Ok so this story is cute but I have some issues with it. First being WILD ANIMALS SHOULD REMAIN WILD! Nobody should be allowed to buy a wild animal, let alone children. Ok I get the Pony Penning was for population control, but come on now. As innocent as this story was intended to be, I personally found it to give off the wrong message to younger readers.
Maybe I'm being too harsh on this book I don't know, but it just rubbed me the wrong way.

LibrarianRyan I agree. I hated this book. I didn‘t read it until I was an adult. All the kids love it, and it‘s considered a classic and I‘m just like gag. No thank you! 4mo
LibrarianRyan And it‘s a SERIES! 4mo
sammisho I loved it when I was a girl. Doesn't every girl go through a horse phase? I haven't read since then, wonder what I would think of it now. 4mo

My husband and I closed on a house on Friday. My husband's grandfather built the place, so we're happy to keep it in the family. Hank ( seen reading with my mother-in-law) approves.

On a mini vacation in Chincoteague and after visiting my first love, Island Creamery for ice cream, we hit up two bookstores. I‘ve been here a handful of times and have never read Misty yet, so no better time than the present. 🐴

robinb I remember this on our shelves while growing up but don‘t remember ever reading it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 1y
CaitZ I read all her books as a kid. I still want to visit Chincoteague some day because of them. 1y

MCYmermaid It‘s a reread. I was a horse book kid! I can‘t remember which Litten posted something else Herrmann had read, but it motivated me to explore. 1y

2. My Winnie the Pooh bear.
3. I have to go with the old aluminium foil TV dinners that had to be cooked in the oven. Salisbury steak was my favourite.

2. I collected Breyer horses. Apparently they're worth something now.
3. Chimichangas! They're fried burritos. What's not to love? 🌯
4. Don't make me choose!

xicanti I sold my Breyer collection a few years back and ended up making quite a bit off it. The quality's slipped with the ones they produce now, so people get really excited about the models from the early 2000s and before. 2y

The #oldestbooks on my bookshelves are my Marguerite Henry books. My uncle gave them to me when I was little. Like most little girls, I had a pony phase, though I've donated most of my horse books since then. These I've kept, though. They have sentimental value AND they were always my favorites. #febinbooks18 @bookisglee

This was my favourite book in elementary school. I'm pretty sure I borrowed it from the library continuously. Haven't read it since I was 10 or 11.

LibrarianRyan Did you read the rest of the series? 2y
Crash No, I haven't. I didn't know about the rest of them until a few years ago. I might just take a trip down memory lane and get them. 2y

Yesterday's #bookmail!

I haven't been able to locate my copy of Misty of Chincoteague for a while now (I think it's in a box I've yet to open but can't be certain), so when I found a great deal on #ThriftBooks, I couldn't pass it up. Looking forward to getting into this one very soon.

This was one of my mom's childhood favorites and I'm glad I read it. Horse-lovers will particularly love it. I love getting glimpses of childhood at other times in our history. The kids in this books are given so much freedom and are responsible for a lot of hard work. Worth reading!
