Hopefully I can stick to my #ThingsInCommon plan better this week. 🤞🏻
Currently reading from my TBR pile ….
A sis-mance that starts slow then unravels like the movie “The Usual Suspects” meets “Thelma and Louise”. Has some on-the-edge-of-your-seat moments, but not quite my thing in the end.
A enjoyable historical fiction read with twists and turns. Well written and fast moving, it was a quick read. It‘s not a favorite, I have read others of the same historical time period I prefer, but still glad I read it.
I loved this book. I walked away and wanted a friendship like the main characters. The plot was really interesting. The first half was a little slow but the second half made up for that by being incredible. The characters were incredible. I would totally recommend for anyone who loves historical fiction and best friends!!
Mom: You got to the sad part!
Me: IT'S ALL THE SAD PART, MOM. 😭💙

This is a story about two women during WWII-one a pilot and one a spy. But ultimately it‘s about friendship, bravery, loyalty and courage.

Still not on time but I finally completed this month‘s #yabuddyread I really thought this historical spy story was interesting but I wasn‘t a big fan of the writing style which made this more of a chore to read. Still I liked it but didn‘t love it.
Who has read this one? I‘m having trouble getting into it, but it could be because I‘m feeling bad 😓 maybe I‘m still shook from The Push…
I just posted the #YABUDDYREAD discussion questions with spoiler tags so please see my page or the book page for questions.
Wein does a good job here of picking a specific perspective on WWII that we don‘t get too often, making her characters come to life, and gracefully navigating that line of how devastating does it need to be to tell the story faithfully, and how redemptive does it need to be for the sake of the story.

An example of why I love reading historical fiction—always learning something new. I had no clue about this so had to look it up. Definitely want to do some more reading about it. #YABuddyRead
I‘m a sucker for a good WWII book with strong women characters and that‘s exactly what this is. Though I did get annoyed some with Maddie.

I gave up on this book a couple of times, but I kept coming back to it. It was harder to follow because I read short pieces at a time. The second half pulled me in and picked up. I am glad I stuck with it.

@wideeyedreader and I went to our library book sale this morning. This is the first one they‘ve had since everything shut down. I think I did pretty well 😉 #bookhaul
“But I have told the truth. Isn't that ironic? They sent me because I am so good at telling lies. But I have told the truth.”

I confess I‘m not a big fan of war books or movies. It‘s not something I tend to read. It took me a minute to get into this book but when I did it was awesome. It‘s definitely worth it.
I just moved and currently have no internet. The upside to having no wifi? More time to focus on reading. This book was a Christmas gift so I moved it up on my ever-growing TBR.

I didn‘t like this book for about 60 pages, and then I got interested. I snorted and cried and by the time I got to Part Two, the pages couldn‘t go fast enough and I caught myself reading ahead. A WWII story unlike any I‘ve read. #bookspin
Thanks so much for the lovely #bookmail surprise this morning @Caroline2 ! The cover is so striking on this one isn‘t it? I‘m very much looking forward to reading it.
Love the bookmarks too, and I know my husband will have his eye on those too when he comes home from work later... he‘s not allowed they‘re MINE!
I‘ll reply to your email soon too.... 😘
Maybe it‘s just me and my feelings, but I had a hard time connecting with these characters. In reading the author‘s notes at the end, it seems like she worked hard to create a story that was centered around things she was interested in like female pilots and spies. Even though it‘s historical fiction not fact, it just seemed like too many fantastical events happened to give the story any plausibility, and that‘s important to me in this genre.
I am a coward.
Interesting start!

Four books that are filled with strong women & courageous main characters who are spies & resistance fighters during WWII. I‘ve read the bottom three & the tagged book has been on my #TBR list for a while. I finally got the audiobook thinking I might get to it sooner. 📚📚📚😬📚📚📚📚
