I am so used to having great characters by this author and I was disappointed. I felt for Charlie but he didn't feel dangerous like you would expect in this situation. Secondary characters were pretty flat. I wasn't worried for them.
I love hostage stories - they are usually so thrilling. Not this one. People were just telling stories and babbling, I was super disappointed.
I waited all the time that something would happen. And there didn't.
This was interesting. I wanted to read because I knew King had chosen to stop it‘s publication, and I was curious. It‘s fascinating to see this glimpse into a more innocent time (in school shootings), and the idea of how students might have reacted to a school shooting. Now we can look back and say nope, not like that, but it‘s intriguing in a Lord of the Flies way. I also thought the ending, while not what I expected, was really good.
I‘m not sure how to feel about this one. King famously asked for this novella to fall out of publication, so it enjoys an allure as most King fans try to locate/read it. I was pulled into the story at first despite it‘s uncomfortable subject matter, but was left disappointed and confused with the ending. There are no redeeming characters or meaning. Ultimately, I think King was right to pull this story. It doesn‘t add anything to his omnibus. 2⭐️
Can't tell you how stoked I am to FINALLY have a copy of Rage to read so I can continue my Stephen King chronological saga. This was a hard one to find. Thankfully MelCat came to the rescue because a used copy of this book ran anywhere from $500-$1250 online 😵💫

Forgoing a discussion of the obvious - King let this go out of print for a reason, and I'm glad he did - I'm not sure I loved this. When you solely consider the dynamics of Charlie's interactions with his peers, this comes off as a ham-fisted attempt to lionize the tortured, misunderstood academic, and position them as superior to society's trappings and representatives. I'm all for this when it's done right, but this book failed to deliver. 1/5
Little man is killing it with his new day care routine so I finally sat down to finish this short story!
I'm not sure how I feel about it. Most of the story is a bit tedious but that ending....wow! I'm still a little confused but wasn't expecting that at all.

I've recently decided to start actively annotating some of my books and my pretty new highlighters showed up today 😊 Still not sure where to start but I'm looking forward to having some colourful fun!
I have my niece and nephew visiting this weekend and with two active toddlers I am BEAT! Taking a bit of break during nap time to have a snack, watch some Circle and get into some Rage 😁

April was 4 days long lol. No bingo but I got my #bookspin and #doublespin. Included is my May #bookspinbingo.
The tagged was amazing!
Stephen King voluntarily took this out of publication after school shootings became more common. But I think it‘s worth reading. We spend a tense morning in a classroom of high school kids being held hostage by a fellow student who has just taken down 2 of their teachers. We see what makes Charlie tick. The ending was good and didn‘t go the way I thought it would. This book makes you think. It‘s a quick read. 4⭐️ Recommended!

1. Mmh I guess the Dead Poets Society even if it's not about reading in a very strict way
2. Rage by Richard Bachman (aka Stephen King)
I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it. Some will be old, some will be new - don't judge me, I have a lot of books.
Day 70th
Join the fun if you want!

So I am finally on vacation 🙌🏻
And within 12 hours I made my way to a bookstore 💁🏻♀️
I bought the first two for my nephew; the second two for my niece; and the last one was for me.
Because… this is a hardcover edition of an out-of-print King collection in pristine condition… for $4.
😮😮🤫
I seriously felt like I was stealing from the guy 🤷🏻♀️
This is my #julyTBR 🥳🥳
4 New readings and 1 reread (#Theheartinvisiblefuries ❤)
I really hope to be straight to my plan 😂
I found this book in a free bin a while back and how lucky I am that it was the complete collection! Rage will not be my favorite story by King; it has an interesting beginning, a kinda boring middle, and the end was the best part. I can see why King pulled it from print, but it‘s a shame he felt he had to. It‘s an interesting and sad character study into the mind of an unwell, angry teenager.
Next up #readingStephenKing: The Shining!!
I struggled to get through this book but was determined to finish it. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be but I'm glad to have finally read it.
Starting Rage by my favorite author, Stephen King. I have been wanting to read this one for a while but because it was pulled from publishing, it's been difficult to find.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book shows us what happens inside a classroom during a school shooting situation and how it affects those involved.
As part of #losersclub, I am hoping to read all of Stephen King‘s published works. This is number three on the very lengthy list. I had never heard of it before, but am so excited to have read it. A bit of a prophet, is he? What with all of the school shootings in the last 20 years? And yet this was published in 1977? #losersclub @DGRachel
Rage is the first book Stephen King wrote under his pseudonym Richard Bachman which he let fall out of print after the book was associated with some High school shootings.
At 130 pages is a fast read in which we spend 4 hours with Charlie, in his classroom, with a loaded gun.
I didnt feel like this is SK at his best but it's still a good 3 star read.
Well, that's what I call a 'typical King' - quite a good psychological thriller with Lord of the Flies allusions. The pace is good, flashbacks make it clear when the guy began drifting towards insanity, and other characters are moderately repulsive and insecure themselves. But if you've read a deal of King's books, you won't find any revelations or new themes - just the same old frustrated teenager failing to endure the dull reality
Reading this out of print Stephen King book.
Definitely one of the hardest books for me to read with an open mind due to the subject matter. I can understand why others do not like this story. For me though, I did like it. It is complex and layered with writing that pushed my mind to reevaluate how I see things, and I love when authors can do that. It probably helps that I'm a huge Stephen King fan too. 😀
I decided it was finally time to read The Bachman Books. Starting with this one today....
This book is deeply disturbing and I can see why King pulled it from shelves. However, it is an interesting look at what drives us to violence and the secrets we keep close to us. The writing is good, but the pacing and structure weren‘t 100% working for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #stephenkingreadingchallenge
I listened to this one as a pirated audio on Youtube and definitely felt weird about it. But not quite as weird as I did about the book itself. The tone in this one is so dark. I guess King's tone is always dark and he seems to have so little faith in humanity in general but the cruelty in Rage was so casual as to feel almost inhuman, but the point is just how human it is. The banality of evil and all that...
Months behind on the #losersclub...
I found this at a used book store and didn‘t realize it had been withdrawn by King. Really enjoyed the story and the pacing. Good quick read.
I haven't been on in weeks, sorry. Reading slump and life stuff colliding.... I must have read 20 pages max in over a month!
So those 20 pages took me to the end of Rage. I know it is controversial but I thought it was very well done and glad I finally read it #losersclub
Sorry to all I'm behind on various things with yet again. 2018 is a very tough year for me... Roll on new year lol xxxx
It‘s a rare and much-needed Saturday off for me. I got up at 5:30am to have some extra reading time before the kidlets wake up #bliss
That is one serious lawn, as only Stephen King would describe it. Excited to start this one today for #losersclub #epicbuddyread
As far as #rarebooks go Rage by Richard Bachmann definitely qualifies. Stephen King pulled it from publication after the school shootings in the 80s and 90s. Now copies, if you can find them, can go for $500 on Amazon. I found the story in one of the old copies of The Bachman Books: Four Early Novels. Even in newer copies of that Rage is absent.
#OldCoolBooks @Linsy
Man did I hate this book. King pulled it from circulation and I don't blame him. It was fairly pointless and pulpy and shocking for the sake of shocking, at least for me. Not my cup of tea at all. You still catch glimpses of King's talented ear for dialogue but you don't care to hear the conversations...
If you want GOOD pulp fiction by King, try Joyland.
Catch-up for #losersclub
This was a novella about a teenage hotsage situation turned into "psycho"analysis. It's pretty good considering King wrote it when he was really young. I was captivated by the story and how it still pertains. We are still failing our children and it is not through access to books, although I understand this one was pulled from print.

@TricksyTails
I am glad I read this. Thank you to @GarthRanzz for sending me a copy. A fascinating, albeit troubling insight into the psychology of one who has “gone berserk.” One can almost, not quite, but almost, sympathize with Charlie Decker. #losersclub
Somehow I‘d always thought I read this story but I hadn‘t , so thank you to the #losersclub. This story was painful to read as the issue of school shootings and #bullying are all too common but it‘s a solidly done story. @TricksyTails #epicbuddyread
