Thanks for all the well wishes yesterday! I hurt my hand at work, but luckily it‘s only bruised, not broken.

On a road trip, I‘d like to have someone who can make me smile, but also is resourceful and clever. So Mark Watney it is!

#SundayFunday Have a great day and remember to tag me!

2.75 - 3 ✨

FINALLYYYYYYY! Took me almost a year. Half the book was a fantastic read. Then I found it to rely heavily on science which I‘m fine with but it was too much information at once. I needed to take some breaks in. Then I bit the bullet and finished it. Absolute sarcastically hilarious book would recommend but should have some interest in the science aspects.

TheAromaofBooks Great progress!!! 1mo
CloakNQuill Now that I‘ve had time to process it was more the ramblings of what he had to do next followed by ramblings of if his plans went well or not. 1mo

I can‘t believe I‘m going to say this, but just watch the movie. It‘s a fair adaptation, and it has Matt Damon—the dry recitations of science stuff sound way better coming out of that face.

I‘m not saying it‘s necessarily a bad book, just way overhyped.

Maybe it‘s because I went backwards—starting with Project Hail Mary, then Artemis, now The Martian, but I was a tad underwhelmed. The Martian reads like a first novel. There are some pretty clunky passages, and a bit too much focus on characters we see once or twice then disappear. I would have enjoyed it more if Weir had tightened his focus. Still a good read, but Project Hail Mary is essentially a re-envisioning, and it is far superior.

What a great book! Mark Watney is such a complex, funny and real character. I felt like I was on Mars with him for this adventure. Andy Weir is now an auto buy author for me.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ • This book reminded me that I know nothing about space and I know nothing about science. I devoured it, despite the spacey science. (I did skim over a lot of the spacey science, won‘t lie.)

I really enjoyed this! I think having seen the film before reading this helped me visualize what was going on. It‘s a little heavier on technical jargon than I can normally comprehend, but it didn‘t detract from my enjoyment of it. So glad I finally got around to reading this one! #NewYearWhoDis Also a #roll100 title for January. @monalyisha @lou.reads.a.lot @PuddleJumper

This book is more of a motivation for us aspiring astronauts. Being in this field the book had a lot of scientific elements explained in a neat way for every reader to understand without any difficulty . I'm just thinking what if they made the movie with two parts explaining the book neatly . This book explains a fictional test of human endurance which may occur in space travel...

‘Tis the gift giving season! 🎁

1. I love when people gift me their favorite books. When people give me books that speak to their hearts, I feel very loved. ❤️
2. I have given so many copies of this book. It‘s so funny and kind of sneaky sci fi.
3. I absolutely would. I‘d want a first edition of a collection of fairy tales. Andersen or Grimm or Perrault.

★★★★★

“If the oxygenator breaks down, I‘ll suffocate. If the water reclaimer breaks down, I‘ll die of thirst. If the Habitat breaches, I‘ll just kind of explode. If none of those things happen, I‘ll eventually run out of food and starve to death.
I‘m screwed.”

A book I just couldn‘t put down. It has the very rare combination of a good, original story, interestingly real characters and a fascinating technical accuracy.

Tried an audiobook reread, but it didn't work out for me. Enjoyed the book, but didn't finding it suitable for a reread since much of the fun was in seeing how he figured things out. Also didn't care for the narrator's style.

Unpopular opinion time! I think this book is overrated. Sorry guys! I do think the detail is impressive, but not being a science person my eyes glazed over in most of the super technical sections. I didn‘t actually like Mark. He‘s kind of a chauvinist tool. Having a woman as the captain of the Mars crew didn‘t help to dampen the sexism throughout. Perhaps my never-ending love for Matt Damon will make the film more enjoyable for me.

RamsFan1963 I agree with you. I like the movie but I bailed on the book. 1y

I really enjoyed this movie and so far, I think they did a great job of condensing a lot of technical info into something relatable. Unfortunately, I'm getting lost in the technicalities here. I just picked this back up but after 3 pages, I'm struggling again. 😫 I feel like I could understand high school French better than computer jargon.

Bookgirl I just read his Project Hail Mary and it was the same. So. Much. Skimming. 1y

Very enjoyable. I did at times feel like my autistic brother was describing his most recent obsession to me in way more detail than I wanted. However, as with my brother, I patiently sat through it and nodded as if I cared, knowing that something better would be coming down the pipeline soon. Loved the conversational writing style and now I'm stoked to watch the movie.

#CuriousCovers - Orange: This is what I wrote on Goodreads while reading this book in 2015...
Okay, this is how it went:
- I'm in SUPER Cheer Mode. He better survive.
- Goodness, I'm pulling my hair out.
- Pheew!
- Potatoes...need to learn 100 recipes!
- You gotta be kidding me?
- Never say never.
- What the ****!
- I give up. He's full of hope. I'm full of despair.
- Cry Me a River🎶(or any song about some river or maybe Wade in the Water).
👇🏽

Nute - Good grief!
- Will there ever be relief?
- Pray, dude! You need Jesus!!!
- OMG!

Time to see the movie! Oh yeah, if I'm ever in a dismally bleak situation and some crazy power can be bestowed upon a fictional character to come to life...well, you know who gets my VIP pass....especially if the ingenue of botany can bring the light of day!
