My chunkster of the year with my personal challenge. 🥰💛
1. Les Miserables. I watched two different versions of the musical on PBS. One version was live in London and another version had Nick Jonas in it. I also watched the movie and read the book. The musical is better though because it has music.
2. My favorite musical movie I watched recently was The Sound Of Music. I liked the music.
3. My other favorite musical movie is Beauty & The Beast. I liked the music.

Three cheers for another Chunkster Challenger! Great job, Jen -- I know from personal experience how much of a struggle this one can be to get through. Check it off your list! :)

So many hours of my life. Lol. #chunksterchallenge2022 @Amiable
@JenReadsAlot I saw we‘re both tackling Les Miserables for #ChunksterChallenge2022 I‘m wondering what you‘re plan is. I‘m going to be reading this Canterbury Classics copy which is a Hapgood transition. I was thinking I‘d aim to get through AT LEAST 1 book a week (my copy is broken into 47) and then I‘d have the option of spreading it through the whole year, or picking up the pace.

*I think I could be quite happy living in Paris. 🇫🇷
1. Nope. I've taught almost 2,000 students and hubby's a teacher in the area too. So sometimes we feel like pretend celebs out shopping.🤣
2. I hope to be thankful after the election. 🤞 I am thankful for clean air quality today and tomorrow in my part of the West coast.

For most of this book I felt it would be a so-so.
I enjoyed the bits with characters in, and some of the descriptive chapters. But sometimes Hugo went overboard with explaining some bits without any characters to help move the story along. There were a couple of time/story errors that threw me a little too. And I didn‘t feel like I was overly attached to any characters. However this changed towards the end, pushing it to a pick :)
#TBRCrew
Book 8: Fading away of the twilight and Book 9: Supreme shadow, supreme dawn
And the story reaches its conclusion.
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead #TBRCrew
Book 7: The last draught from the cup
Jean Valjean has confessed his identity. Not sure that was the best idea bud!
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead #TBRCrew
Book 6: The sleepless night
This book was too happy. Does that make sense? Like the calm before the storm. I have a horrible feeling someone may die or be terribly maimed... surely Hugo hasn‘t written a happy ending?
Also, doesn‘t M.Gillenormand love the sound of his own voice? Haha
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead #TBRCrew
Book 5: Grandson and Grandfather
I am still confused about M.Gillenormand being alive...
But he has mellowed and is allowing the marriage to go ahead. I wonder what is in store for Jean Valjean after this?
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead #TBRCrew
Book 4: Javert derailed
This is the first time I have felt bad for Javert...
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead #TBRCrew
Book 3: Mud but the soul
A trip through the sewer. The introduction of quicksand surprised me. Javert seems to be becoming more compassionate. And Marius has been returned to his grandfather. (I am a little confused here, as didn‘t his grandfather die after their last meeting???)
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead #TBRCrew
Book 2: The intestine of the leviathan
I found this book on the history of Parisian sewers surprisingly interesting. It reminded me a little of sections of Ghost Map (which is about John Snow and cholera in London) involving the sewage system.

Volume 5, Book one: The war between four walls
This one was long! Lots of characters coming together, lots leaving us. I am always surprised by the effect religion had on Jean Valjean. He is truly a good man as evidenced in this book.
I am behind on my buddy read now, but this is the month I will finish 😋
#TBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead #BigBooks #ReadingWithTBRCrew
Book 15: The Rue de l,homme arme
And volume 4 has been finished! I will be interested to see where the last volume takes me 😋
I am only a little behind now!
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead #TBRCrew
Book 14: The grandeurs of despair
Well, it was definitely an aptly named book!
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead
Book 13: Marius enters the shadow
Oh Marius. I do not remember ever being this dramatic when in love 🙄🤣
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead
Book 12: Corinthe
Things are heating up. Though I do feel for the unwilling participants such as the tavern owner, and the neighbours having foundations, beams, and pavements removed for barricades.
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead
Volume 4, book 11: The atom fraternizes with the hurricane
Little Gavroche is one of my favourite characters (after Jean Valjean of course).
And I have now reached the 75% mark, though I am slightly behind on this #BuddyRead which is due to finish this month!
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #LesMisBuddyRead
Book 10: The 5th of June, 1832
As I have said before, I find the chapters that are not character related a bit of a slog, and this book was no exception!
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead
Book 4: Enchantments and desolations
Poor M.Mabeuf :(
I am also intrigued to see if people are waiting for Marius as he was told, or if something more sordid is afoot!
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead
Book 8: Enchantments and desolations
Family can be difficult, especially when they don‘t say what they actually feel. Marius is very much the dreamer. I feel he needs a bit more direction in life, and Cosette is not helping that side of him!
Bonus pic of my reading buddy. He likes to lie on me in a morning, which means ebooks, so I can read over his shoulder on my phone! 🐶
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead #DogsOfLitsy
Book 7: Slang
Some of the discussion around the origins of slang was interesting. But this was another slow book for me!
Not sure I will finish volume 4 this month, but I will just breeze through the rest and volume 5 next month to make up :)

Virtual date with my husband watching this. I‘m so glad he isn‘t watching me ugly cry right now 😢.

OMG! I am so so glad that we did this as a buddy read! This has been on my TBR for a along time.. I had always been interested in it and thought I would enjoy it... But I am so so glad that I read it because.. well it was amazing!!! I need to get my hands on the movie (I have never seen it! So I know I am in for a huge treat -- husband had requested I focused on this one because he wanted to re-watch it with me)
So, yes fatherhood is not a central theme really but... Jean Val Jean became an amazing father to Cosette. So that's why I am going to use that for this prompt.

I am going to officially pick the prompt of “book in translation“ for this one.

Book 6: Little Gavroche
Not much to say for this without spoilers. I do feel sorry for Gavroche and the 2 little ‘brats‘ he has taken in
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead
This made me super sad 😞

Book 5: The end of which does not resemble the beginning
When we first met Marius I quite liked him, but love (or more accurately I think, obsession) does not look well on him. I have a feeling that things will go badly for him and Cosette...
Does anything in this book work out as you hope? Haha
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead
Book 4: Succor from below may turn out to be succor from on high
A quick book this time. Nice to see some of Gavroche again

Book 3: The house in the Rue Plumet
Jean Valjean is definitely my favourite person in this book :)

Book 2: Eponine
Eponine is an interesting character. I wonder how she would have turned out if she was raised by people other than the Thernadiers 🤔

A new month, means moving onto the next volume of Les Mis for the #ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead
Volume 4 - Saint-Denis: The idyll in the Rue Plumet and the epic in Rue Saint-Denis
Book 1: A few pages of history
I am looking forward to watching the film after the #LesMisBuddyRead is complete and actually having a grasp on all the various people and events! So far there hasn‘t been a whole lot of action, but it‘s definitely brewing!

Volume 3, Book 8: The Wicked Poor Man
Soooo much happened in this final book of the volume (Marius). And all the characters we have met have joined back together for the final chapter. This has been my favourite book so far, and I am looking forward to continuing with Volume 4 next month ☺️
#ReadingWithTBRCrew #BuddyRead #LesMisBuddyRead
Why did it take me so long to read this masterpiece of literature? This book was fantastic, the interweaving of the characters into the story was beautifully done. The complete story was overall superb. Without a doubt one of my favorite books. 5/5

Volume 3, Book 7: Patron-Minette
A quick book introducing us to a gang. They do not sound like men you would want to bump into!
And since there was only one illustration for this book, there is also a picture of my reading buddy who is fast asleep 🥰

Volume 3, Book 6: The conjunction of two stars
This book moved much quicker than the others. Young love ❤️ shame it is so creepy! It may be his first love, but damn it Marius, I thought you were cool.
