I liked this book so much I bought my own set. Yes, it‘s light on specific structural advice, but it includes some fun spreads, interesting ideas, and reassuring advice.

If the Ryder Carroll book is a driving storm, and Hack Your Journal is a gentle rain…this book is like running through a splash pad.

A lot of useful tips for dot journaling and reinforcement that it doesn‘t need to be complicated. Surprisingly, it didn‘t talk about using electronic devices like an iPad for journaling.

Finished! Used up all my post-it tabs! Now I‘m ready to begin designing my own dot journal thanks to @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Book 11 of 20 #bookspinbonanza @TheAromaofBooks

Onceuponatime Sounds interesting! I wonder how similar this method is to bullet journaling? I‘ve always been intrigued by it but have been too intimidated to try. 🙈 5y
Eggs @Onceuponatime very similar-dot journaling refers to the dotted paper which serves as a grid that‘s less structured than, say, lined or graph paper. You decide what you need most in a journal-there are all kinds of ways to use it 5y
BookishMe Hope you will want to share a page or two from your dot journal ;)) 5y

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! I love journaling so much! Now I have a separate notebook just for Litsy/reading madness! 😂 I know the key for me has been to create a very, very simple base plan. Then on days when I have more time, I get fancier, but when life is busy I'll stick with the simple version. If I try to be complicated every day I just can't keep up!! 5y
TheAromaofBooks @Onceuponatime - So there is a guy whose name I can't think of right now who “officially“ came up with the term Bullet Journal (he has a huge website/following), and I'm pretty sure that while other people can copy the concept, they aren't allowed to, say, write a book using that term. I read this book a while back, and it's basically exactly like bullet journaling except she uses the generic dot journaling term to avoid getting into trouble!! 5y
Onceuponatime @Eggs Thanks! I use a dotted notebook anyway, just without any “system.” I should really try something like this...would probably be more efficient. @TheAromaofBooks That makes sense! I know of the guy you‘re talking about (although I also can‘t think of his name). I‘m very curious to see her “dot” approach...maybe I‘d find it more do-able than “bulleting.” 🤷‍♀️ 5y
Eggs @Onceuponatime @TheAromaofBooks What I like about this book‘s approach is you can narrow down what topics/lists fit you best. And within that, 5 or 6 ways to do it, including how many pages to use for each list/tracking. I am a list and tracking person 🤪🤩🤓 Thanks for the great comments 💗 5y
Eggs @BookishMe I will share just for you 💗 5y
BookishMe 💕❣️💞 5y
TheAromaofBooks I really liked the way this book was organized as well. I also like how she emphasized the organization part rather than the decorative part - I'm not super artsy!! 5y

Good book especially for those who are just starting out with #bulletjounaling or trying to get back into it/in a slump (me!). There were some great ideas in there and layout ideas and examples. #bujo #bulletjournal #booked2020 #finishedinaday #afbreadingchallenge2020 #standalone

MayJasper Interesting quote. Thanks. I am wondering what she meant by 'emotionally and spirituality independent'? 5y
alisiakae That is an interesting quote. I've never really thought that deeply about my #bujo, but could see how for some people it could show an alternative to their actual daily life. A list of what could have been, perhaps? 5y

Mehso-so

So 9 months after @mkittysabibliokitty recommend it, I finally got it. 😂 Clearly my dot journal will need to have a TBR section with timeframes!

I got some good ideas (like “to don‘t list”) & I liked the different layout examples. But the basic message is “it‘s your journal, do it how you want.” There‘s a lot of filler info (e.g., how to keep it private 🤷🏼‍♀️).

Overall, it was okay. But save yourself some money & check it out of the library.

wanderinglynn And I‘m happy to pass along my copy as soon as I jot down some of the ideas. 5y
Catsandbooks I feel like I need to update and revamp some things in my bujo. I'll have to take a look at this! 5y
TheAromaofBooks I felt the same way about this one. I also recently read the “official“ bullet journal guy's book that just came out this year, and his was similarly vague - and I also kind of felt like I was at a bujo revival meeting, as he spent about half the book telling me how this system would CHANGE MY LIFE and GET ME THAT BIG PROMOTION and GIVE ME MORE TIME WITH MY FAMILY! It was a little ridiculous haha 5y

wanderinglynn @Catsandbooks I‘m happy to pass this on to you as soon as I take down a few notes. 5y

So I loved that @catebutler had a beautiful clutch that she puts all her bookish things in when she goes out and I so I went and bought myself one too even though it s not as pretty as hers.
I also picked up this bullet journal but now I‘m slightly intimidated by it. Do any of you guys who already do it have any tips, sources ect to help me make the most of it?

wordzie 😎 6y
AlaMich Don‘t be intimidated. Use it however YOU want to. Some people use them as a creative outlet, which is lovely, but if you don‘t have the time or the inclination, don‘t worry about it. It‘s supposed to work for you, not the other way around! 😊 6y
Weaponxgirl @AlaMich thankyou. I think I want it to be kinda everything. Need pretty pens as I like that 6y

catebutler Shirley, I love that you grabbed a pouch for yourself! And, I love the saying on it! I do book journal, I watch a YouTube channels and follow a few journal accounts for inspiration. But, the fun part is making it your own. You‘ll figure out what works for you and enjoy the process as you do so! 💓 (edited) 6y
Weaponxgirl @catebutler it made so much sense since normally my bag is a mess of book related things plus a pharmacy. This keeps at least one part of it in order. I‘ve been playing with the bullet journal all day, got a idea of what I want it for now and hoping I won‘t return to my usual started but not finished notebook habit 6y

This is a good book full of some sound advice. If you‘ve never tried journaling, maybe now is the time to start. I‘ve toyed with it for a few years and actually started journaling more seriously last month. This book helped me get over my need for perfection. Just start and let the rest fall into place. Plus you can always add a sassy index. 😀

I've been bullet journaling for a few years now, so I wasn't sure how much I'd get out of this book. While I'm pretty settled on the way I do my monthly and weekly spreads, I did find plenty of interesting ideas in this book that I'll try in the future.

It's a fun read for journalers and anyone who aspires to keep a journal.

Cinfhen I‘m beyond excited for this #BuJo business @parttimedomestic and I appreciate your tips!!! I think for now I‘m going to use my BuJo as totally Litsy focused. And maybe once I get the hang of it, I‘ll branch out. I‘m happy I borrowed the guide @Kimberlone @cathysaid bc I think it‘s going to be a trial & error approach that‘s going to work best. Plus hello, Internet. I‘m sure if I go down the rabbit hole I can find plenty of good ideas💡 6y
Kimberlone @Cinfhen I only flipped through it for the most relevant info for me (I will never be a daily journaler/planner) for book journaling. I wish there had been more pictures/examples that went a long with the text. The layout examples were helpful but I would have liked more for headers, lettering, etc... 6y
Velvetfur I love bujos and have had 2 of them, I would suggest Pinterest for bujo inspiration, I'm always adding to my board on there 😊 6y
Sarah83 Have you already seen @Heideschrampf 's ideas? 💕🤩 6y
Cinfhen I might need to set up a Pinterest account @Velvetfur 😜I agree @Kimberlone but I liked all the different pens & markers info. I found that informative 6y

Cinfhen I‘m a really visual person @noonaReadingAddict and I‘m a notorious list maker so this seemed like a good way to channel/ organize my lists, thoughts & challenges!!! 6y
alisiakae I actually just switched back to a regular planner, but it has #bujo components. I found i was using up too much time creating the pages, and didn‘t actually enjoy it. But #bujo did help me develop some wonderful habits I have kept up for the most part! 6y
alisiakae @mirsophie I like the Moleskine dotted grids. I know other people also like Leuchtterm. . 6y
Cinfhen After wasting wayyyyy to many hours today I‘m in total agreement with you @4thhouseontheleft #BuJo isn‘t my jam after all 🤪🤪😆 6y
Heideschrampf @sarah83 your a darling 😘 @Cinfhen all i can say is that there is no „going wrong“ just try it and see whatever works for you.for me it‘s part getting myself organized, part relaxation therapy 6y
Cinfhen It was relaxing but also frustrating @Heideschrampf I spent wayyyyyy too many hours trying to be creative but it just wasn‘t translating to what I wanted/ needed the pages to accommodate. I‘m not sure for my purposes BuJo is the right system 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I have a semi bujo... I tried, but just couldn‘t do the fancy one!!! 6y
Cinfhen I tried @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks but it sucked away soooooo many hours and it really wasn‘t helpful 😝😝😝 6y
Mdargusch Once I got mine set up, the rest is easy. I get most of my ideas on Pinterest 6y

CatchMyBookBreath @tlmorgan I was too my first time. Don't worry -you get to be in control the whole time. 😃 Now it's fun to plan out my thoughts and let the ink do the work! 7y
tlmorgan Thanks for the positive vibes! Giving myself one more day to obsess on borders and doodles and then jumping in! 🤣 7y
CatchMyBookBreath @tlmorgan Yay for jumping in! I actually used my doodling as a stress reducing way to get in the habit of using mine. If i didn't have any text to write, I let myself just doodle. Trust me - PLENTY of thoughts will pop up then! 😃 7y
Nat_Reads I started one today for 2018! So much fun--I was stressed about how to get started, but then just went for it! 7y

While watching the HP marathon on Space, I came across this quote about what to do with old journals. I love a good Potter reference where you would never except one.

New Year's resolution? #bulletjournal

alessandrafn Calma. Isso é o diário de tópicos ou é um livro de dicas? 7y
bbackes @alessandrafn É um livro de dicas! Para ver se eu aprendo a fazer um razoável. 7y
alessandrafn Uuuuuh boa sorte 7y
bbackes @alessandrafn Vídeos no YouTube estavam só me intimidando e desanimando. Esse livro me parece mais realista. 7y
alessandrafn Esses blogueiros são assustadores. Inventam páginas desnecessárias pacassss 7y

I love journaling and really liked learning about dot journaling. Any chance I get to look at other people‘s pretty journals I take it.

My pages are all set for my personal reading challenge. Next year, I‘m holding myself accountable and will read at least two book bought prior to 2018 (the horizontal books) for every book read that is purchased or borrowed next year (the vertical books) for a total Goodreads Goal of 75 books & Mount TBR goal of 50. The Octopus marks the completion point of the challenge with shelf space to exceed my goals. 😊

Rachbb3 Looks good! 7y
dsfisher @DGRachel You can do this & I love 💕 the illustrations 7y
DGRachel @Rachbb3 Thanks! 7y

DGRachel @dsfisher Thanks Mom!😘😘😘 7y
jpmcwisemorgan Oh good idea! 7y
DGRachel @jpmcwisemorgan This year, I read over 160 books and only 16 counted for Mount TBR. I was so appalled. I know I‘m a moody reader, but I have hundreds of unread books, both physical and digital, so there‘s no excuse. A book buying ban is unrealistic, but this visual should help me read the ones languishing on my TBR. 7y
Andrew65 Looking good! Great drawings! 7y
DGRachel Thanks @Andrew65 ☺️ 7y
Kristy_K Love this idea. And the drawing! 7y
DGRachel Thanks @Kristy_K It took hours to do, so I think I‘ll save doing pages for other challenges for another day. 😂 7y
jpmcwisemorgan Oh I get it! I got maybe 30 read for Mount TBR. I‘d planned on 150. I have 200 books marked read on Goodreads this year, although I‘ve read far more than that (I‘m trying to keep the average page length around 250). I‘ve actually bought a couple of m|m romances in favorite series that I‘m not allowed to read until next year, AFTER I‘ve read some of TBR. They‘re rewards! 7y
robinb @DGRachel good strategy! I need to cut back on buying and whittle down my owned TBR. Gorgeous journaling! 😍 7y
DGRachel @robinb Thanks! 7y
mrozzz Great idea!! 7y
Schlinkles Fantastic! Totally inspiring me to make it through some of my TBR! 7y
Pamwurtzler Good idea! 7y
AceOnRoam Good luck with your plan, sounds like a great idea. 7y

Well, one good thing about the Litsy outage - I had no excuse not to start my new bullet journal. I‘ve never done a “fancy” layout, but I wanted a visual aid for my personal 2018 reading challenge. It‘s not super artistic, but it will work for me and do what I need it to do. 😊 That said - I MISSED YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!

JenlovesJT47 Didn't you feel like something was missing, like I dunno, a limb or something? 😆 Good news is I've caught up on some reading! #ihavealitsyaddiction 🙋🏻 7y
DGRachel @JenlovesJT47 YES! I read some, too. 7y
Ddzmini 😮 that looks awesome 7y

tomes4gnomes I‘ve been intrigued by the #bujo posts on Litsy, since I‘ve never heard of bullet journals. After some googling last night, now I really want to start one! 7y
Andrew65 Looking good, at least you used your time productively. Me, I hid in a book! 7y
DGRachel @Andrew65 I did a little bit of both. 😉 7y
TricksyTails This is what I "talked" about with @Clwojick doing during the outage! I really want to stick with it. I get too OCD with making it perfect and end up chucking it. Yours is already so pretty. Do you like those stencils? 7y
DGRachel @TricksyTails Thanks! I wish I had stencils. Right now I‘m just drawing books and shelves with a ruler. Glad my journal has dots on the page. That‘s helping. 7y
TricksyTails Oh! I thought the ruler was a stencil. I could never make mine so straight even with a ruler! I was online trying to see which journal to get. Do you like yours? 7y
TrishB I read.... but missed everyone... 7y
DGRachel @TricksyTails This is the first time I‘ve ever tried a proper bullet journal, but I do think I‘m going to like this one a lot. It‘s a Leuchtturm 1917. I love that it has an elastic band to keep it closed and has two ribbon bookmarks, not just one. 7y
TricksyTails Ooh yes! Good one to start with! Love those!! It's just when I start writing in it, it all gets ruined! 😂 7y
DGRachel @Ddzmini Thanks! @tomes4gnomes I‘ve been dying to do a layout for books. I don‘t think I‘ll ever do a proper daily/weekly/monthly one though. Way too much work to set up. 😂 7y
DGRachel @TrishB Hello my friend! 🙋🏻‍♀️ 7y
DGRachel @TricksyTails 😂😂 We won‘t discuss handwriting. This is probably going to be an exercise in “letting things go”. 7y
TrishB Hi 🙋 ❤️ 7y
Ddzmini I just bought a reading journal so that‘s my first step I know I couldn‘t do what you‘ve done it would look like some 1 year old did it 😂😂😂 7y
