#2022Book80
I loved this book up until the very end. The characters and fantastical elements were great, but the ending seemed too easy and a little unearned.

December‘s #bookspin . I chose more middle grade and YA books because it‘s another busy month ahead and I just realized that I don‘t have any holiday titles on my physical tbr pile. I‘m still currently working on November‘s #doublebookspin but I should have that completed soon.
An unusual, fairytale-ish story with a mysteriously darkish lining to it, that ultimately lost me somewhere along the way. I think it was when the magical horse came about.

When Roza goes missing, Finn is the only witness—but he cannot remember the man‘s face. The story that unfolds around these characters is full of magical realism, unexpected friendships, and the quirky town of Bone Gap. Definitely a solid read. #bbrc #teenangst #readerschoice

#NutsInMay Book 18 ✔️
Bone Gap is about a very interesting town full of amazingly well developed character. This book is a powerful book that discusses themes such as: woman empowerment, discovering your identity in a small town, finding love in unexpected places, and not letting anything define who you are.

The people of this small Illinois town experience a not so ordinary situation when their new foreign sweetheart, Roza, disappears suddenly, with only the bad explanation of, Finn, a strange teenage boy to help. Finn and his older brother Sean must search to no ends to find out who took their friend, Roza, while discovering things about themselves along the way. This book will have you attached to the unique characters from the very start.
Just finished this audio... what an interesting and magical story! I had no idea what this was about and I‘m kind of glad... Really very good writing. Also - its a Greek myth retelling which is fantastic! #readmyowndamnbooks
“He was tired of everyone believing they knew everything there was to know about him, as if a person never grew, a person never changed, a person was born a weird and dreamy little kid with too-red lips and stayed that way forever just to keep things simple for everyone else.”
This book was a fun and quick read. I'm a big fan of magical realism and the author did a wonderful job at blending two worlds together. I especially loved the villain. He stuck with me, even when I wasn't reading anymore.
I would love to see a sequel to this book. The author left room for the story and characters to grow, even across continents. I'm not often left elated at the end of a book but this one does it!
My reading buddy is all snuggled in and ready to spend some time reading Bone Gap.
I have a different type of "bookie". @KaraWines places bets on what I'll like and then delivers. I'm never disappointed with what I get!
I enjoy magical realism, and this certainly fits into the genre. I really enjoyed her writing style and her characters, but there were some parts of the plot that didn't completely come together for me. I would still recommend it!
School is out for the summer! Which means I can now get started on my stack of books! I am currently reading "Bone Gap," have two books to pick up at the library, "The Sound of Gravel" on the way from Amazon, and these books to read for my classroom!
My crazy & beautiful life has been hard to balance lately, but coming home to a #litsylove care package from @AmyG just made me feel so wonderful!
I can‘t wait to read this. It looks so good! And based on the blurb, sounds like it fits the #beautifulcrazy prompt to a T! Thank you so much for thinking of me, Amy. 💕💌 I really love our snail mail chats!

"Even Get Real had said nothing about this, about sitting on your bed in your room, stomach and head buzzing, nerves thrumming, heart beating in your earlobes and your toes, hoping so hard that there was one boy out there who wanted you as much as you wanted him, because you wouldn't know what you would do with yourself if this were not true"
-Laura Ruby, Bone Gap
Oh, that was lovely. A lush retelling of a Greek myth that enthralls you from the first page. Finn was an incredibly endearing boy, his relationship with Sean, Roza, & Petey aching & sweet. Finn & Petey, in particular, were so adorable I could melt. I really enjoyed getting to know all these characters, & I especially loved the ending. While it had a slow start, this book is story-telling at its finest. Perfect for fairytale fans. ★★★★☆.

Just got my uk editions of these two amazing books and they‘re now the prettiest books I own, plus the insides are pretty great too 💛❤️💚💜💙😍 #ya #yalit #yabooks #prettycovers
I‘m not really a fantasy or magical realism person, so I feel like I‘m not being fair to this book. A friend let me borrow her book, and I was struggling to get into it so I decided to try audio. I enjoyed the last third much more than the rest, but it was slow moving and a lot of pointless scenes and character switches. I think the book would have been more successful with just Roza and Finn‘s POVs. I liked the unveiling of Finn‘s “strangeness”.
Because we don‘t have your typical gaps around here. Not gaps made of rocks or mountains. We have gaps in the world. In the space of things. So many places to lose yourself, if you believe that they‘re there. You can slip into the gap and never find your way out. Or maybe you don‘t want to find your way out.
@AmyG Thank you so much! Ken Follet! We were both on the same page there! Love Wally Lamb and have wanted to read Bone Gap for a long time. Thank you also for the note book and post-its. I have been known to kind of hoard office supplies 😄. Can‘t wait to try the tea! Love the bottle, and had to put Sadie in the picture with it😄. Thank you again for everything! #bottleandbookswap @JoScho
Thank you @Pogue !! I'm excited to receive my #LMPBC book and journal back from the #yreaders group and read your comments! But thank you so much for all the fun extras!! (And no worries re the delay). I'm soooo excited about the books, and I love the rat!!! Also the pic you took is gorgeous ☺️☺️ (and yes, I'd already eaten a piece of chocolate by the time I took the pic 😁).
💖🤗😍💖🤗😍
@Sharpeipup guess what came today! I am sad that this is the last book and the adventure is almost over. I am excited to see my book when it comes back! Thank you for the goodies! I will try the chocolate with honey and the easel is going to work with me!
@downtherabbithole did you get the book?
@Avanders @
current read 📚
Bizarre and intriguing! The reviews kept throwing around the term "magical realism," which made me leery. I'm glad I read it anyway.
Litsy to the Rescue!
Just when I didn‘t have a book to read, my #yreaders package arrives! #lmbpc
@Avanders @downtherabbithole @Pogue
Hi!! @Sharpeipup I will be shipping the book for #LMBC either tomorrow or Tuesday! I‘m just finishing the finalized notes I made. I‘m sorry about the delay!! I hope you have a Happy New Year!!! #yreaders
Thank you so very much, @TheLibrarian 💕
Getting this made my whole day! So cute. :D
I can't wait to read these.
#BookMail #BookHaul
Book Outlet book haul! 😍😍😍 I don't know if I've ever been so excited for a group of books that I've purchased. 🤓📚
@TheLibrarian has a couple of giveaways running! Check out her page to enter (and follow her!)
Here‘s the thing, I set this down at the beginning of fall quarter and picked it up at the end of the quarter, and was no longer interested in it.
Which is a shame because I was DYING to read this long before it was available as an ARC and it was good, but not the kind of good that you can “set down and come back to later” good.
The storyline gets confusing to follow 1/2 way through, POV‘s jump around, relationships get jumbled. It‘s so-so.
I️ have been doing SO good not buying a lot of books but Book Outlet got me bad!!!! I️ caved!!! A lot of these were on my wishlist so I️ am crossing my fingers one of my Swap matches didn‘t already get these 🙈 I️ have no self control! On the plus side the white out books were a bunch of baby books I️ got for my friends baby who just turned one! 📚📚❤️
Funny how you notice beautiful things just when you‘re about to leave them...✨
Love this typography from @EpicReads I believe?
Came across this quote that was a thought from Roza
looking at the Chicago lights on her way out of town.
#TBRtemptation post 4! I'll let the staff of Book Culture give a great description of the book as seen above in the blurb underneath the book with the beautiful cover. 😊 #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

I loved this book. I can't explain what it's about, but it was good.
I was totally onboard until the end. I'm concerned about the message that the resolution might send -- about self-harm & it being a way to take back control of your own body & your life (especially for survivors of abuse). I know that's not what the author was going for but I think it's a possible interpretation. But I loved the story, the complex characters, the poem (!) that Finn writes for Petey, the subtle magic. I'd love to read more by Ruby.
Lunch break reading.
