#Top20Series #20Series20Days Day 1 I ignored this series for a long time even though I am a huge King fan (judged the book by its cover). A foreword from King in another book stated The Dark Tower Series was one of the best things he has ever written. Needless to say it was beyond anything I could have expected, it is pure genius. The mix of Sci-Fi, magic, time travel and other genres was amazing, I didn‘t want it to end.

vivastory I couldn't agree more. One of my favorite reading experiences of all time. 4y
Reggie I like King a lot but I couldn‘t make it past the first book in the series. Should I just push through? 4y

#20series20days
The ultimate journey. Loved the series and the characters and the imagination. The ending not so much, I have reconciled myself with it over the years 😁😁.

Bookwormjillk That ending- I threw the book across the room 4y
Andrew65 Yes the series was much better than the ending. I loved reading these. 4y
tpixie @TrishB reconciled. Good word. I‘m still upset sometimes. It‘s been decades. I started it way back when he 1st wrote it and re- read the books when he started writing them again. I just try to forget the ending, and try to remember I loved the journey. I remember hearing SKing say writing the ending of the book is always the hardest. I suspect he meant this series. But how could he end it so badly??!! @Andrew65 @Bookwormjillk 4y
See All 19 Comments
TrishB @Bookwormjillk @Andrew65 @tpixie have never reread the ending again! Though I‘ve reread the rest of the series. Shows how powerful it was that it still raises our hackles after all this time! And I mean the feeling, not the ending! 4y
KathyWheeler I‘ve actually come to appreciate the ending after all these years. I was upset when I first read it, but now I don‘t hate it so much. 4y
TrishB @KathyWheeler I think the only way I‘ll know whether I still hate it as much is if I read it again and I can‘t bring myself to read it again 🤷‍♀️ I read the rest of them in a reread last year and couldn‘t do the last one! 4y
amywithbooks I was so mad the first time I read the ending I threw my book across the room 😂 but after a few re-reads since then it makes more sense to me. Still my favorite series ever, I am due for a re-read next year! 4y
TrishB @avgeyer I‘ve never reread the ending, perhaps I need to! 4y
MsMelissa Okay, you‘ve convinced me to give this one a try 😊 4y
TrishB @Book_Fiend_Melissa oohhh, the first one is very introductory, it gets going after that! 4y
MsMelissa Good to know! I‘ll keep in mind when I read book one. 4y
Ruthiella I haven‘t read that much King but in my opinion he often has trouble with the endings to his books. I think readers forgive this because we enjoyed the ride up to that point! 4y
TrishB @Ruthiella I hear this a lot, but I‘ve read every book and this is the only one where I have a problem with the ending, I guess that‘s why it‘s had such an impact. 4y
tpixie @TrishB yes! Lol I even got a little riled up again today! 😂😛🤪. But to have a book series last in your heart so long.... that‘s something!!! 4y
tpixie @avgeyer I guess I need the ending analyses for me to alleviate it better. But I love all the characters!! I‘ve always told my kids to Stand Tall. Lol and Blaine the Train ruined Thomas the Tank for me! Lol 😂 @TrishB @Andrew65 @Bookwormjillk @KathyWheeler @Ruthiella King certainly had trouble with this ending!! (edited) 4y
TrishB @tpixie me too! Thinking about it all day. Blaine 😱 🚂 4y

King's sui generis epic is among his most ambitious, technically sophisticated & emotionally rewarding works. The Dark Tower is the core mythology of King's work. He can be understood, & enjoyed, without ever dipping into a single volume of his magnum opus. However, I believe all Constant Readers eventually find themselves wandering down the unforgettable path he laid out over the course of twenty years. During the course of these books👇

vivastory I laughed, I rejoiced, I missed meals, I sacrificed sleep, I cried... I will miss my Ka-tet 4y
Bookwormjillk I loved this series up until the end 4y

ValerieAndBooks Glad you enjoyed!! I started reading this series years ago (with the illustrations) in college but life got in the way. I‘ve more recently found the rest (also illustrated) and one of these days will start again from the beginning 😊 4y
vivastory @ValerieAndBooks I hope you love them! 4y
JanuarieTimewalker13 I just got so excited looking at all these books!! I‘ve never read this series, but O would like to. My next SK is Doctor Sleep, and then I want to tackle The Stand. 4y
vivastory @JanuarieTimewalker13 I read Dr Sleep a few weeks ago. Have you seen the movie? I was thinking of reading The Stand soon, but might wait a bit for that one. I'm thinking of tackling some of his smaller books next. 4y

vivastory @sprainedbrain Thanks! I had a pretty massive book hangover after I finished it 4y
sprainedbrain @vivastory I did, too... and all of your posts brought back so many feelings. 😢 4y
vivastory @sprainedbrain I was explaining to someone last night how emotionally draining it was & I told them it'd be like if the red wedding & Jon snow's death had both occurred in the same book 4y
sprainedbrain @vivastory good analogy. The last book of the Dark Tower series is just heartbreaking. 😭 4y
CheckUrShelfB4UWreckUrShelf Dark Tower is my favorite series. The ending blew my mind. And yes, The Stand is pretty lengthy. But it‘s worth it. The story is amazing. 4y
JanuarieTimewalker13 No, I just ordered Doctor Sleep so that I can read it before seeing the film 4y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Duma Key or Bag of Bones are smaller and they are really good!! I think they‘re still in the 500 page range but nothing like The Stand! 4y
vivastory @JennyHart I was floored by the ending, it was perfect IMO. I'm definitely going to read The Stand the next time I'm in the mood for one of his epics. 4y
vivastory @JanuarieTimewalker13 I think I might read his short stories or a collection of his novellas next. I recently moved Duma Key up my list. That seems to be an overlooked book. 4y

As a kid, I devoured lots of series (BSC, Sweet Valley, Fear Street) but now I can‘t seem to get through them. I‘ll read the first 1 or 2 and then move onto something else for a while and by the time I go back to them, I‘ve forgotten what‘s happening. This is my 4th attempt at The Dark Tower. I like the books but I hate the feeling that I‘m missing details that may be important later so this time I‘m taking notes!

After playing around with this for ages and reading a ton of variations, I‘ve landed here for my #expandedDT reading plan for 2019. I have read the main DT books in the series but have decided delve deeper into the #multiverse. The order is, for the most part, chronological and I‘ve taken a few liberties adding/removing from other suggested lists based on interest and the books I own. 🤞 let‘s see how it goes!

LETTER R: ROLLAND. He is one badass character. Seriously one of my favorite characters Stephen King created. I was so excited for the movie, but then when I saw the preview for it I was very disappointed. I still haven't watched it.
#KingAToZ @GarthRanzz

GarthRanzz You and I both! I was really excited to see it, especially since I have actually read the first book. But, as I‘ve said, it looks like they “dumbed it down” for general audiences by going PG-13. And we lost the companion TV show that was to go along with it. Really disappointing. 6y
MinDea @GarthRanzz Definitely! I also, sadly did not like the casting. They removed and changed too much of it and it no longer was even remotely close to the book and series that I absolutely love. I don't get why they did that. This series has some following, why do that to the fans?!?! 6y
MinDea Don't get me wrong. I am a huge Idris Alba fan, but he is NOT Roland. 6y
See All 8 Comments
GarthRanzz I love Elba too. Luther is one of my favourite Brit procedurals. And I was actually looking forward to McConaughey as Flagg. Especially since he signed on to do The Stand at the same time. Would have loved that continuity. But now I hope they just reboot The Dark Tower in a few years and do it right. (edited) 6y
GrilledCheeseSamurai Agreed. The movie was a total bummer. I love the books so much and was so let down with the film. 😭 6y
TrishB I didn‘t bother with the film. Too many fans whose opinion I trusted hated it so I didn‘t see any point! 6y
RohitSawant I watched the film. I shouldn't have watched the film. The only good thing to come of it is all the fan art of Idris Elba as Roland. 6y
tonyahoswalt I watched the movie, before reading the books. At the time I wanted to read them. The movie was not good and made me a little sad about reading them, but I'm back to wanting to now. 6y

TricksyTails @MinDea @Andrew65 @GarthRanzz GO FOR IT! 👏😁 No such thing as stepping on toes. Spread the King love! Heck, I‘ll probably be six-feet under by the time the last Dark Tower book comes around in the schedule. 6y
LazyDays The best book in the series for me I think is - The Drawing of Three. I remember I couldn't put the book down! I got stuck in book 4 😲 I had to switch to audiobook Because I just couldn't force myself to read Rolands back story anymore. I absolutely love this series!💙🙌 6y

As a huge fan of the books, it was almost painful sitting at the drive-in watching them butcher it. Mathew McConaughey as Walter was a joke, I have no idea where the bat cave & body snatcher minions came from & where were the rest of the Ka-Tet? Maddening.

tricours Should I read the series before watching it? I've only listened to book one. 7y
Karkar @tricours The movie is very different from the first book. You should be good to watch the movie without reading the rest of the books. I totally think you should read the rest of the series - they are amazing! 😍📚📚 7y
TrishB I'm not going to see the film based on your review and a couple of others I trust! Prefer to have the books in my head! I am going to see IT though today. 7y
Cinfhen Sorry they killed that movie for you! The reviews were really harsh!!!! 7y

#SeptemBowie @Marchpane @Cinfhen IdrisElba #Heroes in The Dark Tower. I did not read , but Idris Elbas performance was truely heroic. He did not forget the face of his father. And was a hero with gun & heart ❤️

Cinfhen 🙌🏻💕😃 7y

Cathythoughts @tpixie this is Cork, in Ireland 🇮🇪 7y
tpixie Lovely!! I have romanticized that place in my head! Thanks for the beautiful photo!! 7y
Cathythoughts @tpixie where are you living ? 7y
tpixie Hutchinson, KS. Town of about 50,000 in middle of USA 🇺🇸 I grew up just outside of Kansas City. Not as magical as Cork, but at our new house, we do have deer 🦌 in the back yard and a rare fox 🦊 siting! So my back porch is a bit of lovely 😊 7y
Cathythoughts @tpixie it all sounds very magical to me. Especially that back porch 💫💫💫 7y

Ok Littens myself & the husband are going in there now. Chat later 🎉at the cinema just today

tpixie How was the movie? 7y
Cathythoughts @tpixie I hadn't read the books. But the movie was great. The kid was brilliant & Mathew Mc Conaughey excellent, Idris Elba had me in tears. We loved it ?when the director asked SK what he thought of it, SK replied " you have not forgotten the face of your father " (edited) 7y
tpixie Oh good!! 7y

tpixie @Cathythoughts and the SK response just gave me chills!!! I read the first books as they came out and then I had to reread them once SK started writing the series again! But it has been years since I read the last one. The series on my TBR reread list. I would love to have the time to re-read the series and all of Stephen Kings books that have little hints and references to it. I think that could be a college course! 7y
Cathythoughts @tpixie well put. I'd say a college course would be necessary at this point 👍 7y

I've just got home from watching The Dark Tower at the drive-in, I must say I'm very disappointed. It's like they've written a completely different story, slapped in a few elements from the book & called it The Dark Tower! I mean, come on. Matthew McConaughey as Walter? There was nothing about the beams, nothing about the Ka-tet and the Man In Blacks hideout looked like a cross between Batmans cave & Blade Runner. Not impressed😡

Cinfhen Apparently you are not alone...poor ratings on my side of the pond swayed us from seeing this movie last week 😕 7y
Libby1 I'm planning to see it Friday after it comes out in the UK. I'm reading book 3 right now. I know the film will be NOTHING like the books but I'll go along for the ride! 7y
Libby1 @Lizpixie ! I think I still owe your daughter a post card from Northern Ireland! Sorry about that. Is she still collecting them? 7y
Lizpixie @Libby1 yep, she's still collecting them. She'd love one from N.Ireland💚 7y
CouronneDhiver Oh interesting - I enjoyed the movie but I hadn't read the books yet. 7y

One of my life's goal was completed about a year ago when I finished this series. This is by far the best set of books I've ever read. Cannot wait to see the Dark Tower movie #darktower #stephenking #accomplished
