes and the cliques and the imposter syndrome are so far in my past that it makes me feel a hundred years old. So I DNF'd.

But a great writer and I'm sure it's a great book and I wish her well in all her endeavours.

Just started this but already captivated by the writing! ❤️
