Eh. As a fan of slasher flicks, I figured this would be up my alley dispute some less than glowing reviews. It wasn‘t bad, but I have issues with the way the story was told. The gang doesn‘t really do anything productive in the investigation. The build up is spent on this-awful-thing-the-MC-did ..which wasn‘t impactful to the main story in the end.

I wanted to like this! I didn't want to overthink the cheesy teen slasher horror and tried to go with the flow (of gore). Alas! Thoughts invaded. The killer's motive was the most nonsensical thing. I mean? What is even going on there? This makes me sound horrible but the book is best when it's fast-paced and slashy and bloody and at its worst when it spends way too many pages on teen angst and romance. Granted, I'm not the target audience, but.

Mimi28 Yikes I wish there was an un-stack option, you hardly ever give bad reviews, 😳😱 6mo

vivastory I did like this one, but I could have done without the teen angsit/romance. The egg timer scene at the beginning though... (edited) 6mo
batsy @vivastory That scene creeped me out! I enjoyed all of the "there's someone inside your house" scenes ? And liked the bits from other characters' POV. Thought Makani was just a bit too woe is me and thus, boring. 6mo
5feet.of.fury I just finished this one, totally agree with the motive, nonsense. also there was no tension/investigation as to who the killer was. The MCs just see his face… that for me was such a let down. The build up was so wasted on “what Makani did”. It wasn‘t good, but she didn‘t set up the hazing. The weird epiphany in the maze was also too much 😂 5mo

Final Spooky book complete! This one I think would work better as a film then a novel (that ending was all over the place tbqh) and apparently Netflix made one. Will check it out this weekend maybe. Props for subverting some tropes & revealing the killer far earlier than I expected.

A small town is plagued by a killer known for stalking and slashing his victims. He toys with them and their home, moving their things, leaving cabinets open, and creating a sense of dread. A group of teens take it into their own hands because the police are just dumb I guess.

I found the end extraordinary…odd. I think it‘s still worth the read but this went from a 4.5 star to a 2.5 because of the end. #scarthlon #teamread #creepinitreal

Oh yeahhhh, solid slasher horror, if you‘re into that! It‘s kind of an easy read if you don‘t mind a little bit of gore. Some teenage drama, some blood and guts, and that‘s it, almost feels like you‘re back watching Scream 😱 nice they included some good representation in there as well, it felt very contemporary!

⭐️ Even the amazing Bahni Turpin couldn‘t save this one. Nothing felt believable. To elicit fear, there needs to be *some* plausibility. It was very surface-level; just gory, not scary nor suspenseful. I didn‘t care about the teenaged victims or the killer‘s (weak) motive. Maybe it‘s better on screen, but someone will have to let me know because I‘m not giving it two more hours of my life.

LibrarianRyan Dont give it the two hours. I didn't care for the book either, I read it when it first came out, but thought maybe Netflix would make it better. Nope. 3y
MrT I agree with the above. I didn't even finish the book and the film was standard unimaginative slasher movie nonsense. 3y
vivastory Message me on GR & tell me what you really thought 😂
Seriously though, I thought the beginning had some creepy moments but it's been largely forgettable & the trailer for the movie doesn't look like anything too special

britt_brooke @vivastory 😂 I‘m so mean. I totally hate-read it until the end, so I could write a scathing review. Funny thing is I loved her Anna and the French kiss books. I guess I‘m a sucker for YA romance, but not thoughtless slashers. 😅 I mean, why would the killer fuck with his friend‘s brain. Just gore for gore‘s sake. Made no sense. So dumb!! 3y

There‘s a serial killer in Osborne whose killing high school students. Makani and her friends have to find out who is before they kill them.
This book was okay. It had a kind of happy ending; they caught the killer and everything. I just think it was drawn out too long that it made it kind of boring.
There‘s the movie on Netflix. Like every adaptation, it doesn‘t quite follow the book.

Read this for scare pairs for #screamathon. And #scarathlon #spookoween #wickedthon. It was a good teen slasher movie in a book. Reminded me of Scream. Typical teens you see in scary movies - there is a killer on the lose so let‘s have sex, ignore the warning signs, and all go to the haunted corn maze dressed liked the killer. I wish there was a bit more of an epilogue. @StayCurious @4thhouseontheleft 225 pts #teamhendrix

Watched this movie to compare to the book for @4thhouseontheleft ‘s #screamathon week 1 prompt. The movie switched up so much of the story while staying true to the general feel of the book as well as keeping the same characters (although some of them have different personalities). I enjoyed both but definitely like the book more. The characters in the movie were less likable. But still a “fun” teenage slasher! 🌟🌟🌟

This was a really fun, high school slasher story that definitely kept me entertained. Reminded me a lot of Scream, which I‘ve always enjoyed, and I thought it had good character development. It also ended in a way that could leave it open for a sequel or could just be the ending. I‘d definitely read a sequel if it comes out! 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Reading this as half the Week 1 #screamathon prompt and ready to watch the movie on Netflix when it comes out!
