Crinoline_Laphroaig This is where I lose any sympathy I had for Jan. It doesn't matter Max is a murderer, what's important is HE DIDN'T LOVE REBECCA! She becomes a bit like Rebecca in that she doesn't care about anything except what she wants. I could see her going over the edge in later years and murderibg Max because she thinks he doesn't love her enough. 4d

Ruthiella All I can say is keep reading folks! I have my own ideas about Rebecca‘s motivations. I also noted Jan‘s primary focus now of being truly loved and I think I would have had the same blind obsession at 21 or 22. (edited) 4d

But I agree. If she wasn't so cocky with her evilness. I am sure Max would have had no choice but to get divorced from her eventually. But, she was slipping up so much, it was going to all come out what type of person she was eventually. 4d

CoffeeNBooks So if I'm not mistaken, Rosamond thinks she's in love with Lydgate because she thinks Lydgate is in love with her. She also thinks he's a good catch because he's not from Middlemarch. But Lydgate has no intention of marrying any time soon. 1y
