Hi Littens! I am thinking of starting a low key Sci-Fi book club and I am trying to gage the interest. If interested, please comment to this post and tag anyone you think might enjoy being part of the group.

@RamsFan1963 @Branwen @wanderinglynn @Klou

I know there are more Sci-Fi readers and I am drawing a blank at the moment.

AuthorCjwhitcomb I could get into that 1y
Bookwomble I love sci fi, but I'm a mood reader and not very clubable! Count me in, but with low expectations 😏🚀🪐 1y
wanderinglynn @Bookwomble I‘m the same! 😆 1y

wanderinglynn Lisa, I‘m down. And I‘ve just started Star Splitter. 🚀🪐 1y
MerlinTheSlightlyAwkward I‘m very new to the book club scene, but am always down for suggested reads. Especially sci-if! Tentatively in! 1y
Klou I love Sci-fi, however I don't read one right after another. However, if you do it and are reading a book I own and want to read then I'd definitely love to join in. 1y
RamsFan1963 Sounds good to me. 95% of my TBR is sci-fi or fantasy 1y
Larkken New releases or old “classics”/classics? Not that it really matters, I‘m in either way 😊 1y
Deblovestoread I‘d like to read more SF but I‘d probably pop in and out depending on the books being read. 1y
bnp I read a lot of scifi, but my guess is I would pop in and out depending on what is being read. So yes, I d like to provide, just don't know that I would be in every month. 1y
ravenlee Wasn‘t there a group a while back (probably years at this point) that was scifi-focused? #bbbbc or something? You might find some interested parties under that #. I‘m a little interested - I mean, I love the idea but I habitually overcommit and get overwhelmed. I‘m getting really into space opera and am cautiously interested in scifi. 1y
Johanna414 Definitely interested! Another mood reader, but if you're reading something I'm interested in, and can get my hands one, I'd like to participate 1y
BookmarkTavern I am absolutely interested! I love sci fi so much! 1y
julesG I'm interested, yet have similar problems as @ravenlee. 1y
sebrittainclark I'm interested 1y
BookBelle84 Me too! 1y
Readergrrl I‘m interested! 1y
CSeydel 🙋🏻‍♀️ 1y
Roary47 I would definitely love that! 💛 1y
Books_et_al I‘d be interested 😊 1y
Lizpixie I‘m interested for sure! Been a SciFi reader since I was 9yrs old & it‘s still one of my favorite genres.🪐💫 1y
Ruthiella I‘d be interested! 👍🚀👽🛸 1y
PaperbackPirate I read sci if every now and then. Interested. 👍 1y
PageShifter Interested! 1y
bthegood I'm a hit or miss with sci/fi but I will check out books you choose (I already follow you so you don't need to add me to a list 🙂) I am tagging @swynn on this - he enjoys sci/fi - 🙂 (edited) 1y
kwmg40 I read a lot of sci fi and would be interested. 1y
majkia I'd love it. 1y

I am so stinkin‘ excited to dive into my match‘s list for #NYWD22. @MeganAnn and I both included the tagged book on our lists and I read - and loved - The Outsiders earlier this year, so I already know we‘re in good company. The titles pictured here are my goals…and I cannot wait. 🤗💜📚

monalyisha I love the one Sarah Gailey book I‘ve read (Magic for Liars) & want to read more by them! I tried to get my Book Club to read the tagged this coming year but they didn‘t vote for it. I‘ll have to read it by my lonesome, I suppose! I‘ve got a feeling they‘re totally missing out. (edited) 3y
MeganAnn I love that we both have an extra overlap book we‘ve already read. The Outsiders I originally read in 8th grade for class and loved it. It‘s one of those books that‘s stayed with me. This summer, I read it again with my son who is a 7th grader and he loved it as well. We had so much fun discussing it together. 😊 These are all Excellent choices! I‘m so excited to see your thoughts on them. 🎉 3y
MeganAnn @monalyisha Magic for Liars almost made it on my list too, but I enjoyed Upright Women Wanted a teensy bit better (it‘s like gold medal and silver medal reads… both amazing but I decided only one for each author could win). I really want to read River for Teeth as well. I‘m fact, those two books made me want to read ALL of their work. 3y

MeganAnn Almost all of these books are #blameitonlitsy reads for me! How Long Til Black Future Month was on @BarbaraJean ‘s #newyearwhodis list last year. She also included Magic for Liars which I loved & it prompt me to pick up Upright Women Wanted when I saw it at the library. Last Night at the Telegraph Club was my choice for an #lmpbc round of queer reads & Today I Am a Boy was @Reggie ‘s choice for the same round. 3y
MeganAnn And A Memory Called Empire was a #bbbbc read and it was also the first book I finished in 2021, even though I started it last December. 3y
Reggie @MeganAnn Last Night at the Telegraph Club won the National Book Award for best YA this past week and I thought of you because of our LMPBC round. ☺️ 3y

#BookReport - Finished 6 books this week. 4 on audio and 2 print books. All were pretty good except the Alice Feeney was terrifying.

Currently reading the tagged in print and listening to Murder at Archly Manor on audio.

#WeeklyForecast - really need to read the #BBBBC for this month and my library hold is in for Finlay Donovan

Cinfhen What a fabulous week!!! Audiobooks are game changers!!!! Love them 4y

Pickpick

This book is a SLOG, but it has many fascinating themes and ideas and I really wish I had a book club to chat all about it. The authors notes at the end was really interesting and I think perhaps an example of self delusion. 3/5 stars, a lot of description, but interesting to read. Scientists are killing themselves, one goes undercover and discovers we aren‘t alone in the universe and the aliens are coming towards earth.

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Sounds good!! Start a book club ❤️📚❤️ 4y
Laughterhp This was a pick last year for the #BBBBC Litsy book club. You can see if the posts are still there and if anyone chatted about it. Just an idea. I couldn‘t get into this one 😬 4y
iread2much @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks it‘s on my list! Once things get calmer at work 😄 4y

#BookReport - Finished 5 books this week, 3 were audio and all were pretty good!

I‘m currently reading Chilling Effect for #BBBBC and I started listening to HP on audio because I needed something comforting. The Blue Castle was just so depressing I had to put it down!

#WeeklyForecast - I got about 30 pages into The Shadow King and got distracted. I‘ll start Midnight Riot on audio once my Hoopla borrows reset

Cinfhen I stopped and started Shadow King too!! I have a feeling it‘s going to be tough but worth the challenge 4y

This was... interesting? I enjoyed the world building but had a really hard time connecting with any of the characters (besides the psychic cats, of course-they were awesome). Decision making didn‘t seem to make sense at times and that is a big pet peeve of mine. Overall it was just ok for me. #bbbbc

Pickpick

4/5

This book was really fun. Eva is the captain of a small cargo ship who's trying to make a life for herself and her crew in a frequently violent galaxy.

This book is non-stop action. I kept thinking I must be at the end of the book because the action was so exciting only to realize I wasn't even halfway through.

It also involves my favorite trope of mysterious and advanced alien tech existing around the universe.

LazyOwl I am reading this at the moment, so I'm in. 4y
Tracyantoon I just downloaded the audiobook yesterday so I‘m in too. 🤓📚❤️ 4y
MeganAnn I‘m really excited for this one! It‘s been on my shelf for a long time waiting to be read. I keep almost picking it up and then deciding on something else. 4y
bookandcat Have it from the library and am excited to start! I gave up on Mists of Avalon on the first or second chapter because it was too uncomfy for me but I'm pumped for this one!!! 4y
Laughterhp Yay! Have this one already. Hoping to get to it in April! 4y
TheBookDream Please add me! Is there a discussion time date? 4y
RainyDayReading I‘m so excited for this one! 4y
SconsinBookyBadger I‘m in. I downloaded the ebook through hoopla. 4y
IndoorDame I‘m in! 4y
Angeles I got the audiobook but after a couple of chapters I bailed out. I don't like the heroine and her family is way too sterotypical. It is bad enough books set in the present seem to only show hispanic people who are criminals or victims of crime, but apparently we can't even have a different narrative in the far future! 4y
sebrittainclark Can you add me to notifications? 4y
Gezemice I am in, too! Thanks for hosting :) 4y

And the last set of questions!

Gezemice 7. I guess the most surprising was the Merlin becoming Christian and that whole terrible punishment. I also did not like how evil Mordred turned out. Vivian being slain just like that seemed also rather contrived. Lancelot going mad was weird. But the one I am not sure about is, did she imply that the reason Gwen never had children was that Morgause was giving her herbs to prevent it? That was not quite clear to me. 4y
Gezemice 8. Not really. This is an epic where most scenes are part of the whole. 9. No. While I am glad I have read it, the story was ended and the style does not make me want to read another, especially after I found out about the author. 4y
InLibrisVeritas @Gezemice I was unclear in Gwen's inability to have children too. It was said a few times they could both have children, and then with people saying she could not be allowed a child. It definitely felt like someone was interfering. 4y

The second set of questions for you!
I will post the 3rd set immediatly so be on the look out for those as well.

Gezemice 4. I think that was great, but the author definitely was biased toward paganism and women, but I must say with good cause, as usually there isn‘t even a discussion on those aspects, or are plainly treated as evil, like Guinevere and the priests keep doing. At the end, she brings them together though, and finds place for women and the Goddess in the worship of the Virgin Mary. (edited) 4y
Gezemice 5. See previous - the Goddess lives in the Virgin Mary. However that rather simplifies it as the society becoming male dominant and women being relegated to subservient role is not addressed by Virgin worship, and the book glosses over this. (edited) 4y
Gezemice 6. Oh, I think the point of the book was to address the tough issues of sexuality, sin, religion, women‘s roles, mothers, etc. They weren‘t just plot points. She actually had to work quite hard to put her themes into the framework of the Arthurian legends. Like using the Grail story to show that the Goddess and God are the same. Or using Gwen and Lancelot‘s love to bring about Gwen‘s character development. 4y
