It‘s Terry Prachett. What‘s not to love?
#AuthorAMonth @Soubhiville
Well there was certainly a lot of this story I did not remember! I'm maintaining my earlier conclusion regarding stories that feature the Discworld's Death, there's something so wistful about his relationship to humanity, it always makes me a little sad. One could argue that this is indeed an appropriate spooky time read, despite the Christmas/pagan winter festival vibes, due largely to Mr. Teatime's exceptionally creepy involvement. 1/?
Baby and child work as gender neutral terms, but I prefer tiny human and small human, respectively. ☺️
Stands to reason, any shower created by Bloody Stupid Johnson's would have an energetic bidet feature. 😆
When the Hogfather disappears, Death steps in to make sure all the presents are delivered to all the good little boys and girls, which sets off a series of madness that Death‘s granddaughter sets out to fix with the help of the god of hangovers, a sassy raven, and the Death of mice.
I nearly DNF but once I leaned into the ridiculousness, I really enjoyed it.
When the Disc‘s Santa Claus equivalent disappears under mysterious circumstances, Death steps in to fill his boots, while his granddaughter Susan investigates.
Every year. Every year I listen or read to this story, and ever year this book breaks me a little and puts me back together. Glorious puns, all while talking about what makes us human, and the power of belief and stories and kindness. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
I have really been enjoying this book so far. It reminds me of a retelling of The Nightmare Before Christmas. But instead of Jack stepping in for Santa, we have Death. In classic Pratchett style, we also have a whole cast of other crazy characters who get into all kinds of odd and fantastical antics. And it reads fast. Such a great choice for the end of the year!!
Sir Pterry is almost always a winner, and this one was basically an instant classic for me. I think I'd make it my annual Christmas read if I owned a physical copy - Discworld's footnotes always work better for me in paper form. The movie isn't a bad adaptation either, and it's obviously a labor of love, which is the best kind of film.

Since @The_Penniless_Author (who has a new book, True North, just published!) used HHGTTG, I‘ll go with Discworld, which has soooo many unusually named characters. I opted for the tagged (weird/unusual book title) that features 5 criminals Chickenwire, Medium Dave Lilywhite, Banjo Lilywhite, Catseye, & Peachy who work for Mr. Jonathan Teatime (who insists his name is pronounced teh-ah-tim-eh and not like the afternoon meal).
This was my final (144th) book of 2022! It was fun to finish off with a “Christmas“ story, interpreted as only Terry Pratchett could, with Death taking on the duties of the missing Hogfather.

We‘re closing in on Christmas and I‘m not finished wrapping yet! 😅
So I‘d love to be out assisting Death or tagging along with Susan!
#SundayFunday Have a wonderful day and remember to tag me in your posts!
I've lost count of how many times I've read Hogfather - it's my favorite of the Discworld books and I read it every December. This year, I'm listening to the new audio version narrated by Sian Clifford, with Bill Nighy reading the footnotes and Peter Serafinowicz as DEATH. 💀 💀 💀
The ebook's on sale right now, too for $1.99
#Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView 1. “Hogfather”… guess I like the actual book more than the title itself😆
2. Not necessarily, but a good one-word title can sound mysterious and intriguing and make me want to know more. I agree about “Divergent”!
New episode just dropped! We discuss Terry Pratchett's Hogfather, The Jerry Seinfeld comedy sitcom, Gilmore Girls, and much much more. How do we fit it all into one episode? Easy, it's an hour long.

Prepping the Hogfather episode! This was the first Discworld novel I've read and I have to say that I feel sort of abashed that it took so long. It's very British, very funny, and right up my alley.
Finally got some quality time with my Christmas re-read 🎄☃️📖🎅🤣
"Charity ain't giving people what you wants to give, it's giving people what they need to get."
The Hogfather has disappeared on the Eve of Hogswatch. What‘s to be done? Death steps in to keep the belief alive, & Susan is as awesome as always.
I love Susan so much. She is so practical and stubborn. And Death. Death looking at the presents for rich kids vs poor kids, Death looking at the Little Match Girl, Death being told “that‘s life” and deciding “no, not tonight” always brings me to tears. In my top 3 Pratchett books. Period. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
If I've read the first five Discworld books and the Tiffany Aching ones (those were my introduction to Pratchett) , will I miss much if I skip ahead and read Hogfather? Or should I just keep going in pub order?
The longest night of the year is coming up. Share some light. ✨
1. Christmas Eve, the whole family sits together and reads Dylan Thomas‘s A Child‘s Christmas in Wales.
2. After Winter Games last year, I made a decision to make reading Hogfather by Terry Pratchett a yearly tradition.
3. There‘s one present for everyone to be opened on Christmas Eve from the Christmas Eve elf. ❤️
#SundayFunday Stay warm, stay safe, and remember to tag me!
New episode just dropped! We discuss cookies, modeling, pathos, and select a December #botm. It's all there. Everything you want and more from a book podcast. Enjoy!

The seasonal reread has begun!
Book 123 audio
Kicking off my holiday reading with the Hogfather.
An excellent story as ever. Each time I read it I grasp a bit more of the depth of the tale and humans need for make-believe.
#BookReport - Finished 5 books, 2 were audiobooks. They were all very good and enjoyable books.
In progress - I‘m almost 200 pages into Crooked Kingdom
Still participating in #SundayBuddyRead
About halfway through the audio of Hercule Poirot‘s Christmas
#WeeklyForecast - Start the #BBBBC pick and the next #LMPBC book and possibly some more holiday books thrown in. I have some comics saved on Hoopla I want to read.
I finally finished my first Terry Pratchett book! This was a lot of fun and a wild ride. I think I may start a tradition where I read it every December.

#bookspin #doublespin trying to get a handle on this before I attempt bingo! @TheAromaofBooks
despite part of the movie adaptation boring me significantly, this was a pretty fun read (and I reminder that I need to read Death's subseries sooner rather than later). I was kind of surprised to see that Death taking over the role of the Hogfather is only a small part of the book, with weird amounts of focus given to the archchancellor instead? I do think Susan is pretty darned cool though.
Book catch up round 1!
39: Hogfather, Terry Pratchett
40: Theif of Time, Terry Pratchett
41: Masquerade, Terry Pratchett
42: Men at Arms, Terry Pratchett
43: A Blink of the Screen, Terry Pratchett
44: Harry Potter: A History of Magic, Ben Davies
I‘ll admit, this one took awhile to get me sucked into the story, lots of separate stories in the beginning and it wasn‘t until they started to come together and interrelated a bit more that it got really page turning for me. Loved all the poking at and examining Christmas and traditions and belief...and Susan is really growing on me as a character.

That about sums it up really....🤔.
A coffin wrapped in chains, let‘s open it; a sealed tomb, open it; anything that says danger, let‘s go, surely it will end differently for us we‘re better/special/smarter/etc... we really are steeped in our own superiority myths.

Good and creepy beginning...and great side commentary on the origin of “fairy” stories, well not fairy per say, more like the Grimm Brothers to Disney version story evolution slide.

Probably Pratchett‘s most rememberable creation is when Death takes over the Hogfather‘s job, jolly red coat, beard, pillow case and HO HO HO included. Since he is busy, it falls to his granddaughter, Susan, to actually rescue the Hogfather. We have hilarious household gods like the “oh god” of Hangovers and the Cheearful Fairy; I loved Hex and the error messages; overall fun romp and a treatise on belief and humanity. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“HUMAN BEINGS MAKE LIFE SO INTERESTING. DO YOU KNOW, THAT IN A UNIVERSE SO FULL OF WONDERS, THEY HAVE MANAGED TO INVENT BOREDOM.” #manage #QuotsyMay20
I think this is the quintessential Death book? I think this is the quintessential Death book. I liked this mode of Susan a LOT better, every set of perspectives was interesting, and this book has just rocketed up to somewhere near the top of my personal Disc rankings. I may have to make it a seasonal tradition!

I think the Bursar sort of acts as a proxy Rincewind in these wizard ensemble books, and now I really want to see the two of them interact.
