Firefly Lane: Firefly Lane 1
Firefly Lane: Firefly Lane 1 | Kristin Hannah
It is 1974 and the summer of love is finally drawing to a close. Kate Mularkey has accepted her place at the bottom of the secondary school social food chain. Then, to her amazement, the 'coolest girl in the world', Tully Hart moves in across the street and wants to be her best friend. Tully and Kate became inseparable and by summer's end they made a pact to be 'best friends forever'. For thirty years Tully and Kate buoy each other through life, weathering the storms of friendship, jealousy, anger, hurt and resentment. Tully will follow her ambition to find fame and success. Kate knows that all she wants is to fall in love and have a family. What she doesn't know is how being a wife and a mother will change her.

So many emotions with this one. Covered over three decades and I feel like I read three books in one. I have no clue what part two of this series will be about since there was so much here but I look forward to finding out ✌️❤️

OMG AMAZING BOOK!!!
479 pages. I felt like she really explained each character so well. 30 year friendship. How she explained every detail and feeling. Need more books from her!

So heartwarming and heartbreaking all at once. I love stories about friendship, and this was a full lifetime of it. A few too many Hallmark-y moments for my personal tastes, but overall a definite Pick. Bring tissues with this one!

I wasn't keeping exact track as I forgot about the #24b42020 readathon, so I'm going to estimate 2 hours so far today and do it a little more proper for the rest!

I enjoyed this book. Several times throughout it I was ugly crying, especially at the end. The only problem I had with it was that I felt as if it was a knock off of Beaches. Nevertheless, it was a touching story. Some have criticized the characters as two dimensional, but I disagree. I think their flaws and weaknesses made them relatable.

Kristin Hannah continues to amaze me with her stories. This didn't really sound like that interesting of a story but thought I'd give a read anyway. Such a great story of 2 friends surviving adolescence and teenage years during the 70s and 80s ( I could relate) and their continued life long friendship and everything that goes with it, family, careers, change, betrayal and forgiveness. I ordered the next book before finishing this one! 👍👍

Main thoughts on this story: how long can a friendship between women last and women's life lasting struggle to maintain balance between family and career

There‘s a lot of truth here about long friendships b/t women, how they change as we do, yet in some ways stay so constant. I appreciated the honesty about the main characters‘ flaws & mistakes. But both Tully & Kate often went beyond flawed into just straight up shitty or aggravating, & the tone could be fairly heavy-handed & a bit Lifetime Movie-ish at times. Still an overall enjoyable read, including fun/cringey memories of 80s fashion 😆 3/5 ⭐️

[Sidenote: Kristin Hannah really loves the semicolon. I‘m on page 268 and I‘m pretty sure there‘s been at least that many semicolons.]

I‘ve only read one of Kristin Hannah‘s books (The Nightingale, of course) and I‘ve been meaning to pick up another ever since. This one sounds very promising—I do love a good “complex female friendship over many years” story! #nowreading

Definitely a tear jerker. Following Kate and Tully's story and friendship was fun and sad and entertaining. The mother daughter relationships that are explored felt real and raw. I hear there is a sequel to this book and I'm very curious about it. I thought things wrapped up neatly, if not happily, so I wonder about the angle the sequel takes. Kristin Hannah did it again. The emotional rollercoaster she puts you on is heartfelt and painful.

Firefly Lane is taking me longer than I expected it to. Two of my kids were home sick from school yesterday, but they're feeling better today, so more reading time for me! I'm hoping to finish soon because my local library called and said they have Finale by Stephanie Garber for me. Since it's a newer book it's a 14 day loan and I still need to read Legendary before I can complete the series with Finale.

I picked this up a while ago & then put it down to read something else, because I knew it was going to be sad & I wasn't quite ready for something heavy at the time. Like most of Hannah's stuff I've read, it's a moving story of lifelong friends of Katie & Tully and the different directions their lives take, and some regrets of the way life works out in the end. A very touching, moving book, indeed. 4 star

shellleigh33 I thought it was but of course I love all her books so my opinion may be just a little bias 😉. I have yet to find any of her books to be bad. She was one of the first authors I recommended to one of my best friends that was a non-reader and she turned her into a reader. She ended up reading just about all her books in a year. 4mo

There were free books on the side of the road today, so of course we stopped!! The table closest was full of kids books. The other was adult books!

I got the tagged book, another Kristin Hannah book and another random book! Maybe I‘ll post the books later.

I really hope they give the rest to the library or put them in the free little library up the road.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars. I write this review minutes after sobbing. 😭 Beautiful story of a friendship that spanned decades. ❤️ Has anyone read the sequel? Thoughts (without spoilers please)?

This was also my first time using #Bookly (I started it on page 117 I think). It is kind of a pain but I love statistics.

TrishB The sequel explores some of the story lines left open, it‘s not as powerful/emotional as this one. I can‘t say much more without spoilers! 7mo

This book was funny, nostalgic, heartbreaking and beautiful. The words just flowed so easily I devoured it. It gave you the feeling you were living that life with TullyandKate. The songs mentioned were like an iPod that just brought you into the moment with them, such a simple idea but really rounded it out and made it perfection. Although the ending had me in a big ugly cry of streaming tears, this love story of friendship will steal your heart.
