I love Kate diCamillo but for some reason this book did not resonate with Trix. It may be that she would just prefer for Luke to continue reading The Sisters Grimm with her. In any case, we have put it aside for now. Disappointing, but worth trying something else for a while.

Here‘s another wild adventure by the creative and oh-so-cool children‘s author Kate DiCamillo. 🙌🏻 You‘ll meet a comic-book obsessed young girl, her wacky romance novelist mom, several eccentric and philosophical neighbors and a lovable poetic rodent! There‘s also a sprinkling of graphic novel pages for even more fun. A 2014 Newbery Medal winner and a gem of a read!

One of the best feel good books. Flora is a beautiful soul and I love the characters that rallied around her. Dicamillo connects nature straight to the feel goods!

I don't know what is going on in this Mother's life, but she is not a likeable character. Someone needs to hug Flora.

ShyBookOwl Isn't that a theme in children's lit/media? Moms are either dead or emotionally absent (usually dead). It irks me lol 13mo

This is a sweet and quirky read with highly interesting characters. On the surface it‘s about a girl and her acquired squirrel and their adventures. Down in, it‘s truly about family struggles, understanding and acceptance. This would be a wonderful read aloud. There are lots of discussion points beyond basic comprehension and multiple issues that younger readers can relate to. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

AkashaVampie Have u seen the movie yet? I haven't read or watched it. But I do want to. The movie looks so cute. 3y

4🌟This was an amusing and thoughtful tale by one of my favorite children's authors. It has a sense of absurdity that is sure to amuse younger readers and a depth of meaning that lingers long after reading. Plus it has a superhero squirrel. What's not great about that?

What a beautiful and profound statement about love from a middle grade book. This is one of the reasons I love Kate DiCamillo. She treats children like they are intelligent and capable of understanding deep emotions. She doesn't talk down to them.

So I started reading this book because it looked cute and I love Kate DiCamillo, only to find out that I apparently have read this book. I have no recollection of this, but Goodreads says I read it over a period of a few days in January of 2015. It feels very weird to not recall anything about it, but, regardless, I'm enjoying the read now.

Like I said last night, so so so cute! It‘s a kid‘s story, so there are some things that are glossed over and not really resolved/dealt with in a realistic way (basically the entire climax), but that doesn‘t take away from how absolutely adorable it is. I‘m using it as my #booked2019 genrebusting prompt because of the combination of text and comic panels throughout the book.😊😊😊

I‘m almost done with this adorable book. I‘m totally loving it. It‘s so cute, and Kate DiCamillo makes Flora such a relatable character. Even William Spiver, who honestly is super weird, is more relatable than people like her parents, who are relatively normal and probably more like us than any of us would like to admit. I‘m thinking I‘ll try & finish it tonight, as it‘s such a quick read, because I have another loan to get to!

This MF novel has won the John Newbery Award and is written by Kate DiCamillo, illustrated by K.G. Campbell. This story is about Flora and her super powered squirrel! This squirrel can write poetry and is very smart, together they help save her dad. No one believes her, but she knows for sure that he has superpowers and she believes in him. This book has a great switch between comic, poetry and a novel. #UCFLAE3414SU19

Macker11 I think diving into Kate DiCamillo for an AS would be great for the students in my classroom. This author has produced such amazing and impactful books that really speaks to children. Students can use ESOL#16 to have collaborative groups to discuss what they have learned about the author. Also, UDL #8.3 to go with the discussion they have together. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Flora-and-Ulysses-Novel-Study-116366... 5y

My review of this book (last post) had me using "Kate" instead of DiCamillo or Kate DiCamillo. This is strictly because "Kate" is 4 characters long and DiCamillo is 9--and Kate DiCamillo is 13 characters--and I run out of room in my reviews if I use the 13. So, I FULLY respect Kate DiCamillo. But, I use "Kate" for space. Yes? :) *I love these lines. ?And I love this Dr. Meescham, would love to meet her & sit on her horsehair sofa. #katedicamillo

As if anything from Kate isn't unusually good? Yeah. This one is incredible. Such rich character detail, wonderful story, humorous like you wouldn't believe (actually, you would if you knew Kate's writing). I laughed so much. And I really like that Spiver character: partly because of his great vocab and ridiculous "handicap," and partly because he's Flora's (unlikely) helper, and mostly because if you say MY last name fast, it comes out Spiver. ?
