Entertaining, thought-provoking and very hilarious! I enjoyed this one!

“The real problem here is that we‘re all dying. All of us. Every day the cells weaken and the fibres stretch and the heart gets closer to its last beat. The real cost of living is dying, and we‘re spending days like millionaires: a week here, a month there, casually spunked until all you have left are the two pennies on your eyes.“

For the most part I enjoyed this and found Moran to be smart and very funny. But she said more things than I expected that struck me as either tone deaf or ridiculous, so I looked up the publication date which was 2011. Ten years is an odd amount of time to reflect back. It‘s definitely long enough to notice sweeping change, but not long enough to look back with any perspective of “history“. I wonder when that shift happens…

This was just So-So, it's funny at times and has some interesting ideas that I enjoyed reading, but quite often I got bored of her rant and just wanted to skip to the next idea. Also, I'm too much of a literary snob to feel comfortable with so much writing in capital letters. It's still a light way of reading about feminist issues, which is no small feat.

The way women feel that they are not so much well-meaning human beings doing the best that they can but, instead, and endless list of problems (fat, hairy, unfashionable, spotty, smelly, tired, unsexy, & with a dodgy pelvic floor, to boot) to be solved. And that, with the application of a great deal of time & money...we might, one day, 20 yrs into the future, finally be able to put our feet up & say, "For nine minutes today, I almost *nailed* it!"

Another one to check of my #BookSpinBonanza list. 😠@TheAromaofBooks

Loved this one! 💚 Caitlin Moran writes in an honest, unfiltered way about her thoughts on what it means to be a woman and so much of what she says is exactly how I feel. She's witty, a bit crass, and very insightful.

I now must find other things she's written.

TheAromaofBooks Great Bonanza progress!! I'm finally on book three of my list haha 5y

If there is to be a fifth wave of feminism, I would hope that the main thing that distinguishes it from all that came before is that women counter the awkwardness, disconnect, and bullshit of being a modern woman not by shouting at it, internalizing it, or squabbling about it - but by simply pointing at it and going "HA!" instead

Really really enjoyed this book, down to earth modern thinking feminism wrapped up in tales of a life being well lived with little pearls of wisdom throughout. A lot of what Caitlin Moran has to say resonates strongly with me and I think she has an important message that is well worth taking some time to digest. Wish I‘d read it sooner.

Caitlin (pronounced CAT-lin) Moran is a self-proclaimed feminist from England. I heard about her book a few years ago on a podcast. I kept bumping it down my reading list until I joined the #Booked2018 challenge via the Litsy app.  How To Be A Woman met the “Feminist Classic†category.

Hilarious, as advertised. I was crying laughing at some points. It also has a crystal clear message. The feminism is strong in this one. Be prepared for rampant cussing, honesty, and a whole section devoted to pubic hair. If you get squeamish about body functions, this is not the book for you. I particularly enjoyed her take on childbirth.

I didn‘t agree with everything Moran said, but I appreciated it all. I wish teenage me had been more encouraged to read books like this, explore my own ideas of womanhood and feminism. One of my resolutions is to read books that force me to do just that. Up next: Bad Feminist by Roxanne Gay (also I am IN LOVE with Harper‘s Olive Editions!!)
