Absolutely terrible.
Absolutely terrible.
This was the funniest steamy read I have ever encountered. A great read.
June Book 13/25 #LitsyLove #bookspinbingo
I‘ve heard about this series for years and finally picked up the first book on vacation. It was fun, predictable, steamy, and silly. It was just what I was in the mood for on a beach vacation. I‘m sure I‘ll continue the series at some point. I loved the relationship between all of the Winston brothers. Jessica was a bit annoying, but the spark between her and Duane made up for that. Cletus was my favorite of the brothers.
This was cute and saucy, but I also found it a bit forgettable. Jessica has had the biggest crush on identical twin Beau forever. So when she and a friend see one of the twins out in the wild and Jessica is visibly in heat, naturally the guy teases and kisses her. But...but...DUN DUN DUN. It isn't the friendly Beau, but his surly twin Duane. Seriously, even identical twins have some tiny little tell of difference and if you're in love with one, ⬇️
First time to read Penny Reid‘s book. One of the Winston “beard brother”. This is fun to read! Super love the humor. Character development and plot is good!

The humor in this book is— I can‘t!! Hahahahaha

Mistaken identity causes a lot of confusion for Jessica James.
One of the many free amazon books I have picked up over the years (also, included in my audible membership). While I didn't love this book as a whole, I certainly loved different parts of it. I'm excited to continue on in the series!
Also, my #bookspin book for this month. Me? Finishing my #bookspin book on the 3rd of the month? Who is this girl? #bookspinbingo
@TheAromaofBooks
I LOVE her quirky writing, interesting words, fun characters, and I LOVE the way her characters minds ramble. I felt like these were people I would totally like to hang with. Not to mention I mean the cover art how unique is that ?!?
I picked up the audiobook for this one for the southern accents and it is definitely not a disappointment on that aspect. I am loving the accents, actually! #Hoopla #audiobook
My first Penny Reid. I‘ve seen the unique covers for the Winston Brothers series and always wanted to try it out. I thought it was funny and romantic. Nothing new, could have been shorter, but overall a success!
#PopSugar2020 A book with a pun in the title
I‘m trying out TRUTH OR BEARD, which would‘ve been my #BookSpin if I were a formal participant and not a roguish weirdo. The 3-chapter test was inconclusive. It was too cheesy, then it made me laugh a bunch, then the male lead put me off, then it maybe had promise again? I dunno. We‘ll see how I feel after Chapter Four.
I‘m continuing my legacy as a rogue* #BookSpin participant. Last month I filled two lines on my #BookSpinBingo card. Here‘s hoping I can do the same with this new spread.
* I never formally join anything with a giveaway component, or where I might feel pressured to ignore the Must-Reads I set for myself every month. I know; I‘m a weirdo, this is meant to be a LOW-pressure thing; yada yada.
Reading Envy Podcast Episode184: Theme Night at Book Club with Kala (@readerthenblogger)
Kala returns and this time she just started a new book club, so we chat about that before moving on to other reads we've experienced lately. A little romance, a little comedy, a little history, a little reading in translation.

Penny Reid writes interlinking romance series and this one made for a fun audiobook. It ends with an interview with the author talking about how she self-publishes because regular publishers always want her to dumb down her women, and she knows her readers want smarter characters and scenarios than that. It is a romance with one of the many Winston brothers, but there is more going on. ⤵️
I really did enjoy this book. Although I got distracted by another, I did end up coming back to this one and really liked how the story came together.
A fun, cheesy hate-to-love/friends-to-lovers kind of romance. #wintergames #merryreaders #tbrread
I‘m somewhere between a pick and a so-so on this one. I liked the writing, which was smart and funny. The story seemed a little cheesy for me though, even for a romance book. #romantsy
#TheCoverDrewMeIn
For real though... definetly looked up the whole series because of the cover. They read like dual pov adult romance × Katie McGarry's Thunder Road series. Me likes!
Jessica has known twins Beau and Duane Winston most of her life, and she's always had a crush on Beau. When she returns after college, her #MyFavoriteMistake moment is when she accidentally falls for Duane. She's not sure it's going to work out, though, because her sense of #Wanderlust is strong and she wasn't planning on staying. #LilithJuly #LetsTravelJuly

My plans for the long holiday weekend — books, tea, sleep, and enjoying my back patio! Oh, and getting my steps in for the #bookfitnesschallenge, of course! 😄
My hands are still a little sore from all the brickwork we did on the patio, so I chose small paperbacks and my Kindle. On the Kindle, I have the tagged book, MIDDLEGAME by Seanan McGuire, and DREAD NATION by Justina Ireland. 😍
This book was nice for a brainless listen, but great literature it is not. However, for escapism reading it works. I might even listen to the next one on my next road trip.

How many times will this audiobook make me roll my eyes. It‘s passed one hand of fingers so far.
🙄😁🙄
Not bad romance but very cliched.
So I have done something I rarely do and used all My Hoopla credits for the month at once.
Josh and I are heading to Indy tomorrow. It‘s at minimum a 4 hour drive. I didnt choose any book josh might like because he will sleep most of the trip.
I believe all of these will fit some reading challenge prompt. I have a friends recommended book, one from my TBR, one for #Booked2019, and two that just look fun.
Any of you listened to any of these?
I have realized I‘m very finicky about romances. When I like them, I really like them. But it‘s easy to find things I don‘t like.
Hands got fisted in hair THREE TIMES in this one. Why oh why can we not use a different word than fist?? How about grasp? Entangle? Entwine? Grab? ANYTHING ELSE? #howjessreadsin2019
I was really wanting a good romance, but this one? Ugh. A misogynistic mashup of genres, unless this picks up fast, it‘s DNF time. #womendonotneedtopretendtobeweaktokeepaman #wth #areallalphamencreeps
This is fine. I had it hanging around on my nook so decided to see if it could help get me out of my reading slump. Plus I like the kitschy cover. Duane and Jessica are cute enough together but a) this romance was written in alternating 1st person POV and it wasn‘t working so well for me and b) there were about four too many tropes in the plot.
So it was an OK story, but I‘m not exactly rushing to immediately buy and read the rest of the series.
Just like in her Knitting in the City series, Reid turns tropes and stereotypes on their heads throughout Duane and Jessica‘s story. And the result is a sweet, satisfying, and hilarious series of misadventures and endearing moments. I read this one, beginning to end, in a day. And now I‘m making room in my budget to buy the rest of the series because I am absolutely, head over heels, in love with the Winston Brothers!
Just finished the last bit of this reread while waiting for the kids to fall asleep. I‘ve been reading it on my kindle for a couple weeks in bits and pieces, so I hesitate to claim it as a finished book for #24in48 @24in48
Free ebook! 🎉 I've been wanting to check out this series and it looks like the stars have aligned. 😁
I enjoyed the Rugby series that the author co-authored with L. H. Cosway but this wasn‘t for me at all:
Bearded hillbilly grease monkeys, middle/high school drama (seriously, there is a scene with Truth or Dare and skinny dipping) and a lot of sexual *teasing* w/o a satisfactory payoff... just killed this as a romance or a comedy, much less a rom-com.
This was a really cute, light read! Perfect for a Sunday afternoon!
#septemberdanes prompt today is #rocketbrothers.
I thought of these brothers, Penny Reid's Winston Brothers. They love each other fiercely, they love their women fiercely and they might have rocket fuel in their cars. 😁🚀⛽
@Cinfhen @Kalalalatja
I fell in love with Duane Winston on page one. By the end of the chapter, I was in love with all the Winston Brothers. I have a thing for dudes with beards, so this book was right up my alley. I also love romances set in small towns. This #romantsy had a feisty heroine, witty banner and southern charm. Very excited to read more of this series.
Super excited! Rereading the Winston Brothers series since the new book is coming out soon!!
❤️ this series!
My husband (right) and his brother (left) aren‘t twins like Duane and Beau Winston (protagonists in this book) but people sometimes have a hard time telling them apart especially if they both have hats on. 😂 This was taken after they brewed one of their beers.
Anyways, I read Truth or Beard on the suggestion of @AmandaL The story was good, made me laugh, the ending though I can‘t decide if it dragged on or ended abruptly. #romantsy
So... I haven't been on for two months, but I used that time to read A LOT. I've finish 30 books. I finally read Penny Reid's Winston Brothers Series. I read a bunch of crafting, gardening and lifestyle books, and I listened to some great audiobooks. 😊
I wish I hadn't had to finish this for a buddy read on GR. Ugh.
I love the Winston brothers and the covers for these books!
Finished this over the weekend... in the beginning, it was addicting like After by Anna Todd was for me, but it was also exasperating too. I love the Winston brothers and their relationship, the thought nuggets about growing up with a shitty patent, but kind of hate the actual writing. Anyone else read this one? Am I the only one who felt like this?
