Heart's Invisible Furies
Heart's Invisible Furies | John Boyne
From the beloved New York Times bestselling author of The Boy In the Striped Pajamas, a sweeping, heartfelt saga about the course of one man's life, beginning and ending in post-war Ireland Cyril Avery is not a real Avery -- or at least, that's what his adoptive parents tell him. And he never will be. But if he isn't a real Avery, then who is he? Born out of wedlock to a teenage girl cast out from her rural Irish community and adopted by a well-to-do if eccentric Dublin couple via the intervention of a hunchbacked Redemptorist nun, Cyril is adrift in the world, anchored only tenuously by his heartfelt friendship with the infinitely more glamourous and dangerous Julian Woodbead. At the mercy of fortune and coincidence, he will spend a lifetime coming to know himself and where he came from - and over his many years, will struggle to discover an identity, a home, a country, and much more. In this, Boyne's most transcendent work to date, we are shown the story of Ireland from the 1940s to today through the eyes of one ordinary man. The Heart's Invisible Furies is a novel to make you laugh and cry while reminding us all of the redemptive power of the human spirit.

What an amazing journey. Although I didn‘t want to stop reading, I couldn‘t wait to see how it all turned out. This book will be my favorite read of 2020. I don‘t think a book will evoke as many emotions for me as this book did. If you have not read this, get it now and read it today!

I‘ll have a great year of reading if all my 2020 3x3 grid have this many 5*=A+ ratings. Only two books garnered less than an A rating. Five were from my physical TBR and all 9 fit a reading challenge! Tagged what may be my favorite read this year.

5* = Loved It, want non-reader IRL friends to read. I do/will own a physical copy. A+

Tear my heart out, why dontcha? This book was filled with easy coincidences - way too many of them - but I kept reading because Boyne can write with gut wrenching compassion. The sad parts are so very sad, but so beautifully written. And the end was lovely. For me, for this book, the good far outweighs the not-so-good.

The clock did not even strike midnight twice in 2020 before I finished what might stand for the entire year as my favorite book. I loved every minute of this story. From 1945 to 2015, this book made me cry, laugh out loud, get angry, and pause to ponder - which really is what life is all about. Cyril shows us the meaning of family. #ReadingEurope2020 #ireland

Overall I found this a truly great book. There was a section near the middle that didn't keep me creating as much but I found I kept thinking about the characters when I wasn't reading it... always a good sign. 😊😊
Still shocked by the anti gay feelings in tge seventies and eighties. 😐😐😐

I loved this book so much! It‘s an epic story of family and belonging, but I what I adore most is the author‘s masterful use of characterization and dialogue. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hearts invisible furies is probably my second favorite book this year next to the great alone by Kristin Hannah. This book is slow, beautiful, heart wrenching, emotional roller coaster that will have you shocked, angry and crying at times. I loved this book and it will always hold a place on my shelf and Cyril my heart. I was happy towards the end with a little sadness. His story was amazing and beautiful.

This was a good book, and definitely worth reading. But I don‘t think that I‘m quite as crazy about it as everyone else seems to be. It‘s overly long and would‘ve benefited from some paring down. I listened to the audiobook and it was really well done. I was invested in the family story and definitely wanted to know how things would end up for Cyril.

There isn‘t anything new to say about this one, as so many Littens have already read it. However, this was so up my alley and I just loved it. There were a few too many coincidences and ways the characters crossed paths, but I still enjoyed being in this world for awhile and living with these particular characters. It made me smile, cry, and feel lots of emotions, and I was sad to move on to a different book after. It rarely gets better than that.

Many people love this novel based on all the five star reviews, and while it is a good audiobook, I‘m not sure it lives up to all the hype. Boyne is one of the best at writing dialogue, and much of the story is told through dialogue. The narrator was the perfect choice for this audiobook. While I enjoyed Boyne‘s latest work, A Ladder to the Sky, more than this one, The Heart‘s Invisible Furies was still good. Overall rating: 4.36 stars.

suvata I loved this book and rounded it up to 5-stars. LOL 9mo
