March #bookspin #doublespin.
Between race training and a cluster **** of a month at work, I only finished one book in February, but I‘m hoping I can catch up over Spring Break (in between Spring Training, the World Baseball Classic, and March Madness ⚾️ 🏀 📚).
“If we sound like a couple of callous assholes, it‘s because that‘s how we were raised.”
Been a bit quiet on here the last couple days. My grandmother passed away on Friday. Today is the last day of #JoyousJanuary. I am going to try to finish my goal books for that readathon by Wednesday when I leave and I thought the tagged book would be appropriate “on deck” book if I find downtime during my trip to Nebraska for her service. My grandma actually owned a bookstore and visiting it was one of my fondest childhood memories. #RIP
Watching Friends and starting a new book. Coincidence??? Or is it *possible* that Courteney Cox was in Fort Worth reselling books at HPB? 🤔
The way the family drama is handled so well. Grief and loss looked at honestly and bluntly.
Honestly, I wanted to like this book…it began with a bang and a flourish, but then it fizzled out. I couldn‘t get into it despite dropping and picking it up multiple times. I have to say, I‘m throwing in the towel on this one. 😞

Day 79.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.
This #audiobook made me laugh out loud, but I kept on putting it aside for other books. The humor was fairly crass for me, which I don‘t enjoy as much. Lots of fighting and f***ing.
A large family gets together to sit shiva for their dad. Lots of revelations. Lots of funny moments. Lots of arguments. In the end, a big-hearted book.
This is my plan for the #booked2021 winter prompts! I completely gave up on all of the reading challenges that I set out to participate in last year. I just couldn‘t stay focused when life became overwhelming. Hopefully I‘ll have better luck this year!
1. Set in Australia
2. Nonfiction science written by a woman
3. Baked goods on cover
4. #covidheroes
5. Mustache on cover
6. Author‘s first name starts with an A, B, or C
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Much to their surprise and chagrin, the grown Foxman children are asked to sit shiva when their nonpracticing father dies. Personal lives are falling apart rather spectacularly, yet despite all the drama, their flawed and nurturing sibling relationships bring them closer. Dark humor carries them through the collective shit storm. I love these authentic characters. Secured a spot in my all-time favorites. #reread
I felt like I was inside Judd Foxman‘s head sitting shiva with his dysfunctional family for his father following the collapse of his marriage. As a woman it was not a comfortable place to be, but it was interesting. I saw the movie several years ago, but film can‘t adequately capture Judd‘s retelling of walking into his bedroom to find his beautiful wife in a, ‘ahem, compromising position with his boss - LOL!

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
This book was exactly what I needed. A fun humorous book about love, grief, family, and life. I have had so much happen in my life in the past year and a half, I needed something that helped put a humorous spin on such heavy things.

Listened to this on my walk today. This was a recommendation for the makes you LoL prompt of #booked2020 and boy was it a great choice for me! I‘m not very far but I already relate to this main character.
****** slight spoiler ahead*******
We both had our spouses cheat on us who are now expecting a child with the same person they cheated with. It is so cathartic!!!
This is a Kindle deal today! Absolutely loved this one, it made me laugh out loud several times!
I loved it. The writing is just my style—sarcastic, believable, realistic. It‘s a close look at family dynamics and life in general, and I‘m here for it 💯
Here‘s an idea. Why don‘t I stop perusing Litsy and actually read my book? 🧐🤓😬📚
A laugh-out-loud book with bits of heartbreak and wisdom throughout. Definitely captures that functioning dysfunction of family dynamics that we can all relate to. nov2019
I ended up liking this more than I expected. I still don‘t like some pronunciation habits of the narrator (🙄) but after that ridiculous Schiwa-thing was finally resolved I felt milder about the plot of „your average messed up family ties“. It actually pictures real life properly, I think. And that some men in their (late) 20‘s still act like pubescents ain‘t also new. It‘s more a „Deal with it.“
A bit excessive but overall okay.
I started listening, yesterday. It‘s about a family having no strong ties to one another. Then the father dies and his last wish is, that his family sits Schiwa for him …
I liked this summary but I‘m not sure the story and I will become friends. I don‘t like the narrator very much, he here and there has an accent that disturbs me.
Content-related, I‘m where the kid spilled his full potty-chair on the eating table. A bit too weird for me.
This book was the perfect combination of hilarious and sad. 4⭐️
It has been a trying couple of weeks and this book has been a perfect distraction.
How awesome is it that I get #poutinepenpals mail with a BOOK in it on #nationalbookloversday 🎉so AWESOME! Thank you so much @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Danielle I can‘t wait to read it
Outstanding! I've only read two of Tropper's novels so far--this one and The Book of Joe--but I loved both of them. I can't wait to read the rest of his books!
1. Loved this book, so many funny moments!
2. The hospital I work in had food trucks on site for lunch yesterday 🥰
3. Puerto Rican food. All day every day.
4. Yes- 27 of them!!

#AnglophileApril I‘m not sure why this book popped into my head for #LetYouLoveMe but it‘s one of my FAVORITE books about family relationships and all the complicated ways we‘re connected. It‘s hilarious and easily one of the funniest books I‘ve ever read. I think book is wayyyyy better than movie, however movie was fun too!!
This book didn‘t really make me #laugh out loud but I did chuckle and snort. I liked the movie adaptation better.
#springintoreading
I really enjoyed this novel about a dysfunctional family who all travel home when their father dies. It‘s laugh-out-loud funny in parts, and just a really solid read.
Goodreads 16/52
It sounds like there are a lot of awkward family moments in this book.

I got this at a huge Half Priced Books sale a long time ago and I finally read it. I really liked it! It was complicated emotionally but I love the way the family connects in the end. Definite pick!
Realized I‘ve fallen way behind on reviews!

This was good, a quick read, funny, poignant, and entertaining. A very Jewish aesthetic, I felt, with the layering of existential sadness over everything. Strong themes of how families communicate, how people live up (or down) to their familial roles, and a heaping helping of what-might-have-beens. As an ex-northeasterner, I enjoyed all the comic characters that dropped in.
This book gave me all the feels. I laughed and got a little teary eyed. I loved this dysfunctional family. I haven‘t seen the movie, but maybe I‘ll check it out.
Like so many of you littens said, this was the perfect #beachread. Even though I finished it on the flight home, it had the perfect blend of seriousness, humour, awkward sex and dysfunctional family drama to make this just the kind of book I needed to end my trip to Crete 👌
