Yes, it‘s still absolutely magical! Really loved the book the second time as well! Peter May is a truly gifted writer, and I love this trilogy, which will have a fourth book added to it in September. Highly recommended, brilliant storytelling 🥰

Rereading this one, because the trilogy is getting a fourth book in September. So weird, I know I loved the book the first time I read it, but can honestly say I remember nothing at all from it, except the island 🫣🤷🏼🕵🏼😳
When do we start reading? The fourth one will be published in September. Can‘t wait! @Andrew65
Starting The Blackhouse while Nicky and I take a respite from the heat.
Liked this book as it gives back story of characters and incidents that are referred to in the second book The Lewis Man, which I read first. Love this trilogy, too bad it is only a trilogy and not more Fin Macleod books coming.
This riveting novel is set on the beautiful Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides,& a remote, desolate spit of a rock off its coast,An Sgeir. One can feel the biting cold, the ferocious wind,& sea storms‘ tangy salt thru the vivid & descriptive language. After 20 yrs,DI Fin MacLeod is summoned back from Glasgow to the island to investigate a murder.Fin‘s traumatic childhood & self protective”memory loss”has him leery of revisiting & reconnecting 🔽
Em tried shoving this book off my lap, sat on it, & now it seems she has reconciled herself to sharing my attention. #catsoflitsy #EmEm #catsandbooks

#Pantone2023
First of a trilogy, this murder mystery is riveting, with the dramatic setting in the Isle of Lewis in Scotland's Outer Hebrides. We are introduced to detective and native islander Fin Macleod ; rich characters and narration.
My current read totally counts as a series read (book 4 in the Gray Man series).
Black House is for #Booked2023 as part of a trilogy.
I feel really excited for these two selections and am sure I'll start the year with both of my bingo reads, read.

Combining days 1 & 2. My favorite read from January was The Bookshop of Second Chances. Favorite from February was The Blackhouse, which is the first of a trilogy, and a 5 ⭐️ read. Loved the whole series! (Introduced to me by @EadieB - thanks Eadie!)

Simply love the work of Peter May and there is none better than the Lewis Trilogy. A great all round trilogy, if you haven‘t read it you must. The tagged book is the first book in the trilogy.

It took a few chapters for me to get into this fan favorite thriller, but once I did I couldn‘t put it down. I loved reading about the setting and getting a sense of life on the Scottish Island of Lewis. Immediately starting book 2 in the series!
Thanks, @Readergrrl for the #LMPBC addition. Your book will be in the mail back to you tomorrow. 💌
1. Sherlock Holmes and Ruth Galloway
2. I love trying to solve the mystery before the ending but also love it when there‘s a twist ending I didn‘t see coming.
3. Black House by Peter May
Excellent! A murder mystery, steeped in a fascinating back story of growing up on The Isle of Lewis, Scotland. The island is almost a character in this twisty, dark, fast-paced novel. The first in the Isle of Lewis series, I can‘t wait to read the next book! Thanks @EadieB for introducing me to this series! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
This was my #doublespin for February. Finished it just in time! @TheAromaofBooks
#weekendreading #20in4readathon #sharreadsreadathon
I am aiming to finish The Blackhouse for this Readathon, so I will probably be reading it all weekend. I‘m also in the middle of The Keeper of Lost Things.
We were out last night later than we‘ve been out in YEARS. Today will be a day for laying about and reading all day. (Thankfully, not hungover because we were smart. 🤣🍻)
The Blackhouse is excellent! Great storytelling.
I‘ve reached the halfway point of my book club book, which is where we were to stop for discussion. So, I‘m picking up my #doublespin book for February, gifted to me by the lovely and so thoughtful @EadieB ❤️📚
#SundaySoapbox
Blackhouse is Book 1 of The Lewis Trilogy which is excellent. The ending of this book was a complete surprise! the 3rd book, The Chessmen, also has a shocking ending!
4.7⭐️ this was such a good book with a lot of interesting twist. By the end, the killer made absolute sense, though I was unable to figure it out. There are definitely some triggers to watch out for, but overall an excellent read. I look forward to continuing this trilogy.
I really enjoyed this round of #LMPBC 📚 This was an engrossing, while at times uncomfortable, read but one I enjoyed nonetheless. I couldn‘t put it down! I‘ll get this one in the mail tomorrow!!

Set on the Isle of Lewis, this suspenseful novel follows a detective from Edinburgh as he returns to his childhood home in search of a possible serial killer. Once there, he discovers that the past has a way of digging its way back into his life and that all he remembers is not as it seems and that he may have been (see below)

I accidentally deleted my original post! Oops!!
The epitome of #BlackandWhite covers for me has to be The Lewis Trilogy by Peter May. Also one of my favourite ever trilogies, and one of the most jaw dropping moments in reading for me in The Chess Men.
Very highly recommended.
#curiouscovers @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
Good read. Gritty, against the beautiful scenic backdrop of Lewis. This forst book gives you all you need to know about the protagonist for future reads.
Book 1 of the Lewis trilogy. Fin returns to his childhood town as part of an investigation into a murder that is similar to one he is investigating in Edinburgh. We get the story of his childhood and the trauma he faced in a series of flashbacks interspersed with current day. This is a great beginning to this trilogy. Thank you @EadieB for sharing!

Took a bit of getting into and I found it quite hard work.
#StartASeries Wonderfully atmospheric although I could have done without the 50 pages of bird hunting. This was more of a character study than a procedural but I‘m looking forward to the next 2.
This is likely my final read for the year. Faves coming up!
I found it hard to get deeply involved in the story and then suddenly I had finished it! A bit too descriptive for me but I really enjoyed the story!
#TBRPile 📚 My Dad recommended these - we both love a good tartan noir 🏴 Saving these for when I feel a wee bit homesick. Sometimes I (briefly) miss the cold and the wet and the long dark nights of winter. Winter in the tropics is just not the same.
Good mystery. A little slow but engaging enough to keep us listening to the audio on a long days drive. Looking forward to the next in the series.
Congratulations on your milestone, Karen! I must be “dying” for the tagged book as I‘ve listed it several times on my TBR. 🤣

Day 12 of #20series20days
I can thank @Andrew65 for introducing me to this phenomenal mystery series (does a trilogy count as a series? 🤔). Each book is better then the next. Great mysteries, great characters, amazing setting in the Outer Hebrides. Peter May hit it out if the park!
Day 8 of #20series20days takes us to the Hebrides!
The Blackhouse
The Lewis Man
The Chessmen
Also Coffin Road which isn‘t formally part of the series but takes place in the same setting and involves the cop who worked with Fin McLeod in the other books.

Peter May and his Lewis Trilogy is another favorite series of mine.
I loved my first Peter May read! Such an atmospheric setting with complex characters and relationships that the murder mystery almost takes a backseat. I would not have picked this up if not for #Booked2020 #tartannoir. I‘m glad I did!
#BookReport - Finished 4 books this week. One was eh but the other 3 were great.
I have 2 audiobooks in progress and The City We Became from the library due back by 7/7.
#WeeklyForecast - We are going on a trip to NH for the 4th, so not sure which books I‘ll take with me. Have to start and finish the Girl Who Smiled Beads so I can finish up the Spring prompts for #Booked2020
I‘m so glad I gave this book another try! I tried it in March and couldn‘t get into it. Then I saw reviews on Litsy so tried it again and I couldn‘t put it down. I liked flashing back to Fin‘s childhood. Damn he went through a lot! I didn‘t care for all the bird killing talk, but I understood why it was in there. Such a great mystery. I‘ll definitely continue with this series.
#SummerFun - Set near water

#15Books15Weeks
This was my #TartanNoir for #Booked2020 and I am so glad! I probably never would have read it on my own, and I loved it.
The murder is gruesome (ickiest postmortem I‘ve read for years), the detective character is so well developed, the backstory is rich, the mystery and secrets are perfectly laid out, the descriptions of the Isle of Lewis are vivid—the writing overall is fantastic. It‘s dark, brutal and lovely.
Will read the others!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
One of my most favorite authors! He‘s a wonderful storyteller! He is telling about how he got started as a writer!
I thought you would be interested - Peter May is live on FB:

Book 6 of #7Books7Days of books that profoundly affected me. Peter May‘s description of The Isle of Lewis made me want to visit that area of Scotland. His books are mostly crime novels crafted in a way that you very rarely can guess who do it! All of May‘s books are page-turners!
I picked this one up to fulfill the Tartan Noir prompt for #Booked2020. It sounded interesting and I thought some dark suspense would be a nice distraction. I'm about half way through and thus far this reads more like a drama about a man coming home juxtaposed with a coming of age tale. Where's the suspense? The murder is more like a tertiary storyline at this point. Does it get more suspense/thriller-ish?
Currently rereading Afterimage by Helen Humphreys, and trying to stay interested in the tagged for #Booked2020 - Tartan Noir
My last couple picks have been rereads, and I'm finding it extremely comforting to revisit books I loved years ago.
Cooking, baking, and luxuriously long showers.

I've never enjoyed reading on my phone, but I'm thankful for it now! Line up at the grocery store, but I'm able to jump on their WiFi and read some more Tartan Noir for #Booked2020! #smallblessings

I liked this audiobook; the narration is great as is the narrator's accent. Good descriptions of the Outer Hebrides. Interesting storyline.
