Welcome to Rockton: a secret town cut off from the rest of the world. If you need a place to hide, this is the perfect place to start again. There's just one catch. You can't leave. Even if there's a killer on the loose. Detective Casey Duncan has a dark past, and it's about to catch up with her. When her best friend Diana is attacked by an abusive ex, the two women realise they have to disappear, fast. Diana's heard of a hidden town that's so remote it's almost impossible to reach. A town that desperately needs a new detective. Casey has barely arrived in Rockton when a body is discovered. A man's been murdered and there's no time to waste. Casey's job won't be easy: everyone in town has a secret. Meanwhile her boss, Sheriff Eric Dalton, is a brooding, troubled man who's hard to read and even harder to please. With no chance of help from the outside world, Casey must rely on her wits and experience to solve the case. But she's running out of time. Rockton's killer is on the hunt, and this deep in the wilderness, no one is safe. Gripping, fast-paced and atmospheric, City of the Lost is the brilliant new thriller from international bestselling author Kelley Armstrong.

Another detective series I started but this one I won't continue. An interesting concept (it follows homicide detective Casey Duncan in the hidden Rockton, a small, off-the-grid town in the wilderness of the Canadian Yukon where people go when they wish to disappear) but I didn't care much for the characters (as compared to those in For Reasons Unknown that I reviewed yesterday).

And of course there are only so many thriller series I can handle!

TrishB I started one last month that I‘m not sure about. May try second one just to check! 3w
BarbaraBB @TrishB With the speed you‘re reading I would too 😉 I however must choose my battles 😀 3w

#WhereAreYouMonday

Somewhere in wilderness of the Canadian Yukon is Rockton, a small, off-the-grid town where people go when they want to disappear.

At least that‘s the setting of this book which I am reading as an audiobook.

Nebklvr I like this series but as with Three pines….I would not be comfortable with the homicide rate 1mo

First in a new-to-me series! This was definitely a pick, somewhere between 3 and 4 stars but I rounded up.

If there was a Rockton, I can't tell you how tempted I'd be to run there. Not because life is horrible but because this sounds like nirvana (also hard as heck!).

I enjoyed Casey's story and am looking forward to more in this series.

While at the lake I've gone to the local library, the girl there told me she read the 7 books in this series in a week! A new series?! Yes!
Casey takes a friend who needs to disappear to a place totally off the grid, in Yukon territory. Rockton doesn't exist , you must be approved to get there. Casey is a detective, the sheriff of Rockton has never lived anywhere but there. 3 murders happen in a town of 200⬇️

Crazeedi The surrounding forests and wilderness can get one lost quickly. Can Casey help Dalton before more are murdered? Great first book in the series! 6mo

#SpringSkies

This #Lost title is the first book in the Rockton series that spun off into the newer Haven‘s Rock series. It‘s set in the Yukon wilds where people go to a hidden town to get lost from danger. It‘s become one of my favorite mystery/thriller series. 💙🤍🩶 #SeriesLove

Eggs This sounds so gooood 7mo

DebinHawaii @BarbaraBB It‘s an addictive series for sure! The book @Hooked_on_books read is the second book in the second spinoff series, so definitely start with this book & Rockton series before going to the Haven‘s Rock series. 7mo

Thanks @Eggs for the #TLT tag! 🤗

This is hard to narrow down to only 3!

1️⃣ Casey Duncan from the tagged book from the Rockton series (& now New Haven series). She‘s a bad ass in the Yukon wilderness! 🌲🐻❄️

2️⃣ Charley Davidson from her series by Darynda Jones. She‘s a PI & the grim reaper! 💀

3️⃣ Trixie Belden & Nancy Drew from childhood (yes, that!s 2, so sue me!) 😉👩🏻‍🤝‍👩🏼

Anyone else want to play along?! 🔎🩶

I read the second one in this series a bit ago and the first finally became available. I was unsurprised that I enjoyed it especially getting to know the background to the characters and watch their relationships develop. I think the second was better in terms of plot and intrigue. But this was still a great way to stay entertained over a long weekend of yard work and beach time ☀️☀️

Trying to get back into a couple of monthly challenges with #JulyJourneys

For #CanadaDay 🇨🇦🍁 I am going for a favorite series set in the wilds of the Yukon. I am small kine obsessed with the mysterious hidden Canadian town of Rockton & its often dubious citizens & I have read all 6 books in the series so far. Some are stronger than others, but they always leave me craving the next one.

Yukon for #ReadCanada

Not my usual genre, but that's why I do challenges. A solid read, with compelling characters. Kelley Armstrong has been on my radar of authors to check out for quite a while, so I was glad of the excuse to finally read one of hers.

Andrea4 Omg I want to read this series! But actually listen to it and am annoyed I can't get it in audio! Lol a coworker mentioned her because she LOVES her and kyle and the Yukon thing lol 3y
llwheeler @Andrea4 I bet it would be really long in audio, it's longer than I expected. 3y

Andrea4 @llwheeler plus, for me, if it's a big ass book, I'm going to want audio so I can do other things. *Men* I know you don't like doing other things while listening. *De* I don't like being trapped by a physical book's limitations bahaha. Also hope you like my use of random grk particles. 3y
llwheeler @Andrea4 haha awesome use of grk particles, I love it. I know what you mean though, and I do like doing things while I listen... Just very specific things lol, basically just crafting and phone games... So it does take me longer to get through a book. 3y

This is a very promising start to a thriller series. Loved the setting and characters and the whole premise is just thoroughly original. I do think that the mystery was unnecessarily convoluted but I still really enjoyed this and am reading the next one immediately! Published in 2017, there are four additional books currently available.

Hooked_on_books I love this series! After the first one, I was concerned with how she would manage to keep the story fresh, but she‘s done a beautiful job with it. 4y

I have about 5 prompts to catch up on this weekend so I will do them in no particular order.
When I think of a #TimeBombTown I think of the hidden Rockton, tucked away in the Canadian Yukon & filled with people hiding from something. It always seems like a ticking time bomb is waiting to go off there. (And yes, I use this series a lot! 😉) Waiting for book #5.

I'm not sure I'd want to say #LetsGetLost for too long in Rockton, (a secret off-the-grid town in the Yukon Territory full of people on the run, looking for a quiet place to disappear to), but it certainly intrigues me. The Rockton series is one that grabbed me from the first (tagged) book, and I am now waiting for book five.

Hooked_on_books I love this series 5y

Interesting story. Some really great plot twists and a setting in the forests just below the Arctic Circle that was fascinating. I adored Casey, I liked the way she thought and I loved how smart she was. Great protagonist. About 2/3 of the way through it got a little draggy and went from practically no romance to a little bit too much, but I still took quite a shine to this book. Looking forward with great anticipation to the next. #murdermystery

Torn on this one. I really like the idea of the town off the grid, where you can disappear when you need to. I liked the dynamics among the characters. My problem was that I had just recently reread/finished Kelley Armstrong's Nadia Stafford trilogy, and there were too many similarities in the main characters. Not quite cut-and-paste, but it bugged me. Hopefully the rest of the series will be less deja-vu.

This one is a re-read for me as I have the second one on #MountTBR. I enjoy the premise that there is a secret town in the wilderness - a whole another 'world' secret from everyday life - though there are no supernatural elements to these books. But the safe haven of Rockton may not be so safe after all.

I really enjoyed this thriller. Usually I can tell who did it but this one had me guessing until the end. I was surprised at who was the culprit but once I thought back to the evidence it made sense.

I really wish that Casey wasn't so level headed and calm though. Some people could have used a tongue lashing from her.
