Genghis: Bones of the Hills: A Novel

I completed my #Goodreads challenge yesterday! The way things were going the latter half of 2020 I knew I‘d never make it to 80 books, so a few months ago I changed it to 72 books. A few highlights from this year include giving my first 5⭐️ rating (Uprooted), reading my first audiobook (The Red Threads of Fortune), discovering new-to-me writers & reading more non-fiction and poetry.

I went through my physical shelves, trying to fill as many countries as I could for #readingasia2021, and I have two questions. (1) Does Hong Kong count for China, or does the book have to set on the mainland? (2) I have a historical fiction book that according to Goodreads takes place in Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, & Pakistan. Is it okay to use that book for one of those countries, even though the book is written by a white Englishman?

rwmg Can I recommend Shamini Flint's Inspector Singh series? The author is Malaysian and she writes mysteries starring Inspector Singh, a Singaporean detective who gets lent out to other countries' police forces (mainly because his bosses can't stand him). So he solves mysteries in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia, and India (also the UK though that's less relevant). 4y

Question: How many #bookchallenges do you usually do? How many are you planning this year? This year I did #booked2020 and #readharder2020. For next year I'm doing #booked2021 and the #botm one from Facebook. But I'm also looking at the Popsugar and wondering what Read Harder will have this year. Is 3 too much? Is 4 insane??

Scochrane26 I try not to do many challenges. My library will do a short one again this year, so that‘s probably the only one I‘ll choose. 4y

Soubhiville I have done several at the same time in the past and used the same book across all the challenges if it fit. It all depends on how much you read and how much of a mood reader you are. 4y

Laughterhp I always want to do them all, but I only end up actually doing 2. Otherwise I can‘t read any “fun” or impulse books and I get stressed out! 4y

Amandajoy I do 2 or 3, but try to make sure the books will overlap some. 4y

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick This is the first year I took part in any, but they were ones where my TBR filled most of the prompts. (The horoscope one, a couple summer bingos, bookspin, scarathlon, & winter games) I'll try to do them again next year and I'm looking at #booked2021 too. It'll work with some of my TBR but still encourage me to go out of my comfort zone a little bit. I may consult the pop sugar one and a couple others to diversify but not aim to get them all. 4y

nanuska_153 I think the best thing is start big with the intention of reducing it to one or two that you are truly enjoying, not point on stressing yourself with many that just become an obligation 4y

I created my own “challenge” for 2020 with monthly themes and for the most part, it worked well, giving me just enough structure for when I couldn‘t decide what to read next. I‘m creating a new one for 2021, but I also signed up for #readingasia2021 and #booked2021 because the 2020 versions looked like so much fun, I was a little sad I didn‘t try them. I probably won‘t finish either, but I couldn‘t stand to be left out again. #fomo is real. 🤣🤣

1. I upped my GR challenge by 5 but have already passed that by 9. 🤣 I‘m also trying to do the monthly #bookspin and #doublespin and am participating in a mystery #LMPBC group and a fiction #LMPBC group.

2. I will probably up my GR challenge again next year and also participate in the #bookspins and #LMPBCs. I tend to like to play it safe. 😊

Yep! I am doing it. For some reason I am addicted to challenges right now. However I am making up my own rules for mine. I am using books I have already read in May and June (May because that would have been when my summer break officially started and June because that is summer to me. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

AsYouWish Also I am going to say a book can count for more than one prompt, if needed. I am going to limit that to two books allowed for that. Super excited about this!!! #PopSugar2020 #ReadingChallenge #WhatAmIThinking 5y
