A remarkably coherent account of what happened on 9/11, grounded by the stories of people who survived and those who died. A must-read.

If you like The Only Plane in the Sky read this one next. I try to read at least one book based on 9/11 every year. This one gutted me.😞
You know the phrase, “it‘s not you, it‘s me”? I‘ve never had this before with a book, but on today‘s anniversary of 9/11, I have decided to put this book back on my shelves. Don‘t get me wrong, this book is very good, and is incredibly well-written. However, I‘ve always had a hard time reading non-fiction books and I‘ve spent the past year trying to read this with no avail. I will try this one again one day as its history is so important.
This is so good, and so difficult to read. It tells the stories of several people involved in the events of 9/11: plane passengers, pilots, first responders, people trapped in buildings. It's told roughly in the order of before, during & after the attacks. So many tragedies & so many miracles. #nonfiction #history #911
Commemorating the 20th anniversary of 9/11. This book vividly brings back the horror of that day.
This is really, really good, and I'm sorry I started reading it. Just devastating. #nonfiction #history #911
This past week has honestly been terrible I can feel my mental health flagging. So despite real feel temps in the 90s and constant humidity, I‘m going to hang out with my books underneath a tree in my backyard with a jug full of icy lemon-mint water (mint from my landscaping!) and try to remind myself to take deep breaths.
I am very meticulous and demanding with my star ratings. A book has to be very special to earn a 5-star rating from me. Some years I don‘t give out any 5-star ratings. This year I had three. These are the ones that met my high standards this year.

I‘m always happy when my current 3x3 grid contains a 5* read, and the tagged is a beautiful document of that tragic day. This year on Goodreads I rounded my 4.75 (Solid A) up to a 5, as well.
5* = Loved It, want non-reader IRL friends to read. I do/will own a physical copy. A+
4*= I liked it, would love to discuss. Solid B
3*=Meh, no need to discuss. Average C
2*=Nope D
1*=DNF F
I realized reading this, there were voters in this election that were not yet born on this day. Wow, seemed like yesterday as I read this. It‘s so hard to read, yet so important to document.

This is also my #SuperSeptember TBR. Hope to get 24 hours in.
My August reading total came out to 14 books. Pictured is a sampling of this month‘s reading. Not my best but better than I expected, with the start of school and all that it involves.
With September starting, I‘m looking forward to cozy reading as the weather cools. 🍁
Holy crap! I am speechless! As a 9 year old living in NYC during this horrifying day, I‘ve dedicated my life to remembering it! Enlisting in the Marine Corps at 17, before graduating HS, and leaving for boot camp 16 days after graduation, I continued that dedication through today. This book is unlike any other I‘ve read about 9/11. Painful, heartbreaking, but absolutely beautifully written and personal! HIGHLY recommend! #WeWillNeverForget
I guess it is a good thing that I live in a city where people don‘t look strangely at you if you are walking around with tears in your eyes but I really need to pick a lighter audiobook soon. This was every bit as incredible as you have all been saying, a 5 ⭐️ read for sure, but man was it brutal. I was expecting it but it still took my breathe away all the same.
I have no idea why January is such a shitty month. Maybe it‘s because all the distractions of the holidays are over and all you can do is count the days until Spring.

Ugh. I held it together for 445 pages. Then I hit this passage. While attempting to rescue victims in the WTC on 9/11, FDNY Captain Jay Jonas was trapped for several hours in Stairway B when the North Tower came down. After being freed, he then had to WALK many blocks back to his fire station because the collapse had crushed his firetruck. This is what happened as he trudged through Chinatown.
And suddenly... a flood of tears. 😢
I've been avoiding this book for a long time but am grateful to have finally picked it up thanks to #newyearwhodis. Remembering 9/11 is always difficult, but in doing so Zuckoff also commemorates the everyday heroes and their astounding acts of courage that day💙
Currently listening to this at work and struggling not to cry at my desk. @Cinfhen I hate you a little bit right now for recommending this audiobook. 😘 😭 😭
Thank you Mitchell Zuckoff and Harper Collins audio for presenting the most comprehensive yet compassionate account of 9/11. Many times throughout the audio I was brought to tears. A moving and elegant tribute to victims, survivors, rescue workers, responders, loved ones, and ordinary citizens who played either a large part or small part that day. Even during the darkest of times, human kindness shone bright. Five stars and an #InfiniteTissueRead
Im back to hosting/ running a bed & breakfast for friends and family🙄 so today has been a total audio day. I can‘t believe how intimate this book feels. I‘ve had to hit pause several times so I could compose myself or find a tissue 😭😭😭 So much bravery and compassion on a day full of incomprehensible evil.
#Audible Today‘s listen 🎧unbelievably comprehensive yet intimate and personal. A MUST for everyone #NeverForget #Honor911
This book was every emotion possible.
Anger, joy, sorrow, hate, fear, sadness, anxiety...
It is an important book. This author makes sure we never forget.
Narrative non-fiction at its best! The minute-by-minute story of 9/11, not from a political or historical perspective, but from the perspective of the humans most affected by this devastating event. I loved it, and read this tome in just 2 days. However, if you or someone you know were personally involved, it may be too soon for you to relive that traumatic day through this book.

Book: Fall and Rise
Movie: United 93
Song: You‘re So Vain
I am shocked to see that I read 16 books in May. It felt like a slower reading month. And last time I checked, I was 14 books behind in the GR annual challenge. 🤦🏼♀️
I read 8 physical books, 5 audiobooks, and 3 ebooks. Standouts were Calypso and Fall and Rise.
I know this is going to be a tough book.
Unlike today, social media wasn't around. I was at work in Gwinnett County, GA when my coworker ran in the building screaming that a plane had hit one of the towers. We didn't believe her. So we huddled around a radio because the internet was slow. WSB750AM confirmed ir.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is hailed as the definitive account of 9/11. Every other book I‘ve read about 9/11 has a pretty narrow focus, understandably. This one spends 500 pages laying out everything from that day, and picks various people as the lens through which to tell the story. I love narrative nonfiction, and this is a perfect example of how it can be used to write such a monumental history in an accessible, humanistic way.
Reading is better at the lake. 🥰
Recent book acquisitions:
I‘m SO excited about the Zuckoff book. He wrote Lost in Shangri La, and now has a new book about 9/11. I loved Shangri La and I love reading books about 9/11, so I requested this as soon as I heard about it.
Junie B is G‘s new favorite. We read the first book and it‘s the first chapter book she really liked.
The I Survived series was super popular with the older kids at the book fair, so I grabbed these two!
