It was entertaining but maybe I was expecting more from the main character. I didn‘t like the romance in the novel, maybe because there is a conflict of interest? Too soon? The mystery was okay but the closure...too easy/convenient ? Abrupt?🤷🏽♀️ 3 ⭐️ But I will continue the series, I own already various books from this series.
#ReadAway2024 #SeriesLove2024 #InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR I like the mystery, the aspect of the police procedural of one possible future. I like Eve Dallas, Feeney, and their commander. I like Galahad the cat. I dislike the villains, which, of course, I was meant to do. I don‘t think of the woman who made a pie with arsenic and told her husband not to eat it a villain. There is such a thing as justifiable homicide. I did not like (cont)⬇️
This was our first #BuddyRead #InDeathLongReadathon. I had read this previously in 2016 and loved it. It was so much fun to revisit these characters. Can't wait for the second one Glory in Death. I got a bingo spot in the #ISpyBingoJanuary and it qualifies for a few #Reathatons. Thank you @StayCurious for co hosting with me. I appreciate all the work you do.

#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Ch.20: What a fight and what a way to end the book! Eve and Roarke have started something and we‘ll see where it goes in future books. As for the Deblass case - it was a tough one that opened up wounds old and new. Eve took it to heart and saw it through. We‘ll see that she takes each case to heart because that‘s just who she is. Who will she meet along the way? Stay tuned! ⬇️
Why has it taken me this long to read this???
I greatly enjoyed this first in the In Death series. Eve is a flawed character, who has amazing intuition and is very methodical in her thinking. I‘m anxious to see how she develops over the course of this #InDeathLongReadalong . Roarke is interesting; some of his actions towards Eve made me frown, but he‘s also flawed.
I‘m ready for book two!
#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Ch.18-19: Eve learns of the horrible things that happened in the Deblass family, things that mirror what happened to Eve in some ways. The senator‘s daughter reveals what went on behind closed doors to both her and Sharon. It‘s enough to allow Eve to arrest the hypocritical old man. Afterwards, Eve reveals a bit about her past to Roarke and is able to lean on him for a bit. ⬇️
I liked the concept and some of the characters, but this was overall a so-so read for me. The Evil Conservative trope got really old. And I just wasn't a fan of the way some of the storyline played out. I'm still planning to read the second book on the strength of how well I like Roberts's other writing, but we'll see how that books goes before I decide if I'm going to wade through the whole series.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Mom has been trying to get me to read this series for a while now. The #InDeathLongReadalong with @StayCurious gave me the perfect time to dig in.
We are almost through with the first, but my lack of impulse control made me finish the final chapters tonight. Can‘t wait for book #2
#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Ch.17: things are happening rapidly now. Chief Simpson is going down (although he doesn‘t look good for the murders); Eve finds Sharon‘s diaries with the help of Charles Monroe, and an anonymous call from a terrified woman brings her to the Deblass home. Dark family secrets are coming to light - ugly secrets that hit too close to home for Eve. Will she be able to hold it together and do what needs to be done?
#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Ch.16: Eve discovers another few layers to Roarke - he loves reading, and he‘s also a tech geek - and seriously good at it. Together they hack into the chief‘s files and find some discrepancies that they pass on to the reporter, Nadine. Eve feels bad about crossing the line, but she‘s also grateful that she had Roarke to turn to in order to get things done. Also, we catch a glimpse of Eve‘s past when she has a nightmare
#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Ch.15: Eve is surprised to see Roarke still at her apt in the morning. She expected him to be gone but he stuck around, and he tells her he‘s sticking around for a while. He thinks he loves her so she‘d better get used to that. Their discussion here grows serious. Someone from Eve‘s past did hurt her and she‘s starting to remember. Warning for new readers: as Eve starts to delve into her past, it will be tough to read⬇️
Just finished this … had to switch from paperback to kindle because hubby was sleeping but I finally read the first book and loved the it‘s set in the future yet is really relatable to the present with police have body cameras and utilizing technology great characters I really enjoyed 😊📚 now I get to read the rest of books 🤪 which is about 45(?) excited 😜
#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Ch.14: Both Eve and Roarke have trust issues. Both Eve and Roarke care about each other. And this makes them vulnerable to each other. When Eve is forced to do her job and bring Roarke in for questioning, he is less than pleased and the tenuous connection they have made is threatened. ⬇️
#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Ch.14: Another murder and this time, a weapon registered to Roarke is found on scene. An obvious plant, especially because Roarke is off planet at the time of murder. But the killer wouldn‘t have known that. Only a select few were privy. Unfortunately to do her job and clear Roarke, Eve needs to bring him in for questioning. Will this hurt the progress they‘ve made in trusting each other? ⬇️
-A change of format to help me keep up.
-I‘m starting to be overwhelmed with the number of characters. New reporter and police douche Simpson
-I get a kick out of every trip to Va/Richmond as that is my home town.

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Sorry for the late post! Ch.11. Eve‘s butt is on the line. Her career is at risk, almost as much as her heart is. She could be hung out to dry, and if she goes down, Feeney and her commander could suffer as well. Who is keeping tabs on her? How‘d they know where she spent the night? And why do the higher ups want a cover up? Political gain and financial benefits are at play here. ⬇️
#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Eve and Roarke‘s relationship status is “beyond complicated” and now…things have definitely escalated. She did it - she crossed the line. She mixed up her career and her personal life and now there‘s no going back. Could she? Would she if it were possible? ⬇️
#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Ch.9: so when you piss off a senator, he pulls strings and forces you to see a shrink. We meet Dr. Mira, who is sophisticated, calm, insightful and who loves tea. We learn a bit about Eve‘s first eight years of life. She represses a lot of horrible memories. Triggered by the brutal testing process and her own past, she goes to a bar to see Mavis perform and douse her feelings in alcohol. ⬇️
She woke in the dark and then the librarians arrived.
#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Ch.8: Eve and Feeney are forced to travel to East Washington to update the Senator. Like they don‘t have anything better to do. Luckily, Eve takes the opportunity to visit the first victim‘s parents who tell her Sharon always kept diaries. Was that what the killer was looking for when he returned to the apartment? ⬇️
#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Ch.7: Returning to the first crime scene, Eve catches on that the killer may have come back to Sharon‘s apartment- what was he looking for? And did he find it? She finds Roarke waiting for her in her apartment - bold move Roarke - and also the killer‘s latest video has been left. ⬇️
#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Ch.6: another murder and how long before the next? We see how Eve as a person gets upset over how young the second victim was. She might be a bad ass cop but she is also vulnerable and human. Eve goes to Roarke and they exchange heated words. She admits that she doesn‘t think it was him but he still has to remain a suspect - despite her feelings. Roarke shows that he‘s starting to care for her as well ⬇️
I saw that a group here was reading this series. I read these, maybe the first 15 or so, years ago, back in the 90‘s and loved them. Thought I‘d reread the first one so I listened to this today. I love a mystery series, and this one is wonderful - takes place in the future and has a bit of romance as well as a great mystery. I may have to continue this series!
#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Ch.5: When all you want is a candy bar and instead you walk in on a robbery. This scene does a great job of showing how badass Eve really is. After such a tough day, Eve, despite protestations, can‘t deny herself a swanky steak dinner and she has dinner with Roarke. And more - a quick but steamy kiss that goes way against her rules.
#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Ch.4: Eve tries to create a scenario in which Roarke is guilty, but she finds it difficult. He‘s certainly arrogant enough to have done it, then to sit with her and calmly drink coffee- but she can‘t make herself believe he‘s guilty. Still, she might suggest he get a psych evaluation - ha! Good luck with that, Eve. Will you return his coffee gift at the same time? Doubtful. (How romantic was that gift btw?) ⬇️
#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Ch.3: we finally meet Roarke and Eve falls for his coffee right away. And she is drawn to Roarke despite herself. But she knows that he is dangerous. And could be connected to her case more than he is letting on. Will his smooth talking abilities sway her? He is very precise when it comes to his alibi and frankly everything he says is smooth - he matches her word for word and she finds herself outmatched. ⬇️
#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Ch.2: our first glimpse of the enigmatic Roarke. And already, Eve is fascinated despite herself. We meet some other potential suspects: the victim‘s bully of a grandfather, his slippery aide, and Charles, the victim‘s neighbour and high end prostitute. Sharon had a lot of people in her life - but which one of them could be guilty?
I have somehow found myself in two buddy reads and I have a regular read. This pace is going to be interesting.
#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong @StayCurious @LiseWorks @LiseWorks
#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR @LiseWorks Ch.1: Right away we are pulled into the futuristic world through little details - like the mention of droids, an auto chef, air traffic, a Tele link, - remember this was written in the mid nineties before even cellphones were really popular and I think Nora does a good job of world building. As you read on in the series, these things become second nature. ⬇️
I‘ve had this series on my radar for years! I am a huge Nora Roberts fan - a superhero for libraries! - and I just never took the time to read her alter ego.
Ready to dive into the #InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR .
I jumped in early because I‘m a slow reader who is also impatient. I'm not sure what kind of format we will follow if any so I'm just throwing this out here.

Hey #Littens - @LiseWorks and I are planning a re-read of this futuristic detective series and are wondering if anyone wants to join in a low-key stress-free join-when-you-want buddy read. We would do one book per month (so we‘re talking a few years here 😂). Would this be of interest to anyone? I know there are dozens of buddy reads but this series is so good! Mind the trigger warnings though - it can be graphic. Let us know your thoughts!
I'm still feeling icky from covid but tired of comfort rereads so I figured I'd start something easily bingeable. I can see why this series is so popular. I liked Lt Dallas and her determination to get the job done. It was hard to remember that this was first written in 1995. It seemed to be eerily fitting to today's socio-political climate.
This is a good murder mystery that keeps you guessing, with a strong female protagonist. A detective investigates a series of murders of prostitutes. As she tries to work through a mess of politics to solve the case, she becomes involved with one of the main suspects, which is problematic for several reasons. Set slightly in the future but nothing too crazy except cars that can fly to get around traffic.
October 27 #ScarathlonDailyPrompts Death This is the best series ever. There are a lot in this series. It seems years ago since I read this one the first in the series. @StayCurious #TeamMonsterMash

Had to go with my favorite series of all time - the In Death series by J.D. Robb.

I‘ve always wanted to see the In Death series made into a show, it‘s been optioned several times but never happened. However, every Nora Roberts book adaptation has been trash, so I would be hesitant too.
