pickThis book was a sweeping tale of Paris and her history. It was made human by the characters that were part of the story. Worth the read!
Continuing my Paris reading, alternating between the classic Baedeker‘s Paris travel guide, and the novel Paris, a saga spanning the years 1261 through 1968.

This saga brings life to Paris from the 1200‘s to the 1800‘s through the eyes of 6 families. The story is compelling and so is the history.
It reminds me of Ken‘s Follet‘s Kingsbridge Trilogy, beginning with The Pillars of the Earth 👇

*** I also just saw the movie 🎥 Eiffel. It is a French movie and has subtitles. It‘s about the building of the Eiffel tower and has a (I believe fictional) love story entwined.

I feel like getting lost in a historical Parisian story today. 🇫🇷☕️
Not #bookrelated but I am so heartbroken by today‘s fire at Notre Dame and I am sure there are other #littens that can relate. Paris is my favorite place in the world and never could have imagined that this epic monument wouldn‘t be there forever. I am heartened by the fact that part of the structure is intact and am sure they will rebuild to some extent but still devastating that 850 years of history is gone. 😭
so-soA multigenerational saga that takes readers on a journey through thousands of years of Parisian history as experienced through the lives of several families. I got kind of bored by the end of this 800-page novel. 3/5 stars

bailedI really wanted to love this book. The cover is beautiful, it's been on my TBR for a few years, and I love epic historical fiction, but I started it 3 months ago and I'm only at about 350 pages out of 805. It's boring and hard to follow because it jumps around in time and there are too many characters to keep track of. What a disappointment.
I think it's finally time to read this #chunkster. 800ish pages of small print 😬. Makes me glad I picked up another of his books - New York - for Kindle the other day when it was 2.99.

Truly an epic story. I love intergenerational, spanning centuries type of novels.
Feeling very accomplished after listening to the 36 hour audiobook! Although I think I will read the other two books I have by this author (New York and London) in print!!
I‘m in the home stretch- 95% through! I‘m so proud of sticking with this 36+ hour audiobook- it‘s an epic story.
I finished half of this a few years ago; it‘s time to start anew. Besides, as Audrey Hepburn observed, “Paris is always a good idea.” 😊💗🌷💗

pickExcellent historical fiction. Took me a bit to get into the story, but once I did was entranced. It felt like I got to know the city so well -- the people and the neighborhoods. I have a trip to Paris coming up in a few weeks and this was a perfect book to read before I leave.
Down for two months after foot surgery. Good thing I have a full bookshelf of tbr‘s and a kindle full too. Which one to start with is the problem. Challenging myself to read every book in the bookcase before I am on my feet again.
Went to an antique mall and a bookstore in Cannery Row yesterday. I managed to find a record of one of my all time favorite artists, Artie Shaw, and 2 books! The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and Paris by Edward Rutherfurd (not pictured). This is my favorite way to spend the weekend!

My shelves have been organized and dusted. Multiple cups of hot tea have been drank. My mother has been by to claim multiple books and the rest are loaded up in my car. Yet.... they are still full. 🤔 My coffee table/beside tables/ kitchen table are empty though. Mostly these books are unread. 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
@MrBook and I are entertaining tonight! I've cooked up a fantastic Irish feast. But first, appetizers! 😋 Dill, sea salt, and olive oil Triscuits, with extra sharp New York cheddar cheese, and genoa salami wedges. Yum!

pickI loved this book. I generally like historical fiction but often find them to get slow at some point. This one didn't get slow at all, rather it was kind of hard to put down. #litsyatozchallenge

bailedThis was my book club pick for the month of September. Needless to say, I bailed at page 400. The book has 828 pages and too many one dimensional stereotypical characters. All the voices sound the same. The writing was dry at best. For those who know nothing about Paris maybe you'll enjoy it. If you already have significant background on Paris, I say skip it. #dnf

Aahhhh, what mine eyes first rest upon as I enter my humble abode. Nothing like books as proper décor to please the soul. My heart always flutters and imbues my mind with pleasure.
so-soIf this had been only 400 pages, I would give it a 'like'. But 800 pages of back & forth between families AND between eras was too much. I'm not sure why Rutherfurd decided not to write it chronologically.
I finally passed the halfway point in this 800-page novel!
