I never get tired of this classic, but the reread was more fun this time around, as part of #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead. Reading this makes me want to visit Prince Edward Island again.

This was on my tbr, I bought it years ago because the cover is pretty. To be honest,I found Anne irritating as a child, she is a Pollyanna with an attitude, and it can be difficult to read while rolling your eyes. Made me feel old to understand better Marilla! But as the book progressed I found that, like Marilla, I had grown fond of her. Overall, it is an easy feel good read and if I find a nice edition of the second one might follow the series

I can‘t believe I‘ve never read this book before…

IndoorDame It‘s one of the ones I‘d love to read for the first time all over again! 7mo
dabbe I haven't either. It's on my TBR for this year! 😀 7mo
ImperfectCJ I read the series as a child because I watched (and loved) the miniseries with Megan Follows and Richard Farnsworth. Then I read it again with my kids, and found elements I'd not noticed as a child. I love books that have different significance at different stages of life! (We also took a family road trip to Prince Edward Island one year. I'm somewhat embarrassed when I do touristy things, but the trip was awesome!) 7mo
Princess-Kingofkings @ImperfectCJ My daughter loves the series. In fact, when my Mama was dying in December, my daughter read to my Mama from her book. My mother did take a trip there years ago. It has been fun to text my daughter as I read. (edited) 7mo

Perfectly charming. I listened to the Sandra Oh/Catherine O‘Hara version and it was fantastic.

CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian I don't have audible but I am very tempted by this! Who does Sandra Oh play? Rachel Lynde? 9mo
Shemac77 It was wonderful! I can‘t recommend it more. Sandra Oh was the narrator and she was perfect. @CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian 9mo
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @Shemac77 oh of course there needs to be a narrator, that makes sense! Maybe I'll do an audible trial... 9mo

Shemac77 I didn‘t realize it needed a narrator until I started listening. I have a love/hate with audible. This was the first book I truly enjoyed on audible. I generally only listen to books I‘ve already read or books I have no interest in buying. It‘s background noise for me; enough to keep my brain occupied but also able to do other things. @CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian 9mo
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @Shemac77 I am currently listening to a lot of audiobooks since I have a newborn baby and can listen to them while breastfeeding. Same as you ,to keep my brain occupied! But I always get them from the library. Unfortunately anything that's audible exclusive you can only get there obviously! I am kind of loathe for pay for audiobooks though. 9mo
Shemac77 Congratulations!! I don‘t blame you for not wanting to pay for them. I will say it‘s worth it to trial audible for this version. (In my opinion). And this version is in the free catalogue. 9mo

5✨ I was trying to finish this before the month was over, but I was enjoying it slowly. This was a fun read of an orphaned girl who by chance warms the hearts of her adopters who wanted a boy to help them as they aged. Anne has a wonderful imagination, and talks very well for a young lady. You see a lot of her growth in this book. I‘m just upset I didn‘t read this sooner.

Leave it to you, Christie, to notice my chagrin at having never read this book and to alleviate it! What an incredibly thoughtful gift. And the Canadian Antiques Roadshow! #yahoo! Please tell me you're in it, too! I can't wait to read and watch! I also have a LONG response to pen soon! To say I'm grateful to have found you through #LL is the understatement of the year. Thank you, and happiest of holidays, dear friend. 💙❄️💙

TheLudicReader Haha. I am not in it…although you may see me wandering through the shot. You will definitely see my name in the credits (as McDonald) and I wrote the liner notes. Saint John is also the first show ever, so you will see a little of my home town, too. Enjoy. And Merry Christmas! 😘😘 12mo

I know that this is probably hard to believe, but I have never read the Anne of Green Gables Series. I‘m interested in finally reading this next year. Since I have never read the series I‘m not sure if I should start here or if there is a better starting spot you guys would suggest. Either way, who would be interested in reading this with me? I‘m also open to suggestions on if we should read a book a month, chapter a day, or another way.

Kimberlone You should definitely start with Anne of Green Gables! Even if you don‘t end up continuing with the series, this is the classic (and imo the best) of all of them. 12mo
Ruthiella I agree with @Kimberlone that it‘s best to start with Anne of Green Gables. 12mo

This is my first time reading this classic story. The new Audible Original production is free to members! I was immediately struck by this wonderful story. I understand why so many readers express significant love for Anne and the gorgeous setting of Prince Edward Island. I truly adored Anne and her wild adventures. Audible‘s production is amazing!

Not exactly a book review, but we are getting a new puppy and wondered whether anyone here could propose a literary male name of a lovely character. Our current dog is Gilbert, after Gilbert Blythe, who I have loved completely since I was 8. My current list is Pip, Huckleberry, Jem, Wilbur, Westley or Samwise. Any other suggestions?

nanuska_153 If you like the Neverending Story there's a good few lovable characters there, I like the name Atreyu or Bastian, but there's also Artax. Of the ones that you said Pip is a great option, and any LoTR is great, I see that you picked Sam, but may I say, if you were to plan for the future, you could call one Arathorn, and when he has puppies you call one Aragon and you can tell people HE IS ARAGORN SON OF ARATHORN YOU OWE HIM YOUR ALLIANCE 😑😂 13mo
mjtwo 😂😂Thanks @nanuska_153 . We do love LOTR. My husband is keen on Pippin - and if I call him Pip, I cover Dickens too. Neverending Story is a good suggestion also - I read it to my oldest child but have forgotten to read it to the younger. 13mo
dabbe Joe is my all-time favorite character from GREAT EX and perhaps all of literature. I also love Wart (soon to be Arthur) in THE ONCE AND FUTURE KING. The other choices are excellent, too. And you just can't go wrong with Pip. Then you could be Joe and say to him, “Ever the best of friends, Pip!“ 🤩🤩🤩 13mo
See All 7 Comments
nanuska_153 @mjtwo also Pippin has the advantage of allowing you to call him Pip when he is a good boy and fool of a Took when he is a bad boy 😂 13mo
mjtwo @dabbe 😂😂 Joe is my favourite too, but doesn‘t seem like a dog‘s name. I do so love him though - I wish I were as good as Joe 13mo
mjtwo @nanuska_153 Fool of a Took is perfect! I can see that being said a lot around here. 13mo

I was SUPPOSED to read the AOGG series for the #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead but didn‘t quite make it. But after finishing the Emily series and Chronicles of Avonlea, I decided I was going to read the series anyway, and committed to reading a chapter or 2 a day. Lo and behold, I got sucked in and finished book 1 already! There is something so comforting about this series and it really does give you the warm fuzzies. I‘m excited because I haven‘t ⬇️

Suuuuch a lovely book! ?
I eatched the Netflix series before reading the book, and I knew that some passages might not be in it, but it's still a really nice, kind of "innocent" read.
The only thing I "regret" is that the story moves REALLY fast at the end, but I prefer this ending to the Netflix ending ☺️
This is the first book… out of 9!! ? Idk if I'll read the whole series hahaha
