Another detective series I started but this one I won't continue. An interesting concept (it follows homicide detective Casey Duncan in the hidden Rockton, a small, off-the-grid town in the wilderness of the Canadian Yukon where people go when they wish to disappear) but I didn't care much for the characters (as compared to those in For Reasons Unknown that I reviewed yesterday).
And of course there are only so many thriller series I can handle!
August 22 #AboutABook you gifted. I don't buy books for people as we are all digital now. But if i would it would be from Kelly Armstrong @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
First in a new-to-me series! This was definitely a pick, somewhere between 3 and 4 stars but I rounded up.
If there was a Rockton, I can't tell you how tempted I'd be to run there. Not because life is horrible but because this sounds like nirvana (also hard as heck!).
I enjoyed Casey's story and am looking forward to more in this series.

While at the lake I've gone to the local library, the girl there told me she read the 7 books in this series in a week! A new series?! Yes!
Casey takes a friend who needs to disappear to a place totally off the grid, in Yukon territory. Rockton doesn't exist , you must be approved to get there. Casey is a detective, the sheriff of Rockton has never lived anywhere but there. 3 murders happen in a town of 200⬇️

This #Lost title is the first book in the Rockton series that spun off into the newer Haven‘s Rock series. It‘s set in the Yukon wilds where people go to a hidden town to get lost from danger. It‘s become one of my favorite mystery/thriller series. 💙🤍🩶 #SeriesLove
Thanks @Eggs for the #TLT tag! 🤗
This is hard to narrow down to only 3!
1️⃣ Casey Duncan from the tagged book from the Rockton series (& now New Haven series). She‘s a bad ass in the Yukon wilderness! 🌲🐻❄️
2️⃣ Charley Davidson from her series by Darynda Jones. She‘s a PI & the grim reaper! 💀
3️⃣ Trixie Belden & Nancy Drew from childhood (yes, that!s 2, so sue me!) 😉👩🏻🤝👩🏼
Anyone else want to play along?! 🔎🩶

Another bingo spot for #NSRC2024 @Nessavamusic This booklist is a start of a series #SeriesLove24 @Andrew65 @TheSpineView #ReadAway2024 @DieAReader @Andrew65 @GHABI4ROSES
There are a few editions of this book. I listened to the audio version and liked the MC. 14 hours long or 460 pages if I read it. So, a spot on #ISpyBingFebruary and one spot on the #ISpyBingoJan as I'm still going to work on it. @Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks
#LitsyCrafters @Catsandbooks Finished one pillowcase embroidery while listening to an audio book. City of the Lost by Kelly Armstrong
I liked the Yukon setting of this dark mystery/thriller. I've read a lot of Kelley Armstrong's novels but this is the first without any supernatural elements.

I read the second one in this series a bit ago and the first finally became available. I was unsurprised that I enjoyed it especially getting to know the background to the characters and watch their relationships develop. I think the second was better in terms of plot and intrigue. But this was still a great way to stay entertained over a long weekend of yard work and beach time ☀️☀️
Anyone else like to go back and skim read the first book when you finish the series??? I love to revisit how everything began once I know where everything will end (even though I‘m holding out hope this isn‘t the end 🤞🏻)

Trying to get back into a couple of monthly challenges with #JulyJourneys
For #CanadaDay 🇨🇦🍁 I am going for a favorite series set in the wilds of the Yukon. I am small kine obsessed with the mysterious hidden Canadian town of Rockton & its often dubious citizens & I have read all 6 books in the series so far. Some are stronger than others, but they always leave me craving the next one.
Yukon for #ReadCanada
Not my usual genre, but that's why I do challenges. A solid read, with compelling characters. Kelley Armstrong has been on my radar of authors to check out for quite a while, so I was glad of the excuse to finally read one of hers.
#TBRPile 📚 Detective Casey Duncan has a dark past, and it‘s about to catch up with her. When her friend Diana is attacked by an abusive ex, the two women realise they have to disappear, fast. Diana has heard of a hidden town that‘s so remote it‘s almost impossible to reach. A town that desperately needs a new detective...
This is a very promising start to a thriller series. Loved the setting and characters and the whole premise is just thoroughly original. I do think that the mystery was unnecessarily convoluted but I still really enjoyed this and am reading the next one immediately! Published in 2017, there are four additional books currently available.
#SoaringScores #catchup
I have about 5 prompts to catch up on this weekend so I will do them in no particular order.
When I think of a #TimeBombTown I think of the hidden Rockton, tucked away in the Canadian Yukon & filled with people hiding from something. It always seems like a ticking time bomb is waiting to go off there. (And yes, I use this series a lot! 😉) Waiting for book #5.
#WanderingJune
I'm not sure I'd want to say #LetsGetLost for too long in Rockton, (a secret off-the-grid town in the Yukon Territory full of people on the run, looking for a quiet place to disappear to), but it certainly intrigues me. The Rockton series is one that grabbed me from the first (tagged) book, and I am now waiting for book five.
A gritty, dark mystery set in an isolated locale where everyone is hiding something.
Ooh, I enjoyed this a lot! A completely unexpected plot for a thriller and twists I didn't see coming. I'll be curious to see what happens next in Rockton! (Fingers crossed my library hold comes in quick 🤞🏽)
And shoutout to @mrozzz for the great rec! 👏🏽
Well that's an opening line that'll make you want to know more!
1 - Teleport all the way.
2 - Just started it yesterday
3 - Not really
4 - No Netflix but just got the 2nd season of the Handmaid's tale from the library.
5 - 💚

I‘m about 100 pages in and so far I‘m just kind of “eh” about this book! .. maybe I‘m just a bit biased toward Kelley Armstrong‘s supernatural books but I‘m pushing through and hope it picks up!
So I made a grave error. I picked this book because I thought it was a stand alone 🙈 after finishing I'm happy there will be more though. 😊
Enjoy a delicious keto breakfast with my book :)
Porkrine blueberry pancakes with peanut butter & plain yogurt with blueberries and hemp seed 💕 and ofc a cup a tea in my Dwight schrute mug
Still on my Kelley Armstrong kick, thought I'd try one of her stand alone books!
Whoa! Armstrong's style immediately drew me in. Can't wait to read the next installment!
Casey, with her police experience and maternal instincts can't help but do everything in her power to protect Diana from her threatening ex. When he takes his prowling a step too far, and Casey finds herself in a troubling situation of her own- the friends flee the city for a new start in a town full of would-be convicts tucked away in Yukon Territory.
Say what?!
Where to start with this book? It was AMAZING! I loved that it was set in Canada, I feel like more books should be haha (I'm Canadian so I'm biased) the plot was very interesting and I loved the writing style. I also liked the main character, she felt very real. A really enjoyable book with a good plot. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for the rest of the series!
5/5 ⭐

Interesting story. Some really great plot twists and a setting in the forests just below the Arctic Circle that was fascinating. I adored Casey, I liked the way she thought and I loved how smart she was. Great protagonist. About 2/3 of the way through it got a little draggy and went from practically no romance to a little bit too much, but I still took quite a shine to this book. Looking forward with great anticipation to the next. #murdermystery
Love this new series by Armstrong because it is set in a town in the middle of the #wilderness
People here are either trying to recover from crimes committed against them or escape from the crimes they have committed.
#readingresolutions
Torn on this one. I really like the idea of the town off the grid, where you can disappear when you need to. I liked the dynamics among the characters. My problem was that I had just recently reread/finished Kelley Armstrong's Nadia Stafford trilogy, and there were too many similarities in the main characters. Not quite cut-and-paste, but it bugged me. Hopefully the rest of the series will be less deja-vu.
Snuggled up with these two this morning. This was any second time reading this book and I enjoyed it just as much. Great story, great location, great main character. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series. #dogsoflitsy #corgisoflitsy
My plans for the morning. Also just wanted to show off my amazing new mug. An early birthday present from my mother in law that knows me pretty well. #corgisoflitsy #mugsoflitsy
Perks of babysitting for @Amanda23 include cozy blankets, fun mugs and a ton of great books to choose from. #sistersoflitsy #readingissexy
Casey and her friend escape to an isolated town in the wilderness - her friend from her abusive boyfriend and Casey from a murder in her past. They are led to believe that the town is safe but a string of disappearances suggests otherwise.

This one is a re-read for me as I have the second one on #MountTBR. I enjoy the premise that there is a secret town in the wilderness - a whole another 'world' secret from everyday life - though there are no supernatural elements to these books. But the safe haven of Rockton may not be so safe after all.
I really enjoyed this thriller. Usually I can tell who did it but this one had me guessing until the end. I was surprised at who was the culprit but once I thought back to the evidence it made sense.
I really wish that Casey wasn't so level headed and calm though. Some people could have used a tongue lashing from her.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I enjoyed this far more than I expected. Stayed up way past my bedtime a couple nights in a row to read "just one more chapter." I was ultimately a little dissatisfied with the ending, but it was a ride getting there!
Part of the morning was spent listening to this engaging audiobook & baking sour cherry-rosemary focaccia. Just because I could. Loving my time off already.
Started this on audio tonight. I pretty much love whatever she writes. Can't believe I haven't read these books yet. Sitting on the deck relaxing and listening and am hooked after 1 hour (By "these books," I mean this series)
Finally finished the 6 parts of City of the lost. Wasn't overly impressed so doubt I'll continue the series. If you like murder/mysteries, it's probably more up your street than mine - I preferred Armstrong's supernatural stuff.
