A quick listen, though I was supposed to read this slowly, as the title suggests. I liked it, though I‘m not sure how much will stick, so it would be better to have this in print for a bigger impact. Several points really resonated and would be excellent for people to hear, especially the sections about finding the common ground and realizing that often religions have more in common than what separates them. Delight in the simple things in life.

Meh. Read a few pages each day. For sure, there were some pieces of advice that resonated with me and made me think about how I approach some situations or people.

But there were also many quotes that sounded trite or off, to the point I wondered what was the original problem this monk was replying to. Don‘t feel much calmer after reading, but given the times, maybe remaining just okay is saying a lot.

Read for #NaturalItsy #LitSolace this was a lovely little book. While not every point made was applicable to me, there were lots of ideas, thoughts & quotes that resonated & that I highlighted. A good calming read overall for a January that‘s gone crazy. 🍵

There are a few gem reflections in this, a book that purposely asks the reader to take their time reading. It‘s reflective and calming. Admittedly, there were a few times I did not quite agree with the author‘s musings, but that may be the point—it opens for good discussion. Overall, a lovely book. This little book is packed with so much wisdom! I started listening on audio, and quickly realized I needed a print copy, because I wanted to highlight passages, write in the margins, flip back and forth through the pages, and come back to again and again. A gem.

The top passage speaks to politicians‘ behavior, but the bottom passage is a light in the dark: “Historically, the people who bring about the change in society tend to be not the middle-aged but the passionate youth. While I'm enjoying the daily tree for the #NaturaLitsy buddy read, I'm bailing on our #MidwinterSolace read after just 13 minutes listening. The author shared two classic pieces of bad advice as "good advice" including changing how you feel about your bad situation and looking at someone else's bad situation so you know yours isn't so bad. This is harmful in many contexts and encourage people to dismiss their lived experiences. @AllDebooks

I promise, #MidwinterSolace folks, I did try with this but had to give up when I found myself enjoying the illustrations more than the words. This is really not my jam, but I hope everyone else enjoyed it!

Finished the January buddy read of the #MidwinterSolace and I did read at a much slower pace. Just a chapter a day so I could reflect a bit on what I was reading. Quite a few things struck me and resonated. I even took a picture of one of the quotes to send to my parents as it reminded me of them - the one about putting your wealth in other people. I‘ll definitely try to keep the things I learned in mind

I had to read this quickly for book club but it would have been better as a dip in and out of book. I was a bit put out to find when I googled the author after I'd finished reading that the author had actually been in Jakarta while I was reading it to do some talks and readings which finished the day before.

I‘m spending a few months at my sister‘s who has probably never read a book in her life, but recently bought this one. I found it on my nightstand as I moved into my designated room, so I‘ll guess I‘ll be reading a few pages each day before going to sleep lol

This really did strike a chord. Over the years I have realised that I need stories, words, pages as much as the air I breathe. They nurture my soul, feed my curiosity and calm my mind. Would be lost without them.

Definitely the best book to observe and redefine fast-based world around, defining essential values and power drivers.

I‘ve been dipping in and out of this book (a series of essays, quotes, interspersed with lovely illustrations) the whole week, sharing some quotes that I loved..it‘s good if you take your time with the little nuggets of suggestions instead of reading it at one go. I didn‘t resonate with everything but basically it aims to make us reflect on our busy life, inspire us to be kinder and nicer to ourselves and interacting with others.

Nice book, good writing and easy to read. However doesn't bring anything new. More of the same.
