It took a Pandemic lockdown, but I have finally finished this book I borrowed from the curriculum lab a semester ago... and I LOVED IT. This lockdown is helping me get through my TBR pile, especially with professional development-ish books that I can put in to the work day. 🎉🎉 ➡️➡️Any other book recommendations similar to this author that would be good for an elementary/ high school librarian or Public librarian??⬅️⬅️
The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller is absolutely fantastic and has given me pages of handwritten notes of ideas and strategies to help inspire students to become lifelong readers. I highly recommend this one and will definitely read it again and again!
#teachersoflitsy just a little back-to-school reading. I finished the tagged book a few days ago. Miller is singing to the choir with that one. Anyone else prepping to go back to class?
Going to adopt ideas from this book into my high school classroom next year. Free reading during class, with vocabulary and grammar moved to homework. 20 minutes 2x a week.
I haven‘t read the tagged book, but I need a book whisperer! I am in such a prolonged and severe reading slump, that if it weren‘t for audiobooks, I would‘ve read nothing this month! I‘ve already adjusted my Goodreads challenge goal because I was so far behind schedule; I‘m still behind — just not as much.😞

I'm finding this fascinating. I'm going to flip my classroom and follow some of the advice in this treasure. Highly recommend this.
I read this looking for anything that I could use with the after school kids I work with at the library. It's an interesting book, but there's not much that would work in my particular program. I would love to be a 6th grader in the author's reading class!
I had to finish the last line...so powerful and so true
Truer words have never been spoken!
This was a fairly quick listen and good inspiration for some things I know and want to do better in my own classroom. There are a few things I don‘t agree with completely and some aspects of her method seemed a bit vague, but overall I really enjoyed it. It was also the perfect timing as I get ready for a new school year.

The Book Whisperer is one of those books that was amazing. After I read it I debated my career path to become a reading specialist or librarian. It is one of those eye-opening books where a teacher(avid reader) has her 6th grade students read 40 books a year for independent reading instead of busywork. It was a fascinating, powerful read I'd love to gush about.
So when my hubby got home from work I excitedly told him about the awesome date I had today (yes, I could have worded it better but it was funny to see the look on his face- see previous posts for explanation).
When I told him about the 2 new books I purchased, he pointedly looked at the coffee table and said -REALLY? 🙄
Doesn‘t everyone‘s coffee table look like this?! 🤷♀️
Sigh... nothin to do but toast myself with a vodka peach tea and enjoy 😂
#ReadingResolutions Day 16: This is definitely one of my #BookishPetPeeve(s). Whoever is asking this question is not familiar with Umberto Eco‘s antilibrary, as they miss the point entirely. #Jess7 - Tagged book is one of the most important, inspiring and enlightening professional development text for teachers, persuading them to be active readers to engage their students in the classroom.
#ReadingResolutions Day 31: My #MayStats is fairly dismal, compared to previous months, but I suppose seven adult novels ain‘t all that bad. 😍🧚🏼♀️📚 Tagged book is one of the best professional development texts on reading I have read, and I booktalk this one regularly with our teacher-trainees.
Sometimes being a middle school intensive reading teacher is the pits. No one ever chooses your class- they get stuck with it because of low scores and are bitter bc they rather be taking a fun elective. But once in a blue moon you get a great day like today- took the kiddos on a field trip to Dave & Busters where one student won me this mermaid and then another left this sweet note on my desk at the end of the day. Hang in there fellow teachers!
“Books are the plane, the train, and the road. They are the destination and the journey. They are home.” Anna Quindlen I ❤️ both this quote and this book!
Ok, so it‘s going to be more the Book Scribble Insider but hey, beggars can‘t be choosers - right? Are y‘all ready @Hehaney @inwhichHeikereadsharder @EllieDottie ??? I have my book ready to start on November 1. P.S. I sent an email because I got my zip code wrong. Oops!
Leveled reading serves a purpose, but should not be used to label our kids. Free choice is also a way to grow as a reader. #teachersoflitsy #librariansoflitsy

Here's my pile with an occupation in the title. The only one I've already read is The Book Whisperer. Which other one is a must read?
The students are back today. I don't care if I'm the Spanish teacher, I'm going to make reading for pleasure part of my class this year. Standards be damned. They can fire me. Frankly, love of reading is IMO the single most important thing I can give them.

📚 #manga is my go-to genre
📚 During the school year I read in the morning, on my lunch break and right before I go to bed. On vacation/weekends I read all day long.
📚 I read several books at a time.
📚 I don't really plan my reading.
📚 I buy more books than I should.
📚 I don't use the library enough.
this was the precious scene in my classroom Friday morning. we got cozy (pjs optional!) and listened to our special middle school reading buddies read some of our favorite stories to us. it was a great way to wrap up Read Across America week! #raisingreaders #teachersoflitsy #ReadAcrossAmerica
"Through reading, we can witness all that is noble, beautiful, or horrifying about other human beings."
I am currently in a big reading slump 😞 Usually a juicy book or a good romance novel can get me out of it...but I'm not finding anything helpful right now! So I'm asking the Litsy community - any recommendation? 😊😊
Rainy day + an inspiring read make for a great Sunday. I'll be ready to get back to work this week!
If only every teacher could set up a classroom that installs such a love of reading!
Our middle school has asked me for help in setting up an independent reading program for grades 6-8, so I am brushing up a bit with this gem. Have I mentioned lately how much I love my job?
It's probably kind of M.E. Escher-y to post a book about reading on an app about reading, but I'm a high school teacher and my students just don't read and so I'm reading this because I want to learn how to make them better readers because reading is one of the most critical skills in the world. But of course all of you know that.
Loved this! A great perspective on "teaching" the love of reading. There are several things I will be trying in my classroom this year.
starting this. trying to get psyched about back to school...
This pretty much sums up why I became a teacher and why I struggle with it. Excited to incorporate more independent reading in my high school classes next year again.
Have any of you teachers had success with this? I've read the first chapter and love the premise, but am scared to try a new approach!
I am a reader, a flashlight-under-the-covers, carries-a-book-everywhere-I-go, don't-look-at-my-Amazon-bill reader.
