Bk5 of July is done! The 10th book of WOT & The world is rapidly moving toward Tarmon Gai‘don & while Rand has cleansed saidin, men who can channel are still distrusted. Mat has escaped Ebou Dar with Tuon but finds keeping a High Lady more difficult than he feared. Perrin is making a deal with the enemy to rescue Faile & Elayne is fighting for Andors crown. Four more books to go! #BookspinBingo #SeriesLove2023 #ChunksterChallenge2023

Another one done!! Did both audio book and physical to crank it out. Bit of a dull one but still managed to be engaging.

Now this one deserved to be put in the category of "The Slog". There was some good character development, especially with Perrin and Mat, but the plot didn't seem to move forward that much from where we left out characters at the end of Winter's Heart. One good thing about the book is that it showed how the recent event at the end of WH impacted the rest of the world. It will be interesting to see how the alliances forged will play out.

I made some good progress on the little ornament while I finished CROSSROADS OF TWILIGHT. This is the last of the books I read as they were released, and the moment I finished it I vowed I wouldn‘t come back to the series until it was complete and in paperback. Because y‘all? Very little happens here, and the hardcover was LONG and HEAVY and TROUBLESOME. The ebook (and, most recently, the audiobook) went much better for me. #audiostitching

Yawn! This was very much a "bridge" book. The Big Event that closed out Book 9 is revisited here half a dozen times, from the viewpoint of multiple factions spread across the world, as we see what they were doing and what their reaction was when it occurred. It's an effective narrative device given how huge and momentous the Event was, but still, it takes up the first 300 pages of the book, and the rest is just build up to the inevitable climax ?

The_Penniless_Author ...just over the horizon. More has happened in the first half of the prologue of Book 11 than all of Book 10. Still, I'm through "The Slog"! From here on out things are only going to get better. Can't wait to see how this massive series ends; I feel like I know the characters personally at this point. 2y

I wish I could have liked the tenth novel of the Wheel of Time series. The minimal amount of Rand throughout it was a refreshing and much needed change of pace. However, as someone who has been looking for a final intense all encompassing battle with the Seanchan, I was quite disappointed with the prospect of a partnership with the slave holding abusive witches that the book eludes to.

I liked this one and didn‘t feel bogged down or bored at all during my time reading. I can understand the criticism about there not being any big events during this installment but sometimes just following friends around is good without everything being high stakes.

I‘ve also finished Bks 8-A Path Of Daggers, Bk9-Winters Heart & Bk10-Crossroads Of Twilight of my #audiobook #reread of #TheWheelOfTime. It‘s been much quicker(and easier on my head)listening to these doorstopper novels & just as enjoyable. This series is still my favourite high fantasy series of all time and always will be I think. I really hope they don‘t screw up the tv adaptation!🤞

Finished book ten in the Wheel of Time series, and just as with the previous installment, next to nothing happens despite the needlessly inflated word count. I‘ve come to the conclusion that this series has devolved into the literary equivalent of crab legs. It‘s good, but it‘s far too much effort for too little meat. #WheelOfTime #RobertJordan #WheresTheDamnCliffsNotes

Kimberlone The crab legs metaphor 🤣 but it is worth the effort if you‘re eating Alaskan king crab 🦀 5y
BillBlume @Kimberlone haha! So noted, and I‘m hoping the series, as a whole, will also prove worth the effort. One of the many reasons I‘ll push on to book eleven. 5y

I made the decision to go with the audiobook for this installment of “The Wheel of Time” series, and I‘m liking the readers, a husband and wife team. The previous book ended with an attempt to cleanse saidin of the taint that drives men insane. I am more than halfway through this book and STILL no scene to show if it worked. Jordan loves to waste time giving the life history of every character who so much as sneezes in the POV‘s presence. 🙄 #WTF

Day 7 of the #WriterNerds challenge. Favorite literary quote
There are SO many I quote all the time from "Dragons love pie?" To "Chocolate. Eat it, it helps."

For whatever reason, this quote by Mat from Wheel of Time was the first to pop into my head. So I went with it, but I have to say (so none of the other quotes feel left out) it isn't my all-time favorite. ?

BarbaraJean It‘s my first time reading it as well! I felt like it reeeeeeally dragged in the middle—from about books 9-11. But it‘s my husband‘s favorite series so I kept going. The ending to book 12 made it worthwhile! I love how deeply so many of the characters have been developed over the course of the series. 6y
jfalkens @BarbaraJean I loved all the books so far! I don't always get thru them as fast as I wanted, I've had two burn-outs on reading this year(not related to WoT) where I couldn't focus on reading. I love the character and world building! The characters are so many that sometimes I get confused who they are, especially if it's a small minor character who turns out to be more important than you thought lol 6y

Bk10 of #TheWheelOfTimeXmasReread after this there‘s only four more books to go, three of those unfortunately written by Brandon Sanderson. Don‘t get me wrong, I like his books, but his style is sooo different from Jordan‘s writing. It‘s like whoever made the decision went with the most famous writer instead of a writer with a similar style to the other books.🤷🏻‍♀️

Here's my semi-accurate Goodreads year in books! My actual total is 74, but the way Goodreads handles re-reads throws off the total a bit. This was a banner year for me--I don't think I've ever read this many books in a year and I #blamelitsy. 😏Also, a LOT of these were comics or kids/YA. I have an obsessive method of adjusting for length/reading level (re-reads, kids/YA, and comics count less) and under that system, my total adjusts down to 48.

Hey, look! Jordan finally figured out how to NOT include the phrase "underneath her breasts" in a description of a woman folding her arms. ? It only took him nine books to get to this point.

OSChamberlain 😂😂😂 under her breasts?? That's a silly way to describe it. 8y
BarbaraJean @OSChamberlain - And yet he does it every. single. time. He seems compelled to point out each action's breast-related proximity. See also: descriptions of necklaces, and wounds sustained by women during battle. 😳😂 8y
OSChamberlain Sounds like a totally uninformed author about how women perceive their own actions 🙄 8y
BarbaraJean @OSChamberlain - Yep! He has certain writing tics that annoy me- repetitive identifiers like these get old fast. The redeeming factor is that he does have several fantastic, independent, active female characters. 8y
